Nets had all that hype after the move and they're stuck in quicksand. Meanwhile Jason Kidd has built a good young talented squad in one year.

Lakers, right now, you can probably point to having more of a rebuild going than the Knicks with the young talent they have on their roster in Russell, Clarkson, and Randle.

Yeah Lakers at least have a young PG to build around, the Knicks are just throwing **** at the wall.

Do you think Phil pitched "full rebuild" to Melo? I honestly don't know what direction they're going in. I thought it was more "win now" more than anything? Melo isn't getting any younger, and honeslty, who knows how much time Phil will commit to seeing this whole thing through.

As it was pointed out, LAL/NYK both offered Monroe the max, but he chose the Bucks b/c they are fielding a more competitive squad. I'm sure Phil pitched Melo on FA... A class that was SUPPOSE to be highly ranked... Love stood with the Cavs, Gasol with the Grizz, Aldridge near a perfect situation with the Spurs.

Either way i'm sure Phil sold Melo on the chance of winning a ring, the approach the Knicks have taken this FA hasn't set them back at all. the old knicks Regime would have done what many of these small market teams have done and handed out huge contracts to average players.

It's a rebuild, Melo KNEW that a rebuild was going to happen, so he has to have patience in the process. The Knicks play in the East they are still two role players away from being a playoff team out there if healthy. Monrow signing maybe makes them a 5-6th seed rahter then a 7-8th. That's my point right there... whether they strikeout or not with one of these Big FA's either way they were gonna be far from championship Caliber.

Let the Knicks gather assets, and develop their own young players & suddenly they become real attractive to a REAL SUPERSTAR down the line.

If deandre signs with dallas what in the bloody hell are the clippers gonna do for their front court??? Blake and glenn davis?

I do not think Melo would have stayed if he knew he was going into a rebuild. But then again, he always knew he could get his money and force a trade if need be. He and Phil thought they were going to compete for the playoffs at least.

Here at PCOM for #Sixers rookie camp. Saw Hinkie in parking lot. He threw his arms in the air and shouted, "ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?"

good looks. that was the idea I had but wanted confirmation.

how long at TT been in the league and what did he do to equal 80+ mil? Same with Dame? Didn't dame come in in like '11?

See the "Derrick Rose Rule"

Basically, you have to make 2 All star games & 2 All NBA teams...or win an MVP before your rookie deal is up and your salary can be 30% of the cap.

Rose & Blake Griffin qualified for this. Ad and Dame haven't yet, but their teams are banking that they will.

I'm curious to see if they somehow don't meet that criteria...will the contract still be honored?

This was my assumption as well.

They got a nice signing w/ Afflalo, but I don't know how much of the Knicks not spending cash is due to them being turned down, or being smart.

Remains to be seen. No clue what Phil's vision is.

Crazy to have a rebuild with a 25+ppg scorer who just re-upped in his 30's. I wish I could have been a fly on the wall for those contract talks last summer. Something, to me, seems off about the whole thing. I have a strong feeling we'll see Melo waive his NTC and try to get out of NY by the deadline in Feb.

Well, call it what you want.

They don't want to hear how Great Kobe is or what he has done, no matter how true it is.

If the Lakers were recruiting me, I don't want to hear how Great Kobe is.
I want to hear how Great I am and how I can help going forward. It's about me. ME.

so without any knowledge or insight towards the meetings you've gathered up that the Lakers have gambled their entire process of signing players by saying " your gonna be Kobe's Sidekick" ? do you honestly in your heart think that's what L.A is telling guys??

L.A met with ONE perennial AS player this offseason... his other option was to play with the only other franchise that has won as much as the Lakers over the past two decades, has the best coach in the L, The same amount of Money, & a championship core.

FA will be more than willing to sign with the Lakers when their rookies show value ON THE COURT..

People always talk about how players want to play with lebron etc etc...

Let's take a look back at CLE prior to the decision... what players were knocking down the door to play in Cle when it didn't look like a lock to make the Finals

Washed up Ben Wallace?
Washed up Shaq?
Washed up Jaminson
Larry Hughes?
Mo Williams?

It doesn't matter how great an individual player is... players value money & winning the most...

i thought it was that you had to START 2 ASGs?

Yes

And whether they say it outright or it is implied by Kobe being there and looking down on them from across the table, YES.

This is my speculation, 100%

I'm sure the Knicks will get KD next summer so this is all irrelevant right?

Again, please show me people in the Knicks saying we're getting KD. The members in the Knicks thread are actually very well read on free agency this year and next year. No one is seriously stating we have a shot at KD.

NT likes to **** on the Knicks and the members out of habit or something.

And i truly believe that this team this year is in contention for a playoff spot if relatively healthy for most of the year... If they can get a Lopez (Which i hope they don't because i want L.A to get em) to go along wit Affaolo, Grant, & Darko Nowitski they can compete for a playoff spot this year.

My point being of course melo doesn't want to be stuck in the lottery every year, but i'm also sure he doesn't want the knicks forcing themselves in to cap hell for a team that can't realistically compete for atleast a trip to the finals... That was the first 7-8 years of NBA reality for Melo in the first place. Good teams around him, Never a great team to fight against the Kobe's, Duncans, etc etc.
