Are 'Mixed' People Black?...

Or do we just want them to be for whatever reason?

We know that there was once the antebellum south, "one drop rule" (if you had one drop of black blood you were "black"). So with that, the black community welcomed mixed people with open arms as one of our own. In 2015 no one (besides a racist) cares about a one drop rule. But I'd like to pose a question, do mixed people themselves consider themselves black?

We consider the the following people "black" even though they themselves have never came out and said they are:

Mariah Carey

Halle Berry (maybe she has, not sure)

The Rock

Vin Diesel

Alicia Keys (maybe she has, not sure)

Lenny Kravitz

many more

Example: The Rocks dad is as black is this NT background.  If you were to have a private convo with him what do you think he would say he is? Most likely Samoan (which is like me saying I'm American as my race).

(not that it makes a difference), alot of them have had more romances/marriages with white partners than with black partners, at least as a celebrity

Not that they should, nor should we require them too, but you never hear these "black" people speak on any current "black" community issues, and maybe they don't want to be bothered and have to deal with them because they are rich celebrities.

I am wondering if we should stop slapping the black label on mixed people if they don't consider themselves that to begin with.

I'm mixed and I embrace both of my ethnicities, I think it kinda boils down to your upbringing and who you surround yourself with, whether you're mixed or not(white dude with from the hood/black dude from a white neighborhood).

Nah fam, she one of us.

Man I aint even realize she wasnt a white women till this decade, during the chappelle show and all that, I always thought she was white.

I dont think that we should be labeling mixed people anything other than what they choose to identify with. Aint that easy tho. Like I would have never thought alicia keyes or lenny kravitz were mixed, just light skin black people.

What mixed person are white people really claiming. The way they talk about Obama you would swear he didn't have a white mother.

And them confused black mixed folks usually got verbally abused by their racist white grandmother as a kid. I know quite a few that experienced this

Hell my daughter got some mixed cousins that be getting called racist **** by their hick white grandmother. And these are 3 and a 4 year old girls.

That's what their dad gets laying up with that trash

I am half black and half white and I look at it like this...

If I am in Bloomingdales and being watched on camera, they are going to say watch that "black guy"

If I get stopped by the police, I will be identified as a "black" suspect

I'm black.

Pretty sure The Rock has said he's black publicly before. Think it was on IG recently.

One drop rule applies to everyone.

Rashida Jones is the only exception.

Nah fam, she one of us.

People are stupid. If you're mixed, you're mixed. People who like to "claim" others as one of theirs are just insecure that need something to make them feel better. When you were growing up and you saw that light skinned girl or boy, your black *** was talking all kinds of ish, but now everybodys grown up, and that light skinned boy or girl is now a good looking celebrity, you wanna "claim" them. FOH.

My brother and I are both mixed. Half black half Filipino. Looks wise, he looks more black and me the opposite. And growing up we'd always get the 'what side do identify more with' inquiry. The amount of times I wanted to slap someone in the face for asking that ignorant question is beyond me.

In kindergarten terms... One crayon is yellow, the other is blue, fuse them together and you have a green crayon. No matter how much you draw with it, that crayon will always draw in green, no more blue than yellow or visa versa. I'm Mixed. I'm Black. I'm Filipino.

Most Black and White people don't even know what the hell they are. When we refer to Asians, we always want to know the ethnicity, when we talk about Latins, we want to know their ethnicity, when we talk about Blacks and Whites, we just refer to them by the "race", Black, White... If you're mixed and you represent whatever you are, why is it always "I'm Black and Indian", or "I'm Black and White", "I'm White and Dominican"?
