Yeah teaching is great and all.

But if we are really talking about affecting young people lives, I could bring in the backup wide reciever from the Jaguars and have them mentor a kid for six sessions and it would go a lot further in shaping him than his teacher could.

You have could be an exceptional teacher but if the student isn't receptive, your importance is muted.

There's saying "When a student is ready, the teacher will appear" and believe it's mostly true.

Students don't always look at teacher as role model, teachers have to work to maybe get a little bit of credibility.

Bring in a professional athlete to talk and their word is gold to the majority of the students.

Instant credibility.

I know the other side will say professional athletes get paid to play a kids game, teachers shape the minds of the future leaders of America.

I know this partly true and that sounds great but as a practical matter, teaching is glorified babysitting 90 percent of the time, if you don't have class management they ain't learning *****.

You don't want your teacher being **** up, but short of that; parents, siblings, friends ,coaches or other adults who work with a students interests have a far greater impact on the students than a teacher does.

That's my viewpoint...I know some will see it differently.

Oh. My. Goodness.

I dont agree that atheletes are more important than teachers in general (Im not sure if MF said they were overall) but there's some valid points in here tbh

edit: I'll clarify that kids at a younger age can be more receptive to ppl of another profession to learn and get back on the right track

Skins, Boys, Colts, Steelers, 9ers, Raiders, Bears, Packers, Saints are the teams going the longest without helmet/logo change.

Am I missing anyone?

.

so Marqise Lee?

Yo kids are less receptive to their parents too than the one time they met Marqise Lee at an autograph signing but that doesn't make Marqise Lee more valuable in their lives.  Teaching takes time.

That's the only real reply I care to make to that absurd paragraph.

I bet there's like a bajillion more successful people in this world via education than there are professional athletes.

You don't become an astronaut because your favorite QB scored alot of touchdowns lol
Yes, but did an athlete visit their high school one time?

I met Troy Vincent in 1998 and it shaped me to get into the college financing business, I could be homeless without that chance encounter

If you don't mind me asking, did he give actual advice or did the meeting just change your life?

Not sure of the reason just yet but LG Logan Mankins was among those watching #Bucs practice from the sidelines today. Another new addition to the #Bucs bucket-hat brigade was S Major Wright.
