Whatup God's.

So as crazy as this sounds. I'm buying a car for the first time. I never really got a chance to do so before and I think the time is right. NYC public transporation has served me well and has given me many stories to tell but the time is ripe to experience some road rage.

So here's my situation:
- $11,000 limit on a car, def not balling like some of you's but with my other expenses it's as much as I can give right now
- Looking for a used car
- Looking for a reliable car despite mileage (looking at Toyota's, Subaru's, Lexus', Honda's)
- Preferably looking at an AWD, automatic car to help me out with these NYC winters.

I have no clue what's what when stepping into a dealership.

Right now I've been looking through Autotrader.com and Carguru's.com.

What I need help on:
- What is the best way to get a used car for a good deal? Negotiate on a used car by telling them I'm going to buy straight up?
- What websites should I use when going through this process? Carguru's, kellybluebook, ???
- How do I negotiate?
- WHAT THE **** am I looking for to know the car really runs good?

As you can see, your boy needs help. I got a couple mechanic friends, but i'd still like to be informed as much as possible.

Help your man's out.

Appreciated.

Tip: call the dealership ahead of time with a lowball offer...something along the lines of "i have only 10k to spend on this car that is priced at 11k. Is it worth my time to come in?"

If dealer says no, don't waste your time. If he or she says yes, then play ball. Get his or her name and note the quote given for the particular car (VIN) you're looking at/interested in. Now when you go in, preferably with your mechanic buddy, you can begin the negotiating process further downward from a high of 10k. Instant savings of 1k.

Also try to go in toward the end of the month. I hear dealerships are more receptive to markdowns and discounts later in the month because there's pressure to meet sales quotas.

Papi go to MajorWorld they can you get a great used car for two nail clippers and a used yankee ticket stub. them dudes give out cars with no regard.

Always negotiate the full price of the car, not the monthly payments.  Once you establish the price you want to pay total, then negotiate the monthly payments.

Do you want to go to a dealership for a used car? Might be cheaper looking for private seller and bring a mechattic with you to check it out before you buy.

This is what you do OP.

You take that 11K, and use it as a downpayment toward a '16 M3 or you cop da Hellcat.

Get that 120 month auto loan famb.

:smokin You'll be stuntin' like yo' papi.

In all seriousness, since it's your first car I'd set the limit at 7K instead of 11K. I'd find out what car I wanted, I'd find different dealerships with the same model and call and ask them to beat the lowest price.

Def hire a mechanic if buying from a smaller car lot or a private dealer.

Cars.com, autotrader, Hemmings (for older cars) are all good places to evaluate the market. Def use KBB. Make sure you checkout the carfax.

Most dealerships don't have cars under 10k, if they do the car is way past 100k. I suggest you use that 11k and look on Craigslist or other car sites.

I've never, ever had a dealership say NO to that question. They'll always say yes and then try to work on you in person even if the deal is not possible.

Get the Mazda car

Do research, plenty of research. Be well rested and pay attention to what they are saying. Don't ever feel rushed to cop. Don't be scared to walk out if you feel uncomfortable.

Car dealers are shady b. They aren't your friend.

Op, don't buy from a dealership. They overcharge since they obviously have to make money. Buy from a private seller, go on Craigslist and be patient.
Since you are in NYC and already know you would prefer an AWD vehicle, buy a Subaru Impreza. For $11k, you can find a nice one. Just use common sense when checking out the car, ask about what maintenance they did, take your mechanic, car fax, etc. you will be able to purchase a newer and better car buying private. $11k on Craigslist and $11k at the dealership is night and day, check the dealer's prices then look on CL, you'll save thousands..

Any bmw any year any mileage any interest amount

OP if you know nothing about cars and no one around you who knows about cars go to a dealership before you make a thread 6 months from now saying it broke down

Your best bet is a Toyota dealership

I appreciate all the advice Gods.

So hear me out.

I'm kinda looking at a couple car options:

Rav4
Camry
Accord
Impreza
CR-V

I still wanna look at some Lexus models.

Do you guys vouch for any model I listed above or any Lexus models? My cousin told me to look at the IS300's....

Do you have a family OP? If so or you planning on filling your girls gas tank up anytime soon...do the RAV4.....but Camry/accord>>>>>

Yo OP! Just lease, fam
If you looking to spend 11k, you can get a brand new 2015 luxury jumpoff for about 250 a month for 36 months with about 2k down.

I found what seems like a nice Rav4 with 102k on it. For my price range of 11 G's is 102k too much for even a toyota car?

Also, let's say I get a mechanic to come with me to check out the car. I know it's def warranted that I pay him for his time, if he's not a close family friend. How much should I pay?

I was thinking about doing this too, but i'm not familiar at all with Leasing a whip. What happens if it gets damaged?

You in NYC, ain't no point in owning a car here, the streets will **** your car up. Might as well lease. No worries about maintenance. It's the best option, fam. And you get to switch up every 3 years. I'm sure you gonna get tired of your current whip after 3 years. Might as well switch it up. Luxury, fam
