I made this as a spin off thread from the College/University thread and the Grad School Thread

I wanted it to be a place for people to share information concerning various standard exams.

For the Highschoolers I know SAT and ACT are on the top of your lists

and for the older people I know there's a whole host of entrance and certification exams

I figure I just list as many as I can think of
  • GRE
  • GMAT
  • LSAT
  • MCAT
  • Int'l Baccaleaureate
  • Series 7 (stock traders license)
  • Bar exam
  • CPA exam
  • Medical License Exam
  • Architect
  • Psychologist/Psychiatrist
  • etc.
I figured I should start if off.

What are your experiences with the GRE, GMAT, and LSAT?  I want to be a Business student but I know I'd be a damn good lawyer (I have all the traits for it and I did debate in HS and some college debate too).

I heard the GRE is popular but falling out of favor for professional degrees. Any truth to that?

Also you said you have a year maybe 3 semesters left. How about you talk to some of your favorite or professor you respect the most and see where they believe you would fit in best. Base on you knowledge in class, test work, and your views on topics in class discussions

Thats the problem...I'm a transfer student so I don't have too many close professors.

Just purchase http://magoosh.com/  and call it a day
I'll investigate.

Didnt you transfer last fall?
I did. I didnt forge close bonds with most of my professors. In 8 classes for the year only 1 have I had extensive conversation with.

He is a business professor so I believe he would be biased towards business.

Hmmmm yes and no. It was known it my college(business) that I was getting my Master in Food Science. Majority of the professors would give me advice based on my future goals.

I say go talk to someone if not two professor even your chairman if you have to this summer(if you didn't head back home). Email is an option to.

Subscribe to some business magazines to help you narrow your decision since you are so close to graduating and unsure of your next chapter.

Bloomberg Businessweek  My favorite but a little sad I have not moved away from them.

The New Yorker

Harvard Business Review

Wall Street  Use to dislike reading this for my finance class

Never know what ideas or passions could come from daily reading, if you are not already doing so.

never take a prep course, waste of money

I disagree.
For the GMAT, I used Veritas Prep In-Person Instruction.
I got close to a 800 and without their strategies & shortcuts they taught, I wouldn't have been able to do that.

I'm flirting with the idea of taking the GMAT this year if I get into a good spot career wise. I have my Series 7, 24, and 66 though and am studying for the 4. Standardized tests have and always been ridiculous to me. At least with those ones I named its been more memorization than understanding of core concepts.

I would never take the GMAT without prep, seems like the hardest test i would ever take in my life.
