Mike Maccagnan, on 98.7, reiterates Bowles will make the QB call. Said he believes a HC should have the ability to determine who he wants

Kimberley A. Martin @KMart_LI
Maccagnan believes Geno has the physical ability to be a good NFL QB. But "it's a question of whether he can do that consistently" (98.7)

Nate Ulrich @NateUlrichABJ
#Browns HC Mike Pettine said he doesn't know which injury FB Malcolm Johnson suffered.

Mary Kay Cabot @MaryKayCabot
#browns dodged a bullet with billy winn's ankle injury. Pettine said doesn't appear to be serious. Not 6-8 week thing

Reuben Frank @RoobCSN
Brian Westbrook and LB Maxie Baughan just named to Eagles Hall of Fame before open practice at the Linc.

i agree that the NFC is top heavy, but the top 3 teams in the NFC > top 3 teams in the AFC

with that beint said, NFC >> AFC

Oh rly?

How are the Seahawks, Packers, and Cowboys better than the Pats, Broncos, and Colts?

I'll take GB and Seattle over any AFC team. Colts have no defense, Broncos O line is shot and NE made its last run.

AFC is, in my opinion, the deeper, more competitive league.

With that being said, I'd still take an NFC team to win the SB.

Jaguars don’t expect Justin Blackmon to play again

Posted by Michael David Smith on August 4, 2015, 12:54 PM EDT

Three years ago the Jaguars used the fifth overall pick in the NFL draft on receiver Justin Blackmon. Now the Jaguars think Blackmon’s career is over.

Jaguars General Manager David Caldwell said today that Blackmon, who has been suspended by the NFL for the last 21 months because of repeated failed drug tests, appears to have decided that he’s not willing to put in the work to get himself back on the field.

“I have not heard anything and I guess I harbor a little bit of hope but realistically I think when you’re away from the game for two-and-a-half years what you were once is not what you probably will be,” Caldwell said. “Your skills do erode and especially if you’re not staying in tip-top shape and you’re not in football shape. I don’t know to expect but I would say common sense would probably be if you haven’t played football in two-and-a-half years apparently that’s not a priority for you.”

That’s a shame. Blackmon has great, great talent. He was a two-time winner of the Biletnikoff Award for the best wide receiver in college football, and he was the first wide receiver ever to win the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year Award. He could have been something special in the NFL.

Instead, Blackmon will be a cautionary tale of a player whose great talent wasn’t enough to overcome his off-field problems.

I don't see Caldwell say specifically within that quote that bluntly 'He doesn't expect him to ever play again' just that when you're away from the game for 2.5 years 'what you were once is not what you probably will be' and that 'it's not a priority for him' but nothing that could actually warrant a headline, 'JAGUARS EXPECT JUSTIN BLACKMON TO EVER PLAY AGAIN' or the lede, 'Now, the Jaguars think Blackmon's career is over'

... or is that too Jacksonville-friendly of a take? Don't see where Michael David Smith or whatever triple-first-name is getting THAT, specifically.

GB has just as many if not more holes than NE. NE's only real hole is at secondary. Brady missing 4 weeks isn't enough to keep us out of the playoffs. SEA is the only team that's clearly top dog on paper

I remember last year when Josh Gordon came back and it seemed like the NFL was about to lift people's bans I picked up every criminal I could think of in fantasy  scooped up Justin Blackmon with the quickness

Blackmon failed another drug test during his suspension if I remember correctly which is why he was denied re-instatement

he is young enough to get it together and still have a productive NFL career

@AdamSchefter: Now this is a challenge: Melvin Gordon's mom, Carmen, won't wear her son's Chargers' jersey until he proves himself.

Blackmon was going to be it, all the physical tools but none of the mental.

Dude was a monster at OSU.

Blackmon, like gordon, has the luxury of still being pretty young. He has time to turn it around career wise if he gets his head straight. It`s been a shame seeing how he`s panned out so far after how dominant he was in college.

This and people have been saying that our run is over for the last 5 years . Given a relatively healthy season like last year,we should be right back in the thick of things for the SB chase. The secondary might be unproven but the front 7 is the deepest it`s been in over a decade...

TB took the 32nd ranked pass D to the SB in 2011,we don`t necessarily need a good secondary to get there. Winning once getting there is a different story  :smh:

Green Bay run defense last year overall: 119.9 yards per game allowed

But when you break it down a little bit:

Green Bay run defense, first 8 games: 153.3 yards per game allowed (dead last over that period, obviously)
Green Bay run defense, final 8 games: 86.4 yards per game allowed (No. 6 rush defense in the league the last 8 games)

When they moved Clay Matthews to the middle on traditional run downs, you saw how much that helped them, but it's true - they're taking their OLB and one of their best pass rushers and moving him away from the spot where he, as an individual, is perceived to have the most value. Yet, if moving him from the outside to the middle injected that much life into the team's run defense, I'd say his contributions and value may be greater than we had thought all along. Certainly a far distance from 'just a pass rusher', even though you can't have enough of those. They rid themselves of A.J. Hawk, Jamari Lattimore and Brad Jones this offseason too - addition by subtraction - and then added Jake Ryan in the fourth (thought they would take one earlier) whose getting some first-team reps, and then finally, they get B.J. Raji back, who is in a big 'prove it' year.

Pass defense finished 10th in the NFL, seventh in interceptions. Tramon Williams and Davon House gone, though, so we'll see. Without House, the defensive backfield lacks height. Although they drafted two secondary players in rounds one and two, Sam Shields still there of course, and so long as Micah Hyde/Casey Hayward both stay healthy and exhibit some sort of an upward trajectory then that shouldn't fall off that much. You could do a lot worse than Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and Morgan Burnett as a safety tandem.

The Packers special teams royally sucked last season but that stuff can change drastically from one year to the next - don't think the Packers have A TON of holes like some will say.

Texans' RB Arian Foster came up limping on pass play last night, never returned to practice and @taniaganguli reports Foster hurt his groin.

`Get wife pregnant again`

Bolo Phil`s work in the bedroom is enough to make Cromartie smile

My god...how does this dude get injured every time somebody breathes on him? He's the scariest dude in fantasy to pick up.
