So with everything that has happened this past week and the growing racial tension growing in the US. What is everyones take on the confederate flag? I, like most people im sure, think the confederate flag is a symbol of america's dark past and the ripples that are still in effect today. I'm genuinely interested in hearing the other side though. Why keep the the confederate flag around? If not negative, what exactly does it represent to southerners?

Being from Florida, if I see that flag, I assume know you're a racists.

There's nothing to explain, you riding with the folks that wanted to keep slavery.

Growing up in SC i have seen it alot.

In high school there was always that good ol boy click....
visors....pickups......bass fishing shirts....etc.

and alot of those dudes were friends with black people but it was because they had to be.

Ive never met anyone who openly displays it that i wanted to ne friends with.

And in my opinion. ..anyone that is for it or embraces it wouldnt mind if the world we live in was like it was during slavery.

Nothing good has ever come from it.

If there was ever a time to take it down its now.

call me wrong, but as soon as I see that flag, the first thing that comes to my mind is racism.
This.

Mind-blowing how the south holds onto this flag that literally has pretty much nothing but negativity for every party involved attached to it.

It's the N word for white people in visual form.

Please elaborate
Well I see it like this. It was obviously the symbol for the pro-slavery South, basically represents viewing people of color as lesser than human. What's a word that we all know is used to degrade black people? The n word. The vast majority of people still clinging onto to it are white Southerners.

There was sum guy on cnn yesterday explaining why it should be up.

Dude said the civil war wasnt about slavery.

Im tryin to find it cuz its so crazy

I find it weird that those who idolize the flag also seem to be very patriotic, pro-America. But pretty much every thing the flag represents is the antithesis of the values this country are supposed to be built on.

Confederate flag = ISIS flag.

Saw this juxtaposition somewhere on the net and i wholeheartedly agree with it.

Yall think the world fittna end? Is jesus comming? What will be the mark of the beast? Flu shots?

Isnt everything thats happening pointing out ti wherr it days in the bible the world is gona end?

When I see it nothing really comes to mind.

To be honest. Can't pretend I grew up experiencing harsh racism or people waving that flag in face to try to prove a point. As much as I wanna ACT like I really been through it, I can't sit here and say it really means anything to me. Good or bad.

But of course everyone knows what it stood for in the past and that's bad blah blah

Yes I'm black

Imo if you fly that flag then you advocate slavery because confederates were fighting protect their plantations. I make sure to give a stiff middle finger to every hick flying it if and when I see them. I live jersey now but I've seen rednecks in PA and west MD flying that flag for whatever reason.

That's the thing...no one outright waves it in anyone's face to get a rise. It has everything to do with the history of the flag.

You don't need to experience racism directly to know that people that look just like you do are being treated differently for nothing other that fact that they look just like you.

Coming from a guy who grew up deep in the suburbs, who also never experienced blatant racism..except for by police.

Same as a nazi flag to me. It's just crazy how their supporters are some hypocrites.

I've seen the flag so much growing up in the south that it doesn't "bother" me but I immediately label you as at least prejudice
