Official Fallout 4 Thread - Release - 11.10.15

Level 21 right now.

I kept upgrading my charisma + lady killer and now my convo options are
pimp.gif

anytime a girl offers me a job, I can keep asking to raise the cap rewards by like 100.

All I am doing is dying. I must have gone the wrong way when I started cause I'm just running into things I don't have the ability to kill.

Don't want to spoil too much but let's just say the BoS aren't the only faction you can join

Well usually you can't join diametrically opposed factions. Like if you were down with Caeser's Legion in New Vegas you weren't going to be able to join up with the Brotherhood. Hell it took a whole lot of Speech Challenges to get NCR, Brotherhood and the Followers of the Apocalypse to work together.

I almost wish I had as little going on as I did when 3 and New Vegas came out.

If you're just starting or haven't located Shaun, don't read.

Who joined the Institute? I did, did I do the wrong thing?

It's all going to depend on how you want the game to play out. Even when I tried to go full evil, I never could find myself getting down with slaving, so at my worst I was a bad guy with a set of morals that had a line I wouldn't cross. I haven't gone after my kid, but I'm still trying to get a feel for the dynamics of the crafting and what not in this game.

My Red Rocket base is a fortress. I just can't figure out out to set land mines for the added protection.. Also, how the hell do I get enemies to attack my bases? Do I have to finish the Castle take back quest?

LVL 11 but stay getting owned by the super humans. Makes it hard for me to get the castle mission. This game is toooo addicting.

I wish there was a way to connect all your transfer boxes together

Diamond City is amazing

You can set up supply lines between all of your settlements actually. Open the workshop menu and find a settler you don't need, you can send him to another settlement to open a supply line, thus connecting your stored resources. I've opened supply lines between my favorite settlements, saves a lot of effort in building/crafting things because the resources are shared.

this game seems a bit watered down compared to nv or 3.

The lack of death claws is surprising thus far.

Only encountered 3 and it wasn't that hard to kill them compared to the older games.

meh.

.

this.

i actually run into deathclaws all the time, i run from them. maybe the game noticed you were housing them so scaled them back?

if im not mistaken you have to perk up the charisma tree to open supply lines.

i regularly send people from overpopulated settlements to empty ones.

you set mines the same way you throw grenades. careful, my first settlement which was attacked was oberlin station, and my mines actually ended up killing the settlers LOL

run away, sneak, go around them. it's part of the game.

as a tip to newbie fallout players,

use VATS more than you are.

free aiming is used for small spaces or when enemies are close on you (or in my case, free sniping)

don't use free aim a majority of the time....use VATS

Level 11 seems a little low for the castle mission, I def struggled a bit and I was level 16 when I did it.

Idk about anyone else, but it's always harder to get headshots with VATS for me.  Could be doing something wrong though.

VATS accuracy is determined by your (now) perception and the gun's ratings.

for scoped-ranged sniping, of course i do free aim.

for aiming IN combat? VATS for sure. I usually vats then take cover while my AP refreshes.

You can almost be on some red dead, shoot 4 enemies before they get a shot off with VATS, completely impossible to do with free aim.

I am definitely going to play through another time. With a different initial SPECIAL, I can have everything I want unlocked (except armorer) virtually from the start. By the time i'm level 25 again, I'll be 10 times as strong.

also, for newbies, you can level up by building things. It doesn't give you LITERAL experience fighting, but it does give you extra perks which may help.

I also strongly suggest everyone perk up the first level of endurance, the damage resistance tree...makes a TON of difference.

and while survivalist difficulty IS challenging, you get TONS of "starred" rare armor and weapons. EVERY legendary enemy ends up dropping something. I have a full inventory of starred weapons and armor, and a safe full of the ones i don't use or can't carry. It REALLY sucks that you can't break these items down to get their effects (a la skyrim) or even break them down for materials......

One thing i haven't been doing from past fallout games is selling a bunch of stuff. Too much hassle to carry the items to a specific shop, then sell for literally peanuts. I havent bought any armor or weapons; everything i get is starred legendary weapon.

something to consider.

the number on body parts in VATS is your accuracy percentage for that shot.

luck increases the chance of hitting (luck is really important in fallout games.)

the accuracy rating of the weapon you're using matters

crouching to shoot matters

now, they linked accuracy to perception, so i guess leveling perception matters, too.

Again, I suggest using VATS for close to mid-range combat. Any shots sneaking, or from far distances, or behind cover can be done with free aim. In fact, VATS at super long distances WITHOUT high accuracy/range rifles, is typically a bad idea, and you'll see single digit percentages for hits.

I only use VATS long range when there is debris between me and the target, OR they are hitting me regularly and i will die. VATS slows time down, and allows you to place shots much faster than you could using free aim.

you can also spam the VATS button when you're roaming around and it'll detect enemies for you by aiming at them. THEN you can decide to get closer and fight, or to avoid the enemy all together.

Take out the ghouls legs in VATS, makes them much easier to deal with. Your dog is a great help with them too.
