Official OVO x JB Thread

My God you guys are something else. No, I did not make it seem like there is a skill to buying shoes my man. People are blowing their tops that I said I'm trying to buy a pair of $4,000 shoes. To them that's outrageous. To collectors who are in that 1% of "super" collecting so to speak, it's normal. I was more or less showing that my lil $4,000 shoes fall short to many other collectors who got $$$. Then I was stressing the issue that it's hard to fathom spending that much on a pair of kicks if you aren't capable of doing it the same way I personally can't fathom spending $4,000,000 on a Lamborghini because I can't do it.
My comment wasn't towards you dropping 4000 on kicks my comment was towards all those dudes with Pes and whatnot and there is no skill to buying sneakers bill gates could not know two things about nike Adidas asics NB etc etc today and have the best collection tomorrow it's all money no skill needed

there are certain kicks that bill Gates himself couldn't obtain, it's not all about the money

no its definitely skill involved in it. Knowing what shop will drop which sneaker when etc.
That's not skill tho that's just acquiring information that is already out there skill is the difference between some dude on a street court saying ball is life and LeBron James

these dudes praise people like perfect pair and all he's doing is spending money and if ain't about the money then it ain't about nothing

everything involves skill if you break it down. You even got social skills which involves skill in talking to other people, so if you wanna say purchasing sneakers at retail is a skill then it's a skill

I don't want you to think that I'm disagreeing with you just because because I get at what your saying but I want you to explain to me how buying shoes at retail something anyone can easily do is a skill

I'm not praising nobody, all I know is there are certain kicks that bill Gates himself wouldn't be able to obtain. Og 85 black and golds ones are an example and there's a ton of other kicks that money wouldn't be able to buy, you would have to find them first

the thing is its not something anyone can easily do. On the Internet level you need programming skill to cop online for retail. In person you need a blend of knowledge and skill to determine the best way to purchase the sneakers you want at retail. Having knowledge on a release and implementing it the correct way to get the sneakers you desire is a skill. Also knowing when to spend your money on said sneakers is another skill, albeit not that serious. It's like the stock market but with less money involved. It takes skill and a lot of homework to determine which stock is a good investment worth which ones arent.

Are we still talking about spending habits? If you think it's bad here, go to the Yeezy thread where dudes spend k's regularly to cop his kicks on resale.

IMO does that give you a slight albeit small advantage over people who don't generally cop kicks on the regular sure it's that see that as a skill because all those people can look up the same information and just do what they see everyone else doing and be just as good as the next guy

This is accurate. For example, I wear a size 12. JustDons, Yeezy's, OVO's, I know not to enter a raffle for my size. Gotta go smaller because I have knowledge that stores most likely don't have a lot of 12's.

Without bragging, I ended up with 13 pairs of Chicago 1's, 7 pairs of Shattered Backboards, 15 pairs of Shadow 1's, 15 pairs of Fear 4's, etc. It honestly is a bit of skill to be able to acquire these shoes. Keep in mind I have ZERO connects with managers. It's all hustle and skill with me.

 at there being kicks that unlimited money couldn't buy. Gates, or any other multibillionaire, could certainly hunt down any pair they want and purchase them. Let's not be silly.

it's not always easy to get that information though, there's a reason I ended up with 6 pairs of these at box price while dudes struggled to get one. Not gonna front and say luck wasn't a factor but the skill definitely played a part.

not really man. All the recent crap dropping I agree money can buy, but there are some stuff that you can't even find it don't matter how much money you got

 its a nice change of pace from dudes complaining about resale and saying price will keep dropping to retail

I do think there is some skill involved, people skills as mentioned, however money trumps people skills! LOL. Bill would have a team of people finding them thangs for him. He might pay more because he's not in the loop so to speak, but he'd be able to get them.

I'm just trying to picture Bill Gates walking up to joe schmo super IG collector and saying I'll give you a billion dollars for that 1 of 1 shoe and the dude turning him down

If someone out there has it, and a buyer put out a standing offer $10 million on that pair...you're crazy to think that pair of shoes wouldn't find its way to them. I guess technically there are shoes maybe in the Nike corporate vault that he possibly might not be able to get. But realistically, $ can and will get you any pair. Regardless, collecting sneakers that release vs. samples is a totally different game. Not worth comparing the two, like airforce1king airforce1king said.

As for the skill debate - I think it's a matter of semantics. What you're calling skill, I'm calling effort. Going to various stores, entering raffles, etc. is all effort. That's not really a skill, in my definition. Playing basketball well is a skill. I don't care how long I practice, I will never have skills good enough for the NBA. But if anyone devotes enough time to buying shoes at retail, they can do it.

I wear a sz 12 and i scored OVOs and RO at retail, due to a unannounced drop without it i had no chance.

how many of those did you pay retail for and how many would you say were pairs won off of raffles

It wouldn't happen and it couldn't happen nobody's gonna keep cheap produced sneakers over 1 Billion smackers

Gonna make the trek to Chicago for a bears game next week; Where are these flight 23 locations? Google maps coming up empty.
