San Diego trip?

glad i found this thread, ill be there this weekend and was looking up places to visit besides the beach. lucha libre and stone brew have been on my list along with gaslamp

any recommendations on nicer restaurants to eat at?? lady friend wants to be fancy since we rarely get to go to sd

Bali Hai. One of the best views in the city, solid food. Oh, and get Mai Tais, they are legendary there.

Went to SD last weekend with my girl. Loved Gaslamp. Will be coming back again.

Fell in love with the town since I came so often for my last job. Such a different vibe than LA. Been looking for a job that would allow me to move

I don't know why I thought you lived in SD.

Go to Nine-Ten on Prospect Street in La Jolla for dinner. It's dressy casual and is the best food in San Diego period. Get there late afternoon and walk around La Jolla. Cool shops and great vibe. Walk down to the water and catch the sunset and back up to Nine-Ten for dinner. You will not be disappointed.

never been and don't really know anything about them but heard someone mention thad's and crave...

A great night out with your wife also would be go to Little Italy and have dinner at Juniper and Ivy and then after walk down the street a few blocks and have drinks and dessert at Kettner Exchange. That place is fantastic. It does get really crowded on the weekends, but worth it. Has this cool indoor outdoor upstairs bar and the vibe is perfect with your woman. Great view of the water and harbor as well from the second level bar.

Ballast Point Brewery if you like beer. Stone is cool, but I prefer BP. As for Stone, there's one in Liberty Station (point Loma) so you don't have to trek to North County.

If you're here before July 5th hit the county fair. Go to Chicken Charlie's. They were on the food network for their fried ribs. It's at the fair btw.

Go to:

--The Zoo
--Go to La Jolla and follow Nautilus st to the beach. Best kept secret in SD. TRUST ME!!! Best beach by far.
--Balboa Park
--Seaport Village
--Eat at Island Prime (make reservations and request a window seat for a romantic dinner)
--Viejas Casino

do you need a car to get around?

Yeah, that's going to make your trip a lot easier.

I was born/raised in SD and lived there most of my life. A lot of good suggestions so far. For beaches it's hard to go wrong. Mission beach is big wide beaches with a lot of college kids, tourists, and people doing a beach day from other parts of SD. Basically you're going to see a greater mix of people/races in Mission beach than a lot of other places. Pacific beach has great restaurants and night life, the beach itself is similar to mission beach. La Jolla has the nicest beaches in my opinion. La Jolla Shores is the most popular but my favorite is Wind n Sea. Coronado and Del Mar are really nice too, I just don't make it out to either of them much.

IB is cool but DO NOT go in the water and PB is straight.
Exactly what I was going to say. IB is nice to relax on the beach and walk around...But some folks warned me that the water quality there is bad.

PB and Oceanside is good!

I enjoyed my stay at Oceanside.

Ive been wanting to go back to see the Zoo and Seaworld, but my wife thinks there wouldn't be anything to do there =(

How about at night ?

Didn't want to make a new thread but I just came back from a small trip in San Diego.

Lolita's
Balboa park
Sunset cliff
Salk institute (if you love architecture)
Little Italy is ok
Old town was smooth
Coronado beach was smooth too

Smooth city, a lot of homeless people I was actually surprised. I Stayed near the downtown area and literally the few black people I saw were homeless which was sad to see.

From the little I saw I think SF is better than SD.

Also want to add if you're ever in Tucson Arizona it's worth the drive to SD. Very scenic and roughly 6- 6.5 hours

Tons of homeless in SD especially downtown

It's worse with homeless in St. Louis :smh: They Be lining the exits like Obamas motorcade coming thru.

I was shocked! No race thread or anything but I was very surprised to see that many homeless white people. Some of them looked young as well like late 20s early 30s. A lot of them have pets. It must be a combination of weather that brings them there but the cost of living makes them stay in their situation. Sad overall.

Great info guys. I'll be visiting in 2-3 weeks. Looking to do some hiking or something outdoors with a good view early in the morning. Is Torrey Pines worth it?

Also, can you recommend any bars, lounges, clubs that play hip hop? Want to stay away from edm.
