Report: Packers “did not confirm interest” in Reggie Wayne

Posted by Darin Gantt on August 24, 2015, 3:24 PM EDT

So, the Packers were interested in Reggie Wayne. Unless they weren’t.

In another case of ESPN-on-ESPN crime, Josina Anderson reports that wide receiver Reggie Wayne “considered waiting for the Packers, but the team did not confirm interest” before he signed with the Patriots.

This came hours after colleague Dianna Marie Russini reported the Packers were going to call about the veteran wideout, considering starting receiver Jordy Nelson tore his ACL this weekend.

Wayne, of course, signed with the Patriots. Which means the initial report of Packers interest was likely little more than a last-ditch attempt by a source close to Wayne to get a little something extra out of New England.

Which is fine, because Wayne to the Packers never really fit their profile anyway.

The Packers have always been able to replace wide receivers with their own young players, though it usually comes when the older ones leave for big money in free agency. So while adding Wayne was the kind of move that many teams could justify, it didn’t really add up.

When you have a great quarterback such as Aaron Rodgers, it makes you more willing to take chances on unproven receivers like Davante Adams or Jeff Janis (or the next great unknown in their pipeline), knowing they still have Randall Cobb on the other side.

So who goes first Washington fans...RG3 or Gruden..?

Yup...

SM is in full evaluation mode. However, I think both are elsewhere next season.
That 16 mil wont be on the books if they flat out cut him right?

Fanning the fire... he had nothing left like 3-4 years ago but I would love to see he and Brady or he and Rodgers together again. Former Vikings LB Ben Leber said on the radio this morning that "we might see him in green and gold" but I doubt it.

Smh I'd rather have gb have interest in Reggie :frown:. Reggie's the straight edge black dude that is really white inside, now is going to learn the cheating ways

And niners offseason really didn't make any sense. Like why did they get Torrey smith when kaepernick has a long ball completion of like 30 %

Giants D line is so bad, we should be signing Osi to a one year deal and not a one day deal.
