Donald Trump is running for president

the fact that trump is running for president and people actually think that way is insane.

he knows what he's doing, he's playing into peoples fears.

cmon you think all of trumps casinos and buildings are being cleaned and maintained by "americans" looking for jobs?

aint nobody got time to actually work their butts off, this is america, we hire people to do those jobs we dont want to.

ive listened to too many people complaining about how messicans be stealin jobs, yet they are discussing this ish on the clock with 5 dudes huddled around the mexican working.

theres alot of people commenting and throwing shade but i really doubt yall wanna be up at 4am picking watermelons in 100 degree heat.

Let me say three things about immigration that conservatives will like:

- As a matter of principle, a nation state is not obligated to let in every current and future immigrant because that nation state has had immigrants arrive in the past. States have the right to control who enters and the length of time that a visitor can stay.

- The US does not "need" immigrants. Employers want immigrants in order to depress wages in certain parts of the labor market. I also suspect that if people in public sector unions like teachers and state civil servants had to compete with immigrants, there would be much more opposition, from the left, to immigration.

- Opposition to immigration, especially the sort of immigration that results in permanent settlement, is not necessarily racist or xenophobic. Conversely, support for immigration does not automatically make a person tolerant and cosmopolitan. I sometimes do the though experiment where no one immigrates from Mexico or Central America or anywhere else in Latin America and at the same time, a million people from sub Saharan Africa or the Middle East are getting on boats and arriving in the US. I wonder if Jorge Ramos or La Raza or the Latino members of Congress would still be as idealistic and keep on declaring that "no human being is illegal."

Let me say three things that liberals will like:

- In the current context of US politics in is hard to see the discussion about immigration not having a racial tinge. The GOP is rapidly becoming a sort of white nationalist party. With whites making up a smaller share of the electorate, we see an increase in outrage and fear over immigration from Mexico. I have a feeling that if we had a million Europeans coming to our shores illegal and most of them would eventually become Republicans, the GOP and Tea Party would welcome them.

- Conservatives are incorrect when they blame all of the problems of wage stagnation on immigrants. Union busting, anti-union labor laws, conservative law courts and the inordinate role of the financial services sector on the real economy has done most of the damage to labor in the last three decades or so.

- Conservatives are the people who invited people to come here from Mexico illegally. The white guys who own construction companies, landscaping firms and hotels benefit the most from illegal labor. Conservatives want to have it both ways. They want cheap and servile labor but they want those same workers to serve as a racial underclass and political whipping boy class of people.

I am in favor of legalizing the people who are already here and letting them send for family members. Going forward, I am neutral towards immigration policy. Income inequality is the most pressing issue right now and if immigration can alleviate that, I am in favor of immigration. If immigration increases inequality, I am probably going to be opposed to it.

Immigration is an interesting political issue because it shows that this country is fractured economically and there really is no such thing as a unified national interest, on this issue on others.

I agree with everything besides the fact American workers are lazy. We actually work more than most 1st world nations.

I dunno, guys.

I feel like the whole "anchor baby" thing is just something that happens as a result of naturalization by birth, and that we just have to be OK with it. I feel like it's that simple, and I don't feel like there's anything wrong with it.

Having a kid in the US is a natural born citizen doesn't give you citizenship or make it so that you can't get deported. It just means that the kid is a citizen.

If that's not the case, then I don't know enough about the subject and have no problem doing a bit more research.

How is anyone in America gonna be mad about immigrants coming into the country? I feel like that notion is directly against American values.

Having an anchor baby in the U.S means free healthcare for you and the kid, and they just need to wait until the child is 18 to achieve citizenship, but if a Democrat is elected president, they may not need to wait any longer. Internationals are abusing the birthright citizenship policy. They can get welfare and free healthcare while the tax payer, you and I are paying for it. Believe it or not, this country is already over populated. The higher the population, the more the demand, the less resources, less jobs, more poverty, increase in prices and tax, etc. Just look at China and India, two countries that's supposed to be 1st world, never get into wars, but they have more than a billion people hindering their economy.

Also, someone gave data, and it said 8 million jobs are taken or seeking by illegal immigrants. I don't think that's fair at all. And when they do make money, they send it to Mexico, further depleting the U.S currency. Often times, they get paid by cash and do not need to pay income tax. They only pay sales tax.

Oh yea, wanted to add, billions upon billions each year are spent on illegal immigrants.

Unless you're a Native American I'm not trying to hear your complaints about immigration.

Also, if illegal immigrants are "stealing" jobs from you with limited knowledge of the dominant language and culture maybe it's time to consider what you're doing wrong.

I'm part Cherokee, as already mentioned in this thread before, but I do not use it for my arguments, I am defending American citizens.

Often times, in California, due to the massive amount illegal immigrants and other Spanish speaking populations, the demand for a Spanish speaking employee is high, so many times, other ethnic groups will get passed up and companies will hire people who can speak Spanish to help and provide service to many Spanish-only speaking customers, which are a lot. And this continues to increase because, now in California, there are more Hispanics than any other race, including whites: http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tan...-as-largest-racialethnic-group-in-california/ BTW I am also part Hispanic (Puerto Rican).

because it's easier to blame the people who dont have a voice.

people really think these illegals are running into interviews lol, naw usually the boss will ask an already employed illegal if he knows anyone looking for work.

this country is built on exploited immigrants to do their dirty work, from the chinese back in the day till the central americans of now.

everyone should speak American...

Not sure if you realize how ridiculous that post seems. But the official language in the United States, is officially; English. And the second most popular/common second language in the whole world is English. It's funny how illegal immigrants come here, but don't speak nor care to learn English but other citizens in other international countries try to learn it the best they can.

So basically due to the flooding of illegal immigrants breaking the law and sneaking into the U.S, having plentiful kids, abusing government assistance, because of this, Americans and Legal Immigrants are forced to learn Spanish, or are forced to move to another state? That's so ludicrous. Please reread your post brother.

I also wanted to share this: http://news.yahoo.com/la-immigration-group-center-girls-encounter-pope-080344753--politics.html it's cute and all with the kid and everything, but using kids is just sad. It's like using a kid to help rob a store.

^What is the official language of the U.S.? Not de jure nor de facto but the official language of the U.S.?

You fellas are arguing with a dude that's against illegal immigration but can sympathize with Trump employing undocumented residents due to high taxes brought on by democrats. :rolleyes

My only complaint is with certain immigrants who always ***** about how much they hate it here, and how americans are blah blah blah. Oh yeah? Kick rocks and head back to your country then. I have several friends who are immigrants and LOVE it here. I aint eem mad, usually the hardest working people I know,

Overall, this country's language policy is just fine, it is one of the few policy items that is pretty much fine. We have English serving as the dominant language of the 50 States. A single and shared language is crucial for keeping a diverse and continental nation intact. At the same time, local governments and the private sector make accommodations as are needed for the millions of people who either do not speak English or who are much more comfortable using a language other than English.

I also find it ironic that conservatives often times complain that automated phone systems start by saying "press one for English." Conservatives usually say that they are fond of state and local government and even better, the private sector.

It comes down to conservatives, in the name of States' Rights, looking the other way when States, more or less, re-enslave Black people under the color of law and order but apparently conservatives draw the line at California having bilingual ballots or the city of Glendale, CA using Armenian alongside English in its informational flyers. It is, apparently, okay for Bank of American to short sell the stocks that its financial advisers recommend to their clients all because of "freedom." The right wing draws the line, however, at Bank of America ATMs offering Tagalog and Korean options.

Like I said earlier, one can have doubts about immigration policy and not be a racist person. However, once people are here, we should be practical and humane towards them. If practically and humanity do not appeal to conservatives, you guys should still be okay with multilingual services out of deference to the free market and States' Rights.

I hate this response. So immigrants shouldn't exercise the first amendment due to their immigrant status. I'm sure there are things that you would disagree with in regards to this country but lucky for you, assuming you were born here, no one will tell you to go back to your country.

Many immigrants are happy with the opportunity to voice their opinion because they finally can. And you want to silence them? I would like to hear them out. Let them vent because they finally can. Speaking out against the current regime/gov in place is a new found freedom that some never had.

You literally want them to leave due to exercising a right that attracts people to this country. lolwut?

Illegal immigration isn't a top 5 concern for me. Republicans the main ones benefiting from them yet are trying to win over folks by slandering them

My family escaped a war-torn 3rd world country to come here for a better life.

We love it here in the US and the saying is really true for us: once you have the best, it's hard to go back. Granted, "going back" for us would mean returning to a corrupt Communist country, so we're not gonna take that L.

As a whole, living through poverty and having to claw and fight for a better life have influenced my political / life views.
