Gallinari, Arthur expected to sign with the Denver Nuggets this week

Using some of the financial flexibility they gained in the recent Ty Lawson trade, the Nuggets are expected this week to sign free agent forward Darrell Arthur to a new contract and extend the contract of forward Danilo Gallinari, according to NBA sources.

Gallinari, 26, had a resurgence in his game late last season after working his way back from two ACL surgeries.

He averaged 12.4 points and 3.7 rebounds per game last season. But after the All Star break those numbers ballooned to 18.6 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. He shot 44.3 percent from the field and 40.4 percent from 3-point range.

Arthur will return to the Nuggets for a third season. He has become one of the team's best defenders. He averaged 6.6 points and 2.9 rebounds per game last season in a reserve role.

04-05 was the pacers year. Definitely think they woulda beat Detroit in the ECF and could've possibly beat the Spurs in 7. That roster was deep and could defend with 3 stars.

-Prime JO averaging 24ppg
-Ron coming off his Dpoy and averaging 25 at the time of the fight
-Prime Stephen Jackson and Jamal Tinsley
-Reggie still productive.

04-05 is the lost year for the pacers.

Bobby Marks @BobbyMarks42
As @dempseypost reportes re: Arthur/Gallinari, Barton cap hold and Lawson trades gives DEN about $5m in room to operate.

On the Malice at the Palace though: I think they would've lost to Detroit but it would've been a great series anyway.

Stephen Jackson said on the Grantland Basketball Hour that Ron Artest, completely serious, asked him when they got back to the locker room, "Do you think we'll get in trouble?"

I think those Detroit and Indiana teams from that 03-06 were some of the most balanced rosters of the past decade.

Sometimes, we forget just how much of a two way force Jermaine Oneal was. Inefficient, but he could get it done at a high level on both ends. He'd be highly regarded today.

JO was incredible in his prime. I remember the year he was a free agent there were talks of him teaming up with Tim and the Spurs. I think Ben Wallace played a bigger part in that brawl than he gets credit for. He was the catalyst to everything.

J.R. Smith will meet with the Cleveland Cavaliers this week and is prepared for the possibility of making less than the $6.4 million player option he declined.

"That's always part of the gamble of opting out," Smith told the Northeast Ohio Media Group on Monday at the Four Seasons hotel in Las Vegas, where the NBA players' union held its summer meeting.

Smith remains unsigned and has kept a low profile in free agency.

Asked if he regretted his decision to decline his contract option, Smith said "Uh, I mean, yes and no.

"No because I've gotten offers that I wanted, I mean numbers that I wanted, it's just different situations," Smith said. "Right now it's just a matter of seeing what the Cavs come back to me with. Right now they give me the best opportunity to win."

It is believed Smith was seeking somewhere in the $7 million to $9 million range annually.

The Portland Trail Blazers, Philadelphia 76ers and Indiana Pacers are the only teams beyond the Cavaliers that can offer him a raise.

"I definitely want to come back to Cleveland," he said. "The coaches, the team, everything about the situation, it's perfect for me."

A $6 million contract for Smith would bring the Cavaliers a $16.5 million tax penalty.
