Dominican Republic to be 'Socially Cleaned' in today

Instead of having a real discussion on the law which has been recognized as a violation of human rights removing the citizenship of anyone (regardless of color or race) who cannot prove their residence before 1930, we have guys in this thread declaring they are special or have the superior traits of other races.

Ignorance at its finest. For the members in here that were trying to bring awareness to the law, don't let this derailment take away from the problems that two of the poorest nations in this hemisphere are facing.

Didn't want it turning into that black vs hispanic issue. Was more interested in the law but I'm most likely gonna the info I want here.

ksteezy ksteezy I wouldnt have entertained his comments.

I call it a infatuation because the topic seems to come up more often than not. We have tons of Carribean (Jamaican, Trini, etc) African and European black migrants in this country who look down on and refuse to be labeled AA but that's never discussed. Probably because we're in the country being looked down on in that aspect.

As far as Dominicans not repping African ancestry, don't let a handful of broken Spanish speaking Americans of Dominican descent dictate who we are or aren't. On the island, most know and respect who we are and where we come from and that's more than evident in our music, costumes, food and traditions.
Personally i have never liked the term african american or used to classify myself. I am of Jamaican descent but i was born here. i feel that the term african american is a tool people use to distance us from the concept of actually being american. I am an american who is black. Akon and dikembe mutombo are african american. And **** the racist bs out there. we are all people and we should just treat everybody with respect and be able to respect other peoples ethnic background. Lol as long as your not a racist or an ******* ive got love for you.

It's sad it has to come to this, but they have to protect their land.

Also its not that we don't want to embrace our roots. We just identify ourselfs as Latinos, Hispanic, and culture. That's what makes us special. We are many colors and blends.

You mean like Black people?

Since when can you not be Black while representing your latino/hispanic culture?

:nerd:

This. Most people are on the opposing side of the law, Dominican or not. That's what I want to understand more of and discuss. When I address DR in a negative light i'm speaking about the policy makers involved here. I'm not sure why the focus was changed with that 3rd party view. Addressing an attack on Dominicans that isn't even happening, and making sure to assert racial superiority at the same time. Get your life back together Steez.

Why do people continue to think accepting/admitting that you are Black/Afro-(insert race here) = saying you are African American?

:nerd:

ksteezy ksteezy

They are embarrassed to be black. No two ways about it. They can try to pull off all the mental acrobatics they want and try to deny it but it's what i comes too.

Out of all of Thomas Du Bois controversial theories the one thing he was 100% correct about is that black people worldwide will get no respect until Africa gets its act together. Hope that happens in my life so I can say "**** outta here you aint black, you are Dominican"

I'm tight I bought a ticket going down there in July! :smh: I can't refund either
Where you going tho b....you can still go and flourish in a resort..just stay away from the capital , either way my friends that live out there say its not as bad as it seems (riots/protest/crimes)

I'm n not going to the resort areas.

I'm going to an area called Sosoua

Wanted to see all the biddies out there.

I'm going to an area that's hardly tourist like. And I'm black.... Might end up getting dragged to Haiti for no reason

Is not THAT serious, have family there and friends who just came back...is no different than any other day in DR, people protest there all the time, the media as always has managed to completely over exaggerate the situation...you probably won't even notice what's happening bro.

I have to agree with Steezy it really aint dat serious.

No one is thinking about yall American ***** black white red or purple you are a tourist who wants to spend money there.

This has totally nothing to do with you being dark complexion... gringos stick out like sore thumbs in LATAM/Hispaniola nobody is gonna run the money off that us tourists put in there economy.

So don't worry the cheesy tour guides will still be trying to rip you off and the street/club hookers will still be slanging Poon Tang.

This issue isn't stopping business at all.

bet your family and friends aren't haitians who have to worry about deportation

"The repatriations are not going to be "a witch hunt," Interior Minister Ramon Fadul said. "It will be a gradual process, as it should be, without any sudden surprises."

But Dominican officials also warned that people should start carrying documents to prove they are legal residents, to avoid deportation in case authorities stop them."

if you cant see through this... you are blind.

Don't worry foreign black tourist, we cool wit you as long as you spend money on the island and have papers to prove you ain't the black folk we want to lynch and cleanse from our white Spanish paradise :rolleyes

Mannnnnn **** the DR.

No one should be going down there to spend a dime. Let their economy crash and go holla at the IMF, and try to seek into Puerto Rico for more "opportunities" (which already happens)

Real talk

You sound super bitter bro, **** a whole country because of the sad views of a couple of people ? you know a lot of Dominicans are actually protesting against this law and also look down on the racism going on right ? but no, **** the whole country :rolleyes

Africa can go back to being the Capital of the world and we still going to identify as Dominicans ! you must not know how proud we are of our heritage (Taino, Spanish, African)

biglou2n biglou2n

I understand being proud of Taino and African but what could you possibly be proud of what the Spanish conquistadors did?

You can't pass a law like this an claim it is only "a couple people"

If the DR has free elections, and the people allowed nationalist to take power, then it is on the entire country.

Maybe when Dominicans lives are destroyed, the entire country will see how disgusting this law is, and real change will take place

The protest gonna stop one day, and nothing will change.

I've never understood this especially when people rep their colonial ancestry hard...

Could you imagine Black folks with Irish surnames running around talking about "Black? I'm Irish/Irish-American!"

That part of your heritage wasn't consensual :smh:

According to your logic Germans should denounce their heritage because of what Hitler did and all their ancestors who followed him ? The Spanish conquest took place over four centuries ago, obviously what they did to the indigenous people was horrible but at the end of the day we're here now and we come from the blood of all the different people who occupied Hispaniola for the past four centuries so for me to say i don't come from Spanish decent would be a blatant lie. I would probably get more slack for not claiming Spanish blood than those who claim no African blood lol

Proud of heritage you dont have? Taino is a word used to negate african ancestry. The DR did not have indigenous people by the 19th century like South America had.

Doubt anyone will watch this since it is long but I will post it anyway

But here are some highlights

How Africans are depicted.

Those clowns actually have a Christopher Columbus statue

You know you can find Columbus's journal right. He'd be disgusted that it's even there. He had nothing good to say about the African heritage you are so ashamed of but claim to be proud of. And he had nothing good to say about the natives either. He dont claim yall but you worship him.

This is a statue of Francisco del Rosario Sánchez in the Domincan Republic. The equivalent of one of their "founding fathers". Dude was half black but lets see how you depict him

Now lets see a pic of how he actually looked.

That example makes no since because Germans were Germans before Hitler took power.

Do you see Black people in America claiming their slave masters (Irish, Welsh, English)?

Do you see Haitians claim the French?

Do you see Jamaicans calling themselves Englishmen?

The answer is no because why would anyone in their right mind rep the lineage of their oppressor.

Of course an entire country full of colonized people would give you flak for not claiming the white man.
