Having a good defense is always what you want but recently Peyton, Brees, Eli, Warner have all got to the Super Bowl with an average to below average defense.

The defense just cant play overtly bad in the playoffs and good offense helps with that.

They were average to below average?

Seriously asking, I dont remember where they were ranked those years

Ranks in scoring defense

2006 Colts-23rd
2008 Cardinals-28th
2009 Saints-20th
2011 Giants-25th

The Colts D when we won the Superbowl reminds me a lot of our D now. Trash *** run D with a solid secondary.

Cant wait for the Luck God to **** boys up this year. This our year B

Except for the Giants, those scoring defenses numbers are skewed because of how great those teams offenses were.

Each of those teams had defenses that stepped up in the playoffs and still had great individual efforts as well. They were not below average in the playoffs.

Remember that Colts SB team? Their defense was HORRIBLE. Then all of a sudden, they look like a top 5 defense once the playoffs start. The Giant had some great defensive lines. The Saint defense was certainly not as bad as it looked from what the stats tell you. Their defense was tough. The Cardinals may have had the weakest of that bunch, but what their offense did in the playoffs (Kurt, and Larry especially) was truly special. Probably the most succinct and efficient of that bunch during their SB run. Easily, actually.

Damn, those are pretty low.

I wonder if those units were high on turnover differantial to negate points/yards they have up.

Giants just seemed like they clicked at the right time with that devasting front line.

Saints seemed like they were a high takeaway team from what I remember but idk

Id buy the skewed angle if they were middle of the pack but the bottom half of the league skewed? No way

The 2010 Packers actually were ranked 2nd in scoring defense.

This is some revisionist history man, that Saints D was tough man. Darren Sharper and Harper had career years and the D was anchored by Vilma. Those stats are misleading as hell

Scoring defense is only one barometer. Red zone defense, turnover differential and paring down a bit -- QB pressures, are all more important indicators of a defense in today's NFL.

defense ranks based on what? yards allowed? or points?

either way, the playoffs runs that Eli AND his defense had were pretty solid

That whole 2006 season the NFC was trash.

Manning beat a Rex Grossman led bears team that won 13 games.

The Saints and Eagles were the only other team to win double digit games. (10 each)

What NFC being trash have to do with Peyton Manning teams winning the AFC

Exactly. Like I said, Mister will post stuff out of context like he can sneak one by, except this isn't the 80's Dolphins...Most of us remember these teams. Their turnover differential was one of the best in the league. They were very tough.

turnover differential i'd say is more important. leading indicator to success IMO.

unless you're AR12. still can't win even when the game is handed to him on a platter...4 times :smh:
