2015 10 Best and Worst States to make a living

50k a year definitely won't put you in a nice house in the nicer suburbs of Dallas but could cop you a nice apt in the burbs and flourish.

Just don't get one of those cookie cutter homes tho. Identical exterior and often time very little backyard space.

I thought that Georgia and Alabama would be in the top five for sure because of the low cost of living.

Cost of housing is up everywhere right now. In my area, they are building homes that are 400k-500k when the price for a comparable home a few years ago was $240k. I was planning on moving to another area in the same city, but I'm going to stay put to take advantage of The rise in property value that's happening were I am.

@youngdoc
 You live in LA right?  You may want to look at condos instead of houses

Yeah I do.

I'm not even close to looking yet.

I won't finish training until summer 2018 and I don't even know if I'll still be in LA.

By then I'll be married if everything goes to plan and our combined income will be ~8 times greater than what mine is now.

i dont even see why virginia is on the list for one of the best states to live in considering the whole state is eating off northern virginia. Virginia hella expenisive with all those property taxes states taxes emission test.
I'm going to assume because of job opportunities, but you are 100% correct. Love my state, but a lot of development needs to happen in all areas outside of NoVa.

not gon lie hella jobs up that way i use to contract up in NoVa, but the housing market is crazy high and offsets the job salaries . Got to come off 300k+ for a new townhome :x

Yeah to really enjoy the parts of VA not Northern, having a great salary is key. Problem is those opportunities aren't as abundant.
