I'm not a student athlete on scholarship with a possibility to make it to the NFL. It has everything to do with him being responsible and making better decisions. Losing his cool and punching a female was a irresponsible decision that could have been avoided if he stayed at home that night.. I've been drunk and posted about it on NT but I've never done anything while drunk to jeopardize my freedom or livelihood. This isn't about me it's about him, I'm not on video Mayweathering a female in a bar. Stop deflecting. If he loses is cool that easily and is that wreckless he def doesn't need to frequent bars in the future. I've been attacked outside of a bar by a female, I didn't hit her back though because I knew I would get locked up for doing so. Luckily for me there was a cop across the street who saw the whole thing and arrested the ratchet who attacked me.

If my nephew were to get an athletic scholarship to a D1 in the future I would tell him to stay away from bars and clubs and strictly focus on his sport and academics. Am I wrong for that?

I agree with what you're saying. It wasn't okay or a good idea to punch the girl. But the problem here isn't going out to "turn up". This is what college athletes do. This is what elite pro athletes do. And there's nothing wrong with it. Again, the real issue is this guy's decision to clock the girl, not partying like most college athletes do.

if he wasn't out "turning up" and instead in his dorm reading a book, he would still be a FSU student athlete. College shouldn't always be about turning up, rather preparing for the future. Responsible student athletes aren't out and about turning up at bars acting a fool.

You do realize that most college athletes make it through college without some sort of scandal like this, right? And that goes for those that end up playing professionally and those that don't. You can't take this one scenario and apply it to all college athletes. Plenty make it through college partying without laying hands on someone else at a bar. Again, the root issue is his actions, not being at a bar.

And as someone that worked with a mid-major D1 athletic department throughout most of college (and dated an athlete), I can tell you that most student athletes aren't in the dorms on a Saturday night. It sounds great on paper, but it just isn't how things are. IMO, it's unfair to tell them to not be a college kid because you can run or jump higher than the average human. Granted, they know they have more to lose should they be caught doing something illegal. But if you're partying on the up-n-up, what's wrong with that?

Looks to me like she put put hands on him first, "provoking" his actions word to Stephen A Smith. Idk if he even deserves to get kicked off the team tbh
 
If he cut that girl off when she tried to get to the bar, then turn around aggressive wit his fist raised, then swung first wit his left ya would say he was Wildin and want this dudes head and put in prison, but since she's a girl it's ok cuz her left hook can't hurt right .....Equal Rights Equal Lefts #LetDeandrePlay

Nonsense. Punch wasn't needed but it sent the right message. I don't think he should have been taken off the team.

Homes messed up and should have just brushed it off but this notion that women should get a free pass for throwing punches at people is nonsense.

If she was a guy people would laugh at the video.

If he hit a guy he's still on the team, to me that's wrong. The issue isn't violence it's who you're violent with, the same people calling for his head don't say **** about Hope Solo beating on people.

He was holding her hands he was not in danger and he knew it. Its like oh you hit me with a spatula and i smash you with a cast iron skillet. How anyone thinks this is ok is beyond me. The standard is always DANGER not sexual orientation. When you are a 6 foot 4 QB you have the physical advantage. Nothing that girl does to you is honestly going to damage you. Whether she was a man or woman he wasn't in danger.
