can someone pls tell me how Vin Baker made the 00 Olympic team??

I know a few bigs dropped out like Duncan and I think Webber, but weren't there others we could have sent over Baker?

Shaq already had his gold medal from 1996 (and was also on Dream Team II, in 1994), so he probably didn't want to do it. The other front court players from 1996 (Robinson, Hakeem, Malone, Barkley) were either retired or on the down slope of their careers. The only other big I can think of who was in his prime and would have participated was Mourning, but he'd done his "time" for Team USA, winning the World Championship in 1994 with Shaq.

Vin Baker was on the 99 FIBA Americas team, so I guess that gave him a foot hold of the Olympic roster spot following a down season in 99-00

Elton Brand was also on the 99 FIBA Americas team out of college, but maybe he was hurt the following summer.

But ya, looking at the 99-00 stats, big men talent was sparse thru out the league.....

Well damn. Don't know why I got that confused. I think that was just a transitional time for big men in the NBA. And they probably rewarded guys on the FIBA Americas team, which is what they used to do. Although, a bunch of the 2003 FIBA Americas team bailed on the program for the 2004 Olympics, which is a big reason why that turned into an utter disaster. Had to put together that garbage squad last minute.
