Madden 16 PS4 League - Preseason starts after first roster update

WAR ROOM: OAKLAND RAIDERS

image.jpg

For the Oakland Raiders, the Madden 15 League offered a glimmer of light in the midst of the Black Hole which was their collective fortune throughout the 5 full seasons...

A glimmer which was quickly eclipsed.

After @pmjordan23's departure from Oakland to Dallas following Season 1, a new competitor emerged with the aim of restoring prestige to the Silver and Black - @therealbennyc. While Ben had the skill set to compete with anyone in the league, making the playoffs in Season 3, his inability to remain composed when adversity arose would be his downfall. Just like their rival Chiefs, the Raiders would find themselves without an owner after Ben's rage-filled relinquishment of ownership early in Season 4...creating a vacancy which, this year, will be filled by, perhaps, the most entertaining brand of football the league has to offer...

Oakland, CA...welcome to "The MIXTAPE"!!!

It won't be such a drastic move for @just reason, as he relocated his Rams to nearby Los Angeles in last year's league, where he would come within one game of the Super Bowl in Season 3, and then win a league-best 14 games in Season 5...

But, he will have to prove that he can put all aspects of his game together when it matters most, after registering just one postseason win throughout last year's league.

Mixtapes eventually lead to albums...now in the AFC West, will Mike be able to produce the same quality when the pressure is on, and the bar raised?

:pimp: STRENGTHS :pimp:

image.jpg

The Mixtape offense started out last Madden as part St. Louis reincarnation of the old Run-N-Shoot, by which the Houston Oilers of the early 1990s put up points in bunches via the deep ball, as well as the college option and short screens mixed in to produce a must-see, quick strike attack. As the seasons progressed, Mike would assemble pieces which fit in seamlessly to his scheme (referred to Madden '16 Buffalo owner jayfiend jayfiend as 'Mixtape Bubblegum' and 'NCAA '97'), such as (then) QB Terrelle Pryor and WR Justin Hunter. He also proved to be versatile in his attack, becoming a more run-oriented team around the third season, which led him to the peak of his success thus far...

The Raider personnel, offensively, is tailor-made for an uptempo pace of action. Young QB Derek Carr gives Mike a good young centerpiece to build around, and rookie WR Amari Cooper figures to be his go-to guy on the deep routes. Oakland also adds former 49er wideout Michael Crabtree, former Patriot Kenbrell Thompkins, and speedy ex-Washington RB Roy Helu Jr to pair with starter LaTavius Murray. We'll see if Trent Richardson is worth even mentioning in due time...

On defense, second-year impact LB Khalil Mack will be avoided week in and week out, while Curtis Lofton and potential-laden Sio Moore round our what should be an impressive linebacking corps. Justin Tuck is the perfect mentor for 2015 second-round pick Mario Edwards, and DJ Hayden is the clear lead dog in the Raider secondary, where the ageless Charles Woodson also lurks at safety.

:smh: WEAKNESSES :smh:

image.jpg

Though very fun to watch, Mike's brand of Madden has a propensity to draw two red flags: a slew of turnovers and injuries to his quarterbacks. Terrelle Pryor was oft-injured in last year's Madden, leading Mike to call on the likes of Christian Ponder (who just happens to be Carr's backup), and even, at one point, his punter to fill in under center. Derek Carr also showed signs of vulnerability in Madden 15, so one must wonder if @just reason isn't just chasing his own tail here.

Also, will the Raider secondary be able to stop other high-powered attacks in the AFC? Beyond Hayden, moves to acquire more (and in Woodson's case, younger) talent may be mere inevitabilities. While Oakland's defensive line isn't bad, it also won't ever be confused with the one Mike had at his disposal last year with the Rams, arguably the best in the league.

:smokin TORETTO'S TAKE: 11-5 :smokin

image.jpg

Hear me out; I would NEVER pick Oakland to win 11 games in real life.

But, I feel like this is the perfect team for @just reason in Madden 16. The AFC as a whole will be a lot better, but not particularly in the West division, where, of course, six of the Raiders games will take place. He plays a few familiar opponents with new teams this season, such as @townbidness ('15 Cards, '16 Packers) and yvespo3 yvespo3 ('15 Bucs, '16 Vikings). IF...big if...Mike can play the disciplined football we saw towards the end of the Madden 15 League, I think he has a shot to steal the division from Denver this year. Gotta have a bold prediction somewhere, right? :nthat:

WAR ROOM: SAN DIEGO CHARGERS

image.jpg

Attribute whatever you'd like to the difficulties that the San Diego Chargers encountered in the Madden 15 League...

Just don't blame it on lack of effort.

@Forbes4Life got the most he could on a weekly basis out of his group in San Diego, making life tough at times for some of the more highly-touted competitors in the NT Madden League, including Season 1 World Champion Kansas City. However, inability to consistently sustain such levels of performance would be Evan and his Chargers' undoing, as he would have to settle for the role of playoff spoiler more often than he would like.

The lone holdover from the Madden 15 League's AFC West, Evan will have more weapons at his disposal to compete with a trio of new division rivals. Will this be enough lead to a resurgence for the Bolts, and their first playoff appearance in the NT Madden world?

:pimp: STRENGTHS :pimp:

image.jpg

Much like division foes Denver and Oakland, Evan's Chargers have a multitude of quality options on the offensive side of the ball. Veteran quarterback Philip Rivers, entering his 12th NFL season, has had a somewhat surprising comeback into the mix of the NFL's elite signal callers in recent seasons. To ensure that this rebirth continues, Evan must take advantage of the matchup a that WRs Keenan Allen, Stevie Johnson and Malcom Floyd can create. Antonio Gates proved that he isn't done either; he and LaDarius Green offer a fearsome combination at tight end, and 2015 first-round draft pick Melvin Gordon has his sights on being the best back in powder blue since that LT guy...

Cornerbacks Brandon Flowers and 2014 draftee Jason Verrett, along with longtime standout safety Eric Weddle, look to force turnovers as the nucleus of an impressive Charger secondary. Rookie LB Denzel Perryman was drafted in the second round to help bring added depth to a young core of 'backers which include Manti Te'o, Donald Butler and Melvin Ingram.

:smh: WEAKNESSES :smh:

image.jpg

In order for Evan to have success in Season 1, he will have to find a combination of players within his front seven that can generate pressure on quarterbacks, as well as stop some of the more effective running games that he will face. Failure to do so will allow the Mannings and the Carrs to chop the Charger back four down to size, and could also Jamaal Charles to take over games in divisional matchups.

Evan must also eliminate the propensity to commit late-game turnovers, which caused a considerable number of momentum swings for opposing teams in what were, otherwise, close games. In what looks to be a tough AFC conference, the slightest of mistakes could be the difference between playoff football and watching the postseason from the sideline.

:smokin TORETTO'S TAKE: 6-10 :smokin

image.jpg

With three of the previous Madden's World Champion owners on the slate, plus a two-time Super Bowl participant owner and a few other upper-tier players, Evan will have his work cut out for him early on in the Madden 16 League. Stealing a game or two could vault him into the discussion for a Wild Card spot in the AFC, but expectations for the Bolts should be a bit tempered in Season 1. Still, opposing players would not be advised to overlook the gritty @Forbes4Life, lest they run the risk of losing a game to an always tough competitor. :nthat:

Welp, that's it for the AFC West...on to the NFC South!

:pimp: NEXT: ATLANTA FALCONS :pimp:

WAR ROOM: ATLANTA FALCONS

image.jpg

In the Madden 15 League, the Atlanta Falcons did the near impossible: knock death down to second on the figurative list of "Life Guarantees", thanks in large part to going a perfect 5-for-5 in terms of losing seasons. A mix of Dave Chappelle Show and the 2008 Detroit Lions, the Falcons merged the worlds of futility and comedy like no other - before or after.

With that being said, not all hope is lost for liltank0206 liltank0206 , as he returns to the helm of Atlanta as one of two competitors who will will call the same city home in the NFC south. A breakout 7-9 Season (3) ranks as perhaps the most surprising turnaround in the league last Madden - they even raised a banner commemorating the team's efforts.

Now, can Dez, fueled by a motivation to be far more than the league's laughingstock, take the steps needed to enter true NT Madden relevance?

:pimp: STRENGTHS :pimp:

image.jpg

It's a bit difficult to imagine the Falcon offense getting even better than it has been on paper in the past few years, but Dez may have more options this year than ever. Matt Ryan, Julio Jones and Roddy White all return, but help has arrived in the form of ex-Peyton Manning safety blanket Jacob Tamme at tight end, as well as former Skins WR Leonard Hankerson to fill the void left by Harry Douglas, who is now in Tennessee. The running game now features three very capable ballcarriers: Devonta Freeman, Antone Smith, and 2015 third-round pick Tevin Coleman out of Indiana.

Their first-round draft selection, LB/DE Vic Beasley, plus DT Ra'Shede Hageman, LB Paul Worrilow and CB Desmond Trufant gives Dez a young core to build around on defense. The returns of safety William Moore and end Kroy Biermann, plus signings of LB Brooks Reed, former Bucs' end Adrian Clayborn and ex-Panther safety Charles Godfrey round out the overhaul for the defense, topped with second-round draft pick CB Jalen Collins.

:smh: WEAKNESSES :smh:

image.jpg

Short answer: Anyone with a pulse that plays Madden.

Long answer: Dez will have to severely cut down on the amount of interceptions thrown if he expects to sniff even mediocrity in the Madden 16 League. He has a tendency to telegraph passes, which gets him in trouble against good-to-great defensive players. Furthermore, Dez will have to develop more creativity and innovation with respects to his play selection; too many times, opponents knew exactly what was coming, and were able to render Dez's offensive approach ineffective.

Lack of discipline on defense, particularly against mobile quarterbacks such as Carolina's Cam Newton, also played a big part in the struggles of Dez and his Falcons last Madden. These mishaps also allowed opposing players to exploit Dez via read option, triple option, play action, screens, and practically anything under the sun which resembled an NFL play. If Dez can't eliminate these problematic tendencies from his game, there won't be much reason to believe that he will do any better than fourth in the NFC South, and picking 4th and higher in many NFL Drafts to come.

:smokin TORETTO'S TAKE: 3-13 :smokin

image.jpg

While liltank0206 liltank0206 is on the record saying he will make a concerted effort to improve his Madden game, old habits usually die hard. Beyond that, his Season 1 slate features the following: 12 games against Madden 15 League owners who made the playoffs at least once (including his first six and last four games), six games against players who have won at least one conference championship (again, including each of Atlanta's last 4 games), including two players who have won back-to-back conference titles in @tyonenine and returning division nemesis Retto Retto ; additionally, Season 5 World Champion owner @yungchris504 is now running operations in his native New Orleans.

Because of this, the Falcons' 50th season will be primarily spent trying not to get beat by 50 on a regular basis. A JPP-handful of games appears to be the ceiling for Dez and Company, and if he doesn't have a win by Week 12....well...below will be a shot of every Falcon fan on Earth...and maybe even Dez himself. :nthat:

WAR ROOM: CAROLINA PANTHERS

The great thing about the Madden 15 League is that a connection between competitors from all walks of life was forged just last year...

And on the gridiron throughout that previous year, I may have experienced every walk of Madden life, from one end of the spectrum to its polar opposite...personally.

There were Seasons 1 and 3, where extended absences during critical parts of each season played a part in me not making the playoffs...and then there were Seasons 2, 4, and 5, each of which resulting in appearances in the NFC Title Game, at worst.

I was (and still am) a part of the strongest alliance for most of this past Madden; conversely, there was a small period of time during which I wasn't.

Last go round, I won a lot of games in a lot of different ways: some of which, damn near improbable. In fact, 70 out of 87 games ended with my hand raised, as I demonstrated a level of mastery and poise rivaled by few...yet, in two consecutive Super Bowls, those two attributes were absent, and I found myself on the losing end of both.

Such dualty was Madden 15 in a nutshell for me: vacillating regularly between heel and face, respected and ridiculed, biggest winner and biggest loser...taking the idea of the mobile QB to heights unseen, yet being unable to break their accompanying age-old stigma.

Great...but not immortal...

Yet.

Because The Reaper is indeed back for the Madden 16 League: still with the [emoji]127760[/emoji]#System[emoji]127760[/emoji], still at the top of my game, and, despite the slate being clean, still with the image of that missed 55 yard field goal vividly in mind...

The mission statement is a simple one: Finish the job, and deliver, to the Carolinas, their first World Championship. And I will.

- Retto Retto

:pimp: STRENGTHS :pimp:

image.jpg

For Retto and his Carolina Panthers, who have not lost a home game since Season 2 of last year, virtually all of the pieces that were responsible for their stay among the Madden 15 League's elite return. Tight end and safety valve Greg Olsen figures to be his top, and most reliable, target in Madden 16. Carolina's depth at wideout will help immensely this year, with the return of Ted Ginn Jr and the second round drafting of rookie Devin Funchess to join second-year pros Kelvin Benjamin and Corey Brown. Ballcarriers Jonathan Stewart and Mike Tolbert will, once again, be key cogs for Retto's patented Triple Option, which, of course, will be orchestrated with ever-elusive quarterback Cam Newton, who became the '15 League's standard bearer by demonstrating masterful efficiency both running and throwing the football.

The Panthers' defense should be good-to-great on all three levels: the addition of CB Charles Tillman rounds out a secondary which already has emerging CBs Josh Norman and Bene Benwikere. Star Lotulelei and Kawaan Short return as one of the league's best pairs of DTs, and veteran end Charles Johnson can still wreak havoc. Finally, Luke Kuechly (the 'Peyton Manning of Defense') and Thomas Davis are the best duo at the linebacker position in football; they will be joined by first-round draftee Shaq Thompson to round out an unfairly speedy trio of 'backers.

:smh: WEAKNESSES :smh:

image.jpg

For all the improvements Carolina made during the offseason, there are some personnel questions that Retto will have to inevitably answer. How much will the loss of longtime Panther favorite DeAngelo Williams affect Retto's vaunted rushing attack? Jordan Todman is currently Stewart's backup, but whether he can become another threat for the Panthers remains to be seen. The loss of Greg Hardy leaves a potential dropoff at defensive end unless Kony Ealy can step up.

Also, with the majority of this year's league competitors placing an even bigger bullseye on Cam's back (or any other limb that they can possibly injure) now that they know he's not truly invincible, will the Panther offensive line be able to protect the franchise QB for an entire season (and playoffs)? Popular belief is that Retto may not be quite the same player if not for having the services of Newton; will this become more than mere speculation at any point in the Madden 16 League?

:smokin TORETTO'S TAKE: ?-? :smokin

While I won't supply bulletin board material at my own expense by posting a record prediction for you all to see (far smarter than that lol), I will offer this tidbit: no season in which I was able to play each of my games resulted in less than 13 wins. The other two seasons? I played 13 and won 9 in one (Season 1), and played 10 and won 9 in the other (Season 3). Don't shoot the messenger!

Yes, the Panther schedule now features two annual rematches of Super Bowl owners, as yungchris504 takes over the Saints this year. With much anticipated games against the likes of conference foes Seattle and Washington, as well as a potential trap game in Week 1 against the new-look Jaguars, Retto will have to get off to a fast start in Season 1. History just so happens to suggest that is exactly what will happen. :nthat:

Thought about giving you 4-12
And nah Vic was just trolling about taking the Panthers. Thank God, cause I would've been pissed if I was the Niners lol

Retto is going to go 8-8 in the first season with all them TEs on the field

What's alarmingly sad about all this is that you actually believe that

It's still you who'll be controlling them, so your skills, or lack thereof, will negate whatever potential your team has  Dez might put up a better fight than you

Facts

Dez's crowning achievement was injuring Cam for like two plays I think this past year
