So I got myself into an expensive pickle vol car problems

So a couple weeks back I got into a 50/50 accident with a cab driver. A guy from an autobody shop somehow showed up and told me he could take care of everything regarding the insurance company and repairs. I signed off the rights to dismantle the car to inspect damages and for the 75 dollar a day storage fee. He said the storage fee would apply if the car is already fixed and I don't come pick it up.

Now here I where it gets sticky. The adjuster for the other insurance (I have liability) said it was about 6000 dollars worth of damage (it's an 09 civic) the insurance company is probably paying for half which leaves me with 3 gs to pay but I am having a hard time to believe that it costs 6 thousand to fix a car that is worth 8 tops (the body shop is claiming it actually costs that much). Is there a way to dispute the body shops estimate?

Here is where the situation gets worse. I can't even get the car out and go elsewhere cuz I would than have to pay the massive storage and dismantling fees (about 3 gs). If any of you guys have experience dealing with shady places like this help a brother out.

adjuster claims 6k worth damages
body shop claims they actually need that much
can't go elsewhere cuz that would activate expensive storage fee
Asking if there is a way to dispute body shops estimate

Go find a body shop that does free towing.

Show them the pics forst and get the list of damages from the current body shop and go to ther body shops to get a rough estimate

Its possible. Repairs can cost more than a car but if its more than 75% insurance should total it

Call your insurance and ask their advice. Hopefully that body shop is in their network and they have some kind of pull.

A lot of body shops only deal with insurance company claims because they know they can always overcharge them, either that or they will ask you right away if u are paying with insurance or out of pocket and belive that estimate will be different.

You have a right to pick where you get the car fixed, as far as what you signed with the shop idk. I would read the fine print on that and see what exactly you agreed to, if they've already done dismantling work and you signed for them to do that you may be stuck. It is pretty shady so you could dispute it with your local attorney general or bbb. Also if this was done on a credit card you can dispute it with them.

A lot of these body shops are shady but they really just want to rack up charges for the insurance company to pay, they know they can't stay in business long charging that much to individuals. They probably didn't expect you to have to pay half their estimate, most people have a small deductible and the insurance pays the rest. All that said, if they're shady to begin with they may be able to rig it so they can still get half their estimate from insurance and let you pay a smaller amount and just tell them you paid half. They really have no incentive to let you slide but they may if they know they're in the wrong. I'd have an attorney general complaint in my back pocket just in case.

wait you got in an accident and an "autobody shop" just showed up?

His first mistake. First thing I pictured when I read this was the state farm commercial where the insurance agent just shows up lol, "Like a good neighbor and autobody shop is there!"

Can't be trusting people who just "show up" to the scene.

This sounds like something that happened to a guy I work with. The guys who showed up were actually running some sort of fraudulent business to get money from people they "help" out

Accident chasing is very illegal, cops write those dudes summons all the time...I'm sorry this learning experience happened to you fam....just pay up the 3GS and be done with it

:smh:

Don't let them work on your car, because then they'll put a mechanic's lien on it and you'll walk away with no car OP. Go get your **** and tell them to eat a **** on that storage fee or send it to collections. You can try to settle. But you need to carry some uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage. Up your coverages man.

:wow:

$75 per day. Dismantling fees

From my understanding the insurance company is suppose send someone to look at the car and ***** damages unless it's different for liability or you have a really bad insurance company. That car should have been totaled.

Probably pay half?? Sounds like you haven't even talked to them.

It's sad but sometimes is better to have full cover on a car, not only because it fully covers damages to your car, but also others property....wife totaled her car a few weeks ago....car was no more than 8months old....we paid nothing and were able to get into a new car within a few days.

The body shop probably added damage to the car in order to claim more money, even if they do fix your car they'll do a terrible patch up job as you can already see is shady...your insurance probably won't cover all the damage due to your policy, so you will come out of pocket regardless, just don't give that shop your money...get your car away from them.
