If Romo got his money with 1 playoff win and a bad back they should have no problem giving Dez his.

Not even close to comparable. Romo is a QB, a franchise QB at that. At the time of his deal there was also NO ONE else available. Add in the fact that Romo's salary isn't even in the top 8 or so.

Having a WR accounting for 13 % of your cap is crippling and moronic and it's something the Cowboys would have done 4 or 5 years ago.

As far as the cap goes:
NT: "Cowboys are in cap hell Hardy har"
Reality: Cowboys cap situation is very manageable.

Tyron taking such a team friendly deal really helped; Carr's cap hit will decrease next year since this is the last year of his 'bad' deal; we're no longer taking cap hits for Miles Austin's contract. Giving Dez the ''more than Megatron' contract he is looking for would then put Dallas in cap hell. Dez is accounting for 12.8 mil this year by being franchised: Cowboys were fine with this. If/when a deal gets done tomorrow, that cap hit shrinks to 5-6 mil. But the fact that the Cowboys are perfectly content with a 13 mil cap hit is an indicator of what Stephen has done with cap management.

what is realistic for Dez, 7 years $100 million? $30-40 guaranteed

Spot on.

This is what the deal should be and most likely what has been offered. Dez wants something more like 5 years 96 million with 55 guaranteed. Same thing with DT. These dudes are bugging. That CJ contract was based on the old rookie wage scale. And neither one of these dudes are better than Calvin which makes this so much more annoying. But I understand it's a business and I respect Dez if he chooses to hold out and do what he feels is in his best interest.

But those numbers are exactly what the deal should be. I would give a big kudos to Stephen and the Boys as that's a very reasonable and team friendly deal. Frederick is gonna need to get his deal pretty soon and depending on how well Hardy plays, he may need a deal. Can't do that when a WR accounts for 13% of your cap.

Cowboys are smart for playing it the way they have, I don't blame Dez for wanting his money but teams who pay WR huge deals isn't a good thing IMO. 10 years ago Jerry would have made him the highest paid WR in the league without question.

I think when it comes down to it, Dez caves and takes a deal more favorable to the Cowboys but still gets paid.

Pretty much what I believe. Dez loves football too much to be away for so long. And it's ****** up because the Cowboys are using that to their advantage as leverage in a way. What's also ****** up is that Dez (and Demarco) were both on the team when scrubs were getting ridiculous contracts (Barber, Hamlin, Roy Williams) and now, after record breaking seasons by these guys they can't get paid . Dallas basically smartened up afterwards and I know they must feel some type of way bout those dudes getting paid and never fully earning it like they have.

I want Dez on the team; met him last year at the 40-40; most down to earth celebrity athelte I've come across. But I'm not trying to be financially tied to someone at a skill position years down the road that compromises the teams ability to get better. He will sign the deal Dallas has on the table, against his agents wishes.

But we need Demariyus to bite first

Well it might take a Megatron like deal or close to it. Dez was the best receiver in the league last year. He's seen a bunch of dudes that don't deserve it take Jerry's money now he wants his. I don't blame him.

I agree for the most part.
It's smart business.

But sometimes loyalty > business.

If the difference between making your super star happy is the difference between 95 and 100 then I say do it.
It's going to be a lot either way, but at least Dez is durable unlike other WR's who break the bank.

Unfortunately it doesn't have much to do with the 95 and 100 million as that part of the contract will be backloaded to where he doesn't see any of it.

It's the guaranteed funds that are holding this up. Dez was originally offered 100 mill with 20 guarantees. He scoffed at this (can't say I blame him). Cowboys upped it to 30 ish allegedly and now the reports indicate he wants "more than Calvin" money which would be 50 million at least in guarantees which is remarkably higher than 30. Apparently the 'years per' aren't even an issue with Dez; it's that security again.

Another problem [on the Cowboys end] is that they don't want to be the first to set the market; a market in which no one seems to know where it's really at. I'm hoping the Broncos bite first but Demaryius, just like Dez, is asking for 'more than Calvin' money and I just don't see Elway being that stupid. They already offered him upwards of 14 mill a year and he wants over 16.

It really is unfortunate that the Cowboys smartened up at a time in which Dez was on the roster because as some of you alluded to, he witnessed all these scrubs get ridiculous deals.

Personally, I also think this is an ego thing with Dez. He's a team player no doubt. But he really believes he's the best. The moment NFL network put him as the 15th best player, he went to twitter and tweeted "lol @nflnetwork." By Dez getting more than Calvin in his contract, it justifies his belief that he's the best.

Nonetheless, this is ALL very interesting and these next 14 hours are so will be fun. I kinda wanna see the drama that may ensue if a deal doesn't get done

Appreciate the insight. I really didn't know all that, Repped.

"UPDATE on DT story. Speculation from multiple agents is #broncos offer eclipses $40 mill guaranteed. Will that be enough? Deadline tomorrow"

If this garbage is true, that means Dallas will have to exceed that number because I'm sure Dez and his agents are going to make the case that he's better than DT. :smh:

As a Broncos fan, we are bugging but DT is Mannings BFF so whatever.

Dez deserves a ridiculous contract. Guy is one of the best I've seen in many years. He's in another class. I think he's much better than everyone else besides Calvin.

DT doesn't deserve a huge contract. Seen him disappear in big moments a few times. Dropped passes and looking intimidated. I like him but I would go near 40 mil for him.

Every year we hear almost every team's in cap hell but somehow still makes all these huge deals. I don't even believe it when I hear it anymore.
