2. Yes, Da Souf seceded because of Slavery. Look at the culture of Jim Crow in the 20s. Now multiply that by 100 and make racism an ECONOMIC NECESSITY. That was the antebellum, King Cotton South. White southerners were dependent on the economic benefits and cultural implications of slavery to preserve their entire way of life. The South after emancipation was literally a third world country.

This was a period of rapid expansion for the USA. As soon as a new state entered the Union, opposing groups would literally battle it out in order to claim it as a free or slave state. Look up Bleeding Kansas.

1. Okay then... See, I wasn't really aware of that. Were the seceding because somebody was telling them they couldn't keep slaves? Or because all the free labor was hurting the norths economy?



2. I know that a lot of those white southerners couldn't really maintian their greenbacks without slaves... So they were not trying to come off that.
