Favre, Romo, Rivers, Kurt Warner, Trent Green probably in there. Big Ben went from serviceable to good to now above average, but he was really average as a Q up until just a few seasons ago.

Trent Green? Huh? Do you know the time frame we are looking at?

Serviceable?

This isn't Matt Cassell

Al Davis really was a pioneer
Sidetrack...  But yeah, one of the greatest figures in sports.  Challenged the NFL and it's "company man" approach (which the others mentioned represent) in all the right ways.  Including racism, sexism, etc.

But it's the "kiss-the-ring, don't rock the boat" types who will always be built up and supported behind the scenes by the NFL.

is big ben not a HOF in your eyes?
No.  Is he in yours?

i lean to yes on Ben. he's one of those guys that was never best QB in the league but always in the top few. what you said about the bus reminded me of ben, so thought i'd ask

Until last year I don't remember Ben ever being looked at as a top QB

really? after the usual four...who was consistently ahead of ben?

Peyton
Brees
*
Rodgers
Ryan
Rivers

I don't remember him being rated as 5 he always seemed to get the QB manager stamp and rated higher by flash in the pans like Vick

favre on the tail end of his career maybe. warner for sure. rivers, romo i'm not so sure about. i know romo is RARELY thought of as a top QB in the league. i tend to give him more credit than others, but most people don't have him ahead of ben most of the time (year to year). similar with rivers.

Ben is Hall worthy IMO, last season alone showed how far he has come

Ben's biggest fault to many is that he had a great team around him when he was a rookie, if Russell stays on track he will the next Ben

'yes'
Solid counter point.

Lot of unchecked aggression towards Pitt tonight. confused on why

Had to look it up, but Green was just before Bens time. He had a great stretch though so nothing laughable there at all.

Ben has long been a very, very good quarterback from a skill-level perspective.  I think maybe ya'll are being too harsh on him.  And he's maintained that through different eras of his team as players came and went which definitely deserves praise.

It's interesting that his best has seemingly come as his team is at its worst—because they're throwing all the time with their weak defense he's getting more credit even as they've been struggling (relatively).  I think that says something about the way we evaluate QB play.

But not hof level good.  Floated around the borderline top-5 for a few years now.

Also a scumbag, obviously.

Basically that KC team was dynamite offensively.  They had that incredible playoff game vs. Indy, with the Dante Hall runback, where the defense could not get a single stop.

Ben was a top 5 QB for like a 3 game stretch last season

What's to counter?

Ben was never top 5. You said it yourself. Not until recently has he started lighting it up. I answered a question and back when Ben was still considered what we say Russell Wilson is now, there were plenty guys you could group ahead of and around Roethlisberger.

And don't flatter yourself. I don't hate Pittsburgh.

My wanting a counterpoint was to the Trent Green comment and serviceable/Cassel comment. Not the top five discussion. And my aggression towards Pitt wasn't just about you. I think some lines are being crossed

As I said, you guys can be upset about it but chances are Ben is getting on. Just how it is

Al Davis talk :pimp:

I don't think Bettis is a HOFer. I'm not sure if I would put Ben in either. I would put Ben in before Bettis though.
