A lot, but that essentially certain thing that were said on the podcast like when Kobe said they "handled things face to face and not in the media" wasnt true and that they glazed over a lot of dofficult things that went on during that time.

Its a whole lot more than that, but its a great listen if you have an hr of free time.

Of course they glazed over a lot, it was like a 20 min podcast where they didn't even delve into anything. They were keeping it political for some reason

I'm sure Lowe said a lot of interesting things, but did he really say anything you didn't already know?

Tom Chambers and Kevin Johnson should be Hof'ers if Reggie Miller and Mitch Richmond are.

Those Suns teams routinely got to the WCF and Chambers was averaging like 24ppg for a 5 year stretch, while KJ was mister 20 & 10.

Always funny to me when people say Bird didn't play against athletes.

Like Mike, Pip, Dominique, Barkley, Clyde, Dr. J etc didn't play on the wings and mid post.

Not to mention the athletic bigs like Hakeem, D-Robinson, Ewing, Chambers etc. The only non athletes of the mid-80's to early 90s were the PGs.

Mitch Richmond will forever be the "well if Mitch got in then..."

Not saying Bird didn't play against athletes, but you named like 6 guys and did they all guard Bid? Not sure that they were all in their primes during the same era too

Yeah there's stories they go in depth about that I had never heard. They kind of work from Phil's book about that season, which I read but havent read im ages.

One story in particular was pretty cool. In 04, at the height of the Kobe Shaq thing howard beck sat down with phil and talked and all phil could talk about was the war in iraq which was interesting. Then he goes in to say how immature that lakers team was in comparison to the bulls and what.

They also allude to how close LAL was to really not winning a single champiionship during that run.

Yeah I think folks forget just how fragile a lot of title runs are

Those 6 guys were all in their athletic primes during Birds run. Dr J was coming to the end of his prime, but was still an athlete and won a chip in 83.

I'm not even mentioning guys like Michael Cooper or Sidney Moncrieff, James Worthy, Bobby Jones, Dennis Rodman, who were athletes that routinely checked Bird.

Absolutely. For starters people forget that the Lakers almost pulled a Clippers and almost lost to the 8th seed as a 1 in the first round. 67 wins and they were so close to bowing out in the first round. Then you have all the turmoil in 2001 and Kobe having to be hurt which essentially changed the course of that year, then obviously in 02' being so close to going down 3-1.

But those moments are what makes championships polarizing and exciting

Not to mention that, in 00, it took a big comeback, aided by an almost historically awful shooting quarter by Portland, for the Lakers to get to the Finals.

not to mention the crooked refs in 02. 01 was the only easy chip.

And even in 01' up until the end of the season when they got hot no one thought they were going to repeat. SAS was better than them in 2001. That postseason run was crazzyyy and did a lot to rewrite how that season went for them.

And just to be clear, I'm not trying to take anything away from the Lakers' early 2000s title run. 3 banners is 3 banners. But like Shoeking was saying, I think people need to better appreciate how hard it is to even win one title, let alone 3 in a row. The team has to be good, but has to have a lot of things break their way too.

Lot of revisionist history goin on in here.

Almost lost in round 1?

Blazers did choke gm 7, Lakers also beat them down in Port in that huge February matchup, then jumped them 3-1 before takin their foot off the gas. They hadn't learned how to win yet.

The next year, they had. And it showed.

And 02? If not for food poison, they win that series in 5. They blew Kings out in Sac gm 1. Also won in OT, in Sac game 7. Biggest games of the series, Kings get beat down both times.

They showed out while Kobe was dying tho.

They definitely almost lost in RD 1 in 2000. Anytime you have to go to a close out game to me that is almost losing. Then you factor in it came on the heels of blowing a 2-0 lead?

And they did not beat them down in that february matchup in portland. It was a 2 pt game with like a minute left.

Also, the lakers were getting waxed in games 3-4 in 02 against sac so im not sure they win game 2 even with a healthy kobe. They showed out when he was healthy too...

There's nothing revisionist about the 02 series with the Kings

how in the hell would the Lakers have won that series in 5 even if they had won game 2?

The Lakers got destroyed on their home floor in game 3 (the largest beat down in the series) and were a Vlade Divac idiotic tip out away from being up 3-1. In that same game, the Kings scored 40 points in the first quarter and led by 14 at half (should have been 17, the refs counted a Samaki Walker 3 at the buzzer which was after the horn)

17 free throws in game 6 for Shaq in their win...
