Who's the NBA's next megastar in around 5 years?

If that's robbed, you could say Chris Paul was robbed with the 2008 NBA MVP.

Better stats then Kobe and near identical record.
Except Kobe had more points, reb, blks. But nice try.
Chris Paul had more assists, more steals, shot a higher field goal/ 3 point percentage and had a better PER.
so he had higher stats in all the categories that he is supposed to have higher stats in

except he couldnt even lead his team to 50 wins

and in hindsight he was a total joke in the playoffs while the lakers went to the finals

tbh it's not even close

That's not better across the board like Shaq had over Timmy
wink.gif

Hornets won 56 games though sea.

But Shaq wasnt better in every statistical category over Allen Iverson.

So how was Shaq robbed then? Are you saying Shaq was robbed for 2nd place in the 2001 NBA MVP voting?

in this debate stats are irrelevant especially in stephen currys case bc there is only one stat that he stands out in but the fact that he makes shooting threes so cool looking it adds to his marketability. whether you want to believe it or not the warriors could mess around and win another chip this year bc they are built to compete with any team in the league

bron

dirk

kobe

shaq

duncan

all clearly better than AI

wade

KG

KD

nash

kidd

all arguably better than AI

you could make an argument that he's not even top 10 post jordan
lets be clear at one point AI was a top 3 player in the nba behind shaq and duncan period especially around the time he went to the finals wasnt no one shining bright than AI with only once endorsement deal (reebok) he  became a global icon off of braids and heart...

I won't tolerate any AI or Cp3 slander. I just won't. AI more than deserved his MVP in 2001. 30ppg on the #1 team in the East. Made the finals, so y'all can't say he wasn't "deserving".

Cp3 probably should have got MVP in 2008, but Kobe was deserving too. And it came down to the last game of the season....where the lakers finished with 1 more game than the hornets. Lakers won 57, hornets won 56.

So giving it to Kobe who was older and didn't win one, plus him having 1 more win makes sense. I still think that was Cp3's award since he took a team with an over the hill Peja & Mo Pete in the starting lineup to the 2nd seed in the west...but Kobe was definitely deserving.

The only real robbery was LeBron getting ROY in 2004. Melo probably still salty to this day about that.

As far as who's next up:

Jabari
Wiggins
Ben Simmons

facts on the ai n cp3 slander two lil guys who lead some not so great teams to great heights and that 04 ROY could have went either way when its a close race like that i cant be mad either way bc its rarely a lock someone always pushes the envelope. and i havent seen enough of jabari to think he is up next even in the games he did play before injury he didnt even look like the best play on that team as for wiggins every night he looked like the superstar the t-wolves need him to be but its early to make the call on jabari

Jabari was starting to turn up. He averaged 13ppg on 50% shooting limited minutes. In his last few games before the injury...he was putting up like 15-20 points every other night. I think he was going to cruise to ROY. He was starting to figure it out. Wiggins found his shot after the new year.

And 03-04 was definitely Melo's award. He averaged more PPG, RPG, and shot a better FG% than Bron...while leading his team to the playoffs in the West.

If 21 & 6 as a rookie as the #1 option on a playoff team in the WEST isn't worthy of ROY...idk what is.

i think jabari wont shine til the greek freak leaves honestly and melo also had a much better team around him than lebron but all bron had to do was avg double digit scoring n he would have won it it was is to lose once he decided to enter the draft lol but melo did ball

Saying Allen Iverson didn't deserve the MVP or saying that he robbed someone else of the MVP is silly.

Of course others are going to be deserving of the MVP award for any given season. Pure semantics when you're trying to say someone else "didn't deserve it" to say that someone else did.

There is no way in hell that someone can average 31 a night on the Number 1 team in the east, 56 wins, and NOT deserve the MVP award.

I don't really care about the MVP argument. Saying Allen Iverson wasn't a megastar is the stupidest **** ever.
fact i seen when he went over to china like 02 or 03 they had chineses dudes wit fake tattoes and braids screamin his name if that aint megastar status i dnt know what is he defined a culture change across the world n mad lookin a certain way acceptable across the world

pound for pound iverson is the most overrated player to play in the nba...... stats, accolades when the east was trash and its always " he carried the sixers" that one lucky year he had in 01 but when you look deeper into his team you realize the team defensively carried him and was far from the "trash" that people say it was to make iverson look better then he was.

Eric Snow
AI
George Lynch
Ty Hill
Mutumbo

Bench:
Aaron McKie
Jumane Jones
Kevin Ollie
Raja Bell (fresh from a 10 day contract)
Matt Geiger
Todd McCullough

If that's your definition of somebody being carried by a team, idk what to tell you . Not trash, but not a worthy finals team. AI carried that squad...no if ands or buts. And handed your Lakers...who were in fact stacked, the only loss of their playoff runs.

AI an absolute legend. Never slander the God. Almost any of the star SG's that played alongside Shaq in the early 00's would have some hardware.

Yup defensively they were the best and dikembe had nearly double the amount of rebounds in the playoffs as the second top rebounder in the playoffs .., if dikembe ain't there to pick up all the boards no finals run ....
the narrative that ai carried them doesn't match up with reality.

Only team I can honestly say was carried was that 07 Cavs team. They had no business in the finals. Literally had nobody.

Y'all gotta be trolling.

Philly beat a 47 win VC led Toronto team, then a 52 win Milwuakee team with 3 All stars to get to the finals.

AI led a team to the finals who's 2nd option was Dikembe Mutombo. Good defensive team, but that team did not carry AI by any stretch.

Y'all Lakers fans delusional sometimes. I don't get it. Y'all won. Shaq and Kobe have AI his props, for some reason...y'all won't

The sixers were a top defense and a middle of the pack offense . Those bucks and Toronto teams were good teams but that's it . Not real contenders . You dudes just listen to what espn tells you and don't see things for what they actually are . It's funny . Iverson was so overrated .

My man, I lived thru the AI era. I was there. I remember when Brown made Eric Snow the full time starting PG. I printed out the dribble handoff play and single doubles they used to run off NBA.com back in the day. I remember AI playing thru the injuries. The 01 VCF. Him going 11/27. Etc etc. I was 11 or 12. I could fully comprehend.

I remember vividly. ESPN did not tell me that AI was amazing. I simply watched it. Nobody thought AI was overrated. Not even the Lakers own star players .

What you new dudes are doing is letting advanced stats and bball nerds + your Kove bias tell you in hindsight that AI was less impactful than he really was.

The irony

And your A.I. love is inflating his legend a bit. Every time some one brings up Iverson when you point out how he was one of the worst volume shooters of all time, the deflection goes into the heart argument and the cultural impact. Not that analytics are the end all be all but they do take some of the emotion out of the analysis.
