The semi finals of the Old Timers tournament will be on ESPN in 15 minutes

Have no clue who's playing but it'll give something to watch for the next several hours

High school is a 4 year project too. Should you not evaluate each year? If you're not on pace to meet your goals heading into the 3rd year, then what? Year 1 and 2 did not go as planned, don't see how that can be argued. Embiid's injury has already derailed year 3 and potentially the entire rebuild.

Like lying about injuries.

Right. His reputation around the league is cheeks.

I hope you aren't measuring their progress by wins and losses.

I need agree the Embiid injury hurts, a lot.

I don't see how Okafor was a stupid pick. You already knew one way or another that Embiid was struggling with injuries

It was a great pick regardless IMO

Too bad most of you were too young to witness that bad boy.
Guys like him and Larry, Magic, and MJ makes me wish I was born 10 years earlier.

  Thank goodness for YouTube.

For that matter it's way too early to say Ainge failed too when they still have 2 more unprotected Brooklyn picks coming. We're judging Philly's and Boston's rebuilding efforts before the process has even played out.

I can't say the same, players are much better today when they were back then.

Sure Larry/Magic/MJ/Dream were all great but the collective amount of talent is much higher now.

I'm cool with Bron/AD/Curry/KD/Russ/Harden/Blake over that time period.

The whole idea is to acquire talent thru the draft, right? Mcw, kj mcdaniels, embiid...how would you grade those moves?

Ainge was planning to consolidate picks to move up in the draft like hinkie. That plan failed. I'm judging these guys by their own standards, to date.

Boston is already doing better even though they goofed this past draft.

I'll hold my comments on Hinkie and this Sixers rebuild till after next years draft when they have 37 first round picks.

Sad thing is there really arent any great guards coming out of college next year that'll be top 3.

I agree with this but I still don't think the 76ers are as far off as most think. With how many top 3 picks they're getting, they're bound to pan out

Not to mention they have literally half the lottery in their name next year. They will settle on a rotation/core, coach, and hopefully turn it around

Boston goofed this past draft IMO, it's not too early to say that for me

the league might have more top end talent right now, but its extremely watered down. The fundamentals and baskeball IQ these days are awful. And I'll blame the fact that most of these kids go to college for one year and never develop. Sure there are the AD and KD's of the world. Those guys never needed much work so going for 1 year was fine. but there are a bunch of dudes who were 1 and done and never reached their ability. Staying 3-4 years would have helped them.

You can have the dudes you mentioned. I'll take MJ/Bird/Magic/Barkley/Hakeem/Isiah/CLyde/Ewing/Karl/Stockton/Pippen/Iverson.

The 80's and 90's basketball era was 2nd to none. Modern day hoops is awful. The only thing I give to this era is players are way more athletic overall.

There are plenty of dudes in the 90s that went to school for 4 years that never panned out. Joe smith, Michael olowokandi, Terrance Morris, Byron Houston, blah blah blah. Every one and done doesn't pan out just like every old dude out of college isn't an NBA player. College doesn't prepare you for the NBA, it prepares you for college basketball

of course. Those dudes who went to school for 4 years wouldn't have panned out regardless. But the guys who went for 1 year and flopped, there's always that what could have been in the back of my mind had they got some more season. The league is ridiculous these days. Every year, at least 10 kids leave who have no business leaving

Take a look at last years draft. Gordon, Randle, Levine, Young, Anderson. All of these guys could have used more college. I mean seriously, Aaron Gordon?!?!? Dude had no overall game, but because he;s extremely athletic, he;s a top 5 pick. No thoughts about working on a mid range jump shot. The NBA drafted him to just be athletic

Dude who didn't pan out even after 4 years never would have panned out to start.

I look at a kid like Gerald Green every time I see him play and just wonder what could have been had someone worked on him. A lot of it wouldn't pan out because of what's between the ears.

Yup! Crazy to see him. He got destroyed on the first play of the game, it was vicious

Damn, I can;t believe he's still playing hoops. I remember thinking the Warriors got a steal in the 2nd round with him. Did he get hurt? He averaged 9 pts and 4 rebs per game his first year and disappeared. That would have got him $6M per season right now.
