I'll be generous and say 5

Texans fans, how many wins do you get last year if Watt isn't there? I don't watch enough to make a proper assessment

Not a Texans fan but live in Houston so get to watch the team a lot. I'd say no more than 4-5 games w/o Watt.

NFL cannot be pleased with line of questioning wondering about lack of direct evidence in Report they paid $3 million to gather. #Brady

wells is cot damn crook

Berman is hitting both sides with a lot of pressure to settle. sounds like the NFL is getting hit a little harder.

That's two 'votes' from peeps who watch on a 4 - 5 game swing with and without Watt. Pretty large. Is there another player on the Texans that would swing the record that much? With a lot of teams Watt wouldn't come close to that impact, but with the Texans roster, he is the MVP of that team. Now in the future of that contract prevented them from signing someone of great importance, then you can revisit the debate

I don't watch enough Texans games to have a better opinion. I'm not knowledgable enough so I'll trust the guys who watch them every week

Believe whatever you hear type a guy. I understand chief...

QFT.

I would much rather take 2 or 3 of those players listed instead of 1 Watt
Is it that simple to look at it that way though? A lot of those guys are on rookie deals and were drafted by those teams

Exactly, now dudes just throwing out anything hoping it sticks

That's how good teams stay good. You don't tie all your money up on one player on your dline and therefor have bums on the rest of the line. And fwiw Avril and Bennett were on the list and neither are on their rookie deal or drafted by Seattle

fwiw which isn't much, Bennett was drafted by Seattle haha

Anyone have any idea on this passage?

Watt’s contract is structured such that the Texans will take a $21.969 million salary cap charge in 2015. While that number sounds absurd and it is certainly not going to help the Texans win a championship in 2015, it is a charge they absolutely must take for the long-term financial health of the team.

Because the Texans are overhauling their roster they have the ability to take a massive salary cap charge like that in the 2015 season. If they opt to take that charge, then the largest cap hit that Watt will have over the following four seasons is $13 million. That is a bargain basement price for a player of Watt’s caliber, especially with the rising salary cap. Having Watt at that cost will allow the Texans to extend Clowney and a quarterback of the future. It will allow them to proactively attack positions of need in free agency. It also gives them flexibility with Watt in the event his skills surprisingly decline or his career is set back by injury.

But if they fail to do so and decide to convert large portions of his salary in 2015 to prorated bonus money, they will lose all of that flexibility. This is a must for Houston. This flexibility and lower back end salary cap charges are why they signed him now and will pay him so much money over the next four seasons.

The team cannot throw that all away next year for a quick fix of the franchise or some other reason. Doing that will give the Texans essentially no benefit to signing the contract when they did. Houston will gain a competitive advantage by simply locking this contract up today and throwing away the key so they remove the temptations from touching it next season.

What does the Texans' record have to do with if Watt deserves the money he got?

Those two things aren't logically related. JJ impacts so many plays, it is ridiculous. QB is by far the most important position on a roster, and JJ's contract isn't preventing and won't prevent the Texans from eventually getting a QB.

The Texans record can't be used as an argument against Watt when we're rolling out no arm Schaub and Fitz

Form opinions and make statements while lacking knowledge or information

Coming from a dude who just took 2 dudes opinion(one a clown) and said I'll take it and believe as fact.

A 2 win team a year before with Watt. Last year though, he magically added an additional 5 wins by himself.
