NaS opens up chicken & waffle restraraunt in NYC vol. Nas Won

50 made 100 million dollars

Famb made it seem like 50 cent was apart of some brain trust that knew Coke was gonna swoop in and buy it up for several hundred million...

Right place right time.

Not knocking him at all for it... But for people that think 50 was just some mastermind behind the deal...

Nah... Not buying it.

They couldn't pay him in cash because they didn't have enough positive flow at the time... So they gave him shares of the company.

1. that's the whole concept behind investing period.

2. He knew beforehand they didn't have cash to pay... so before the deal he already knew he was going in for stock.... it wasn't like he got surprised by the stock options right before he was going to sign....

3. If you think about how many companies probably approached him... how many options he had to invest his image/money in... the vitamin water deal wasn't just some random flip of a coin.... I mean.. he could have invested in a random chicken and waffle spot like nas back then too...

give props when props are due....

Based on Coke's history and the market at the time. I don't think would be far fetched to think 50 cent expected a buyout one day from a major beverage company.

The amount was ridiculous though, no way to see that coming. He got lucky as hell with that.

aren't most big buyouts luck? I mean I'm sure who ever invested into Beats didn't see Apple coming in and swooping them up.....

if that was the case everybody and their mother would've tried investing into that project heavily

then you have people who sold their shares prematurely only to miss out on the big bucks that later came

the 50 Cent campaign was a massive success and launched Vitamin Water on a global scale. Within a year, Vitamin Water's sales exploded to the point where it controlled 30% of the U.S. sports water market. Annual revenues grew from $100 million, to $355 million to $700 million between 2005 and 2007.

On May 25, 2007, Rohan Oza's old company acquired Vitamin Water's parent company Glaceau for a mind-boggling $4.1 billion in cash. That purchase price earned 50 Cent a whopping $200 million before taxes, roughly $100 million after taxes.

Yes and no...

Depends on the climate, the industry, competitors, and the product's viability.

We all know about tech buyouts and ridiculous valuations, but in a lot of industries, some places would rather compete for market share through their logistic advantages and huge corproate backing than buying it up and risking tons of integration issues, flop on sales, lack of support from shareholders, etc.

If 50 went into this thinking "I'm going to exit this with x number of shares" cool....

I just thouht they saw a new York based rapper coming up... They asked him to be on board... And it exploded...

There's a distinct difference between investing in something... And receiving sharers because their lack of endorsement dollars.

If somebody came to you and said "hey... We don't have enough money, but we'll pay you in parts of our company"... Who wouldn't take it?

It's almost ZERO risk involved in that...

I said that I'm not knocking him... Major come up in the game...

But I just struggle to think that 50 was in the lab conjuring this move up...

What other major moves or risks has he made since the Vitamin Water come up?

If I'm wrong, I'm most certainly hold the L...

Every broke company loves to offer equity...gives them nothing to lose if they fail...

you think 50 cent was "up and coming" when he invested in vitamin water....?

everything you've been dropping in this thread has been semi delusional...

you think getting offered options in a company with no real cash flow is a sure bet 100% of the time and everybody would take it if given the chance....not even thinking about a non-compete clause which would bar him from any beverage endorsements he could take in

your opinion of 50 and 50 fans is clouding your perspective...

So many well versed people on restaurants and finance in here. Who needs experience when you have nt :pimp:

50 cent was making vitamin water moves years ago...

Dre had the beats move years ago...

Jay made record label and clothing moves over a decade ago...

Nas partners with a chicken and waffle spot in 2015... and he's not even an equity partner....

This isn't even threadworthy imo

Basically. We got a rapper that's been in the game 20 plus years, for over 2 decades and we got people in here priaising him partnering....not even owning but partnering with a greasy chicken and waffle spot in 2015. Truly embarrassing on many different levels.

More power to Nas for finally attempting to get his finances in order after many a years of struggle but this news simply isn't thread worthy. I don't want you dudes to have this same small time mentality. Time for dudes to step it up and take it to the next level.

What businesses are you running/own in 2015?

Even if he was .02% of nt has the capacity to open a successful chicken spot yet it's 2015 and every nt'er Is in the game

If the cats laughing at him knew you don't just up and open a chain rather sell franchises they'd sit down. Or maybe he does go nation wide on his first spot and it tanks. Then what, he's out a couple hundred mil?

This thread is laughable. I could make more money off a "greasy chicken spot" selling to go chicken than any sit down fancy place. Anyone who actually knows a single thing about restaurants knows labor kills all profits. Big fancy place = big labor. You might as well be selling crack in a tiny chicken spot if you can keep it full.

But you guys already know that because you're experts.
