We blew our chance last year.
But besides that, I think CP3 is the top PG and Blake is in the top 3. The thing is they might might play against the 2nd best player in the nba who has a PG who many consider to be better than CP3. Or they might play the team that just washed everybody in the league last year and won the championship. Or a team they went 7 games against who got better in the off-season.
I've never been one to judge a player's legacy based on how their teams performed. Like, what if CP3 has an awful 2nd round but they advance. Is that better than balling out and not advancing? I usually judge a player on how he played in that series. Blake and the rest of the team choked after we went up 3-1. CP3 was the only one who didn't look scared but I won't argue if you wanna say he choked too.
I think the Houston series was the first series in the CP3 era that we lost where I fully expected to win. Especially after beating the Spurs and winning a game without Chris Paul in Houston. That was the first series I was truly disappointed in. Even the OKC series 2 seasons ago I didn't expect to win even though we had a good chance to.
If CP choked and the Clippers still made the conference finals, I'd be shocked. That would cement the fact that they have legit depth
If CP then choked again in the conference finals, then idk. That would be bad... it would depend on how it all shook out. If he played exceptional in the conference finals, and they advanced to the NBA finals, not many folks are going to remember him having a bad 2nd round
I would be shocked if CP never got out of the second round. For as good as I think CP and Blake are, I just can't imagine it. Now if they run into OKC or GSW in the 2nd round, of course that's a HUGE challenge. At the same time, they beat SAS last playoffs and have beaten GS in a 7 game series in the past. Of course GS has improved and won a title but the Clippers have improved as well, they haven't plateaued or gotten worse. Blake has made huge strides same with DJ. Now with their added depth...
Again it just goes back to how I view CP and Blake as players. If they are as good as I think they are, I would hope that they would somehow, someway, get to the conference finals. If ANYTHING, the second round should be CLOSELY contested, win or lose
