Did the wind just carry a message that said leave the country instead of trying to make it a better place?

That wind must be coming from the most un-American and unpatriotic place on the planet.

Yo watch a documentary on Robert Moses, and his influence on modern transportation..i know civil rights was obviously important, but that was percolating already..JFK
Had it in da plans.

Dont be so quick to dismiss an era that essentially laid da blueprint to modern times now.
Moses did a lot great things getting roads, highways, parks, etc. built in NY when it was most needed. He'd probably scoff at how long the freedom tower took to be built. Dude was among the best at the time and has his place in history but city planning is not the most important problem this country has to face and hey if you actually do feel that's more important then there's a bigger problem here.

I'd love for that kind of work ethic and efficiency to be brought back to NYC but all you're doing is highlighting the pros of that period, ignoring the cons. The 50s and 60s were fraught with racism and misogyny.

Your sentiment almost has a sexist bent to it the way you mention the man being the breadwinner which implies the women isn't and then you're wondering if she's even working or forced to be a stay at home mom.

Lots of problems with the era you're claiming was when America was great.

It implies da money was so good only 1 person HAD to work.

Try that in 2016 mean.giflaugh.gif
laugh.gif Really? So if the wife wants to work what then?

Life isn't about what you're willing to settle for. It's not I don't have to do _____ so I won't.

What happened to da pursuit of happiness ninja?

U acting like women didn't work though...

Da original mustang V6 was billed a secretary car..
laugh.gif No I'm not. So now we gonna pretend like women's rights weren't being fought for?

Like there wasn't a focus and reawakening for the women's movement in the 60s? Like there are some things a woman straight up couldn't do in the 50s compared to the 60s?

If you gonna look back to a period when America was "great" you seriously need to consider EVERYTHING about that time period. Not just the nice things you like.

At this point you sounding like city planning > civil rights.

Civil rights is a luxury to have when everybody got food on their plate. Think about it like this, we had time to do civil rights because economically we were doing so well..you think people cared about civil rights in da great depression when folks of all stripes were eating cat food & had no safety net?

1950s-1960s was not some golden era, especially for minorities. That cannot be brushed under the rug of downplayed in any way.

Conservatives has this weird fetish for the era that is kinda.

That was supposedly the time when America was great, but no one must mention that many groups were denied social justice, or that blacks where being terrorized by white Christians (well except when they want to bring up Dixiecrat).

Furthermore, taking race and social issues out of it, they completely forget that the GOP was ruled by moderates, taxes were high, unions were flourishing, and there were national discussions going on about national healthcare and subsidized higher education had been suggested already. And they want to forget the oil shock of that era to avoid talking about alternative energy today.

Across what pond was slavery still poppin? You know when you use the phrase "across the pond" you're referencing England right? You know England abolished slavery in 1833 right? 32 years prior to the Emancipation proclamation.

We talking about the 1950s and 60s b. Tyson and Jordan weren't born or was an infant then b.

You know where the expression originated right?

Excuse me if you used an UK expression to focus on the Islamic slave trade in AFRICA.

When somebody goes to Ghana from NY they don't say they're going across the pond.

Also saying hey slavery was still going around in the world in the 60s to make it sound like America was so much better off is filled with all types of fallacies with that comparison.

You really want to talk about Africa now? That's the bar of America being great you have and want to return to? Not as bad as the slavery in Africa? That's like a South African saying I want to go back to when SA was great and it's right in the middle of Apartheid but saying at least it aint a few years earlier when slavery was still legal indifferent.gif

C'mon son.

But this is the "great" American period you want to return to for the sake of better city planning when currently we don't even have to deal with any of that and haven't had to for 30 years.

You're settling for a moral relativism stance for the sake of a slightly better economy before the country heads in to one of it's most ****** up wars.

Something is not clickin here b.
