Who's the NBA's next megastar in around 5 years?

Russ is cut from the Kobe cloth.

If he learns how to win with others and messes around and gets a ring? 

That will be a scary thing for the rest of the league.

just imagine him and that thunder squad from this year in the East.....

If KD and Serge are there, I think he'll get one next season.

i agree, although the coach situation scares me. i don't see warriors being able to repeat. season was too magical. one of the best I've ever seen. gonna be hard with that target on their backs...

on an unrelated note I'm pretty sure I'm the only one REALLY wanting Russ to leave OKC and come home to LA... Lakers i mean... not the EA Sports Clippers.

Nope.  Not even close.  He will be one of if not THE best player in the league in 5 years.  But he doesn't have all the other things that make players megastars.  he doesn't have near the personality or the mainstream star quality to be a megastar.

I think people really underestimate the role that winning plays with "megastars." You can't be a megastar w/o winning. Then on top of winning, you have to have some type of charisma, flair, to your career that extends beyond your on court performance.

Based on that I feel like in 5 years maybe (but probably not) AD, Blake, Kyrie, are the only 3 to me who at the moment I could see contending, and having strong enough brands to maybe break into that air of megastar.

But I for sure hear you and would have to side with you.

I disagree. He's not exactly Tim Duncan. He finished third overall in all star voting, only trailing Steph and Bron. He has an increasing endorsement presence so you can't say his personality isn't dynamic enough. On top of it he plays an exciting brand of basketball. And the whole unibrow thing is a brand all on its own.

The measurables so far suggest he's well on his way to mega stardom.

What do you consider mega stardom though?

I hate to repeat myself from a previous post, but I really think this is a true indicator of a megastar:  A megastar is easily identifiable by your grandmother, who has never watched a basketball game in her life.

I don't think that statement will ever come close to applying to Anthony Davis.
 
I consider a megastar to be player who is a premiere branding presence with mainstream marketability and visibility...in addition to being a transcendent and exciting player on the floor. I don't see where Anthony Davis falls short in either category. He picked up more fan votes than a lot people you guys are naming in here. The only two guys who picked up more are the same two guys who just attracted the most viewers for Finals series in the post Jordan era.

if he's in that company...how is he not capable of achieving megastardom.

When it comes to "mainstream marketability and visibility" you need to think about that outside the basketball arena.  Do you really think non basketball fans are going to know who Anthony Davis is in a few years?  I don't.  If you do, then we will just agree to disagree.

I just do not think he has nearly the personality or the celebrity quality in him for him to achieve this level of megastardom.  In basketball circles, sure.  He is going to be great.  Outside of that, I just don't see it.
 
^exactly the point I have been trying to hammer home for the last couple of days. I used the example of grandma who has never watched a basketball game instead of you using mom....but the point remains. megastars are celebrities outside of the basketball arenas. I dont see Anthony Davis or anyone else catapulting into megastardom in the next 5 years. I just dont.

The next megastar is likely someone most of us has never heard of yet.
 
The next megastars are D'Angelo Russell , Jordan Clarkson and Julius Randle.
