Taiwan just got its first female president (who is very pro independence).

China finna be PISSED
Taiwanese checking in.

While I'm not entirely pro independence or pro "One China", I'm disgusted we aren't allowed to use our own flag for international events. If you gon' call yourself the big brother, act like one and let these petty things go

Have you heard about that Taiwanese kpop singer? She appeared on a show with her bandmates who all carried a flag of their home country. She held the Taiwanese flag and she was basically forced to make a public apology to China. She's 16, like cmon fam.

Yep, that's actually the one I had in mind when I was typing. So petty and irrelevant.

You guys ever notice that almost none of the very few asian-americans in entertainment have asian s/o? Discuss.

Edit:

Googled daniel dae kim and john cho and they both have asian wives. This more so applies towards the female entertainers.

its not petty though, letting taiwan use its own flag is allowing them to see themselves as their own country.

any group from china is required to use the chinese flag

We're not though ...

Hong Kong is amazing, and I'm planning to hit up Taiwan later this year too. Honestly I've never been to mainland China just cause of the pollution (same reason my Chinese friends from Beijing/Shanghai don't go back either except for family events). Obviously it's not like that all the time, but I don't want to book plane tickets in advance and then have to wear goggles and face masks everywhere when I get there

But yeah, HK would be one of the countries/cities in Asia where I could see myself living (if I ever got used to Asian summers, something that never happened even when I would go every summer until I was 18), along with Singapore, South Korea, and Japan. Yes, I know those four happen to make up most of the "advanced" nations  I've got love for Southeast Asia too; there's just less job opportunities for foreigners there unless you're in tourism, and 100x more mosquitos :x

How is the southern part of China? All I know is Guangzhou is where a lot of our client's electronics are made  Most Chinese people living here in Cali are from southern China (which is why you usually only hear Cantonese here). The only people I personally know that speak Mandarin are Taiwanese, bilingual Chinese, and a couple of my friends that were grad students that ended up staying here permanently
