Wow Doctors are getting paid so much now after this Affordable Care Act

If you go to school for half your life you deserve it

They do a lot of school but not nearly half a lifespan

If you go to school for half your life you deserve it

word, w.e $ they make is absolutely deserved.

you can become filthy rich as an entertainer and bring almost nothing to the societal table, unlike those who actually impact society on an everyday basis. school teacher, doctor, firefighter...

we can simply say that is the capitalistic society we live in today...and i say fine. i can dig it.

....but to me, its a little backwards that you can make almost $230mil beating the life out of a man for 36 min, but you graduate with debt with no million dollar salary trying to save one.

Everyone in healthcare seems to be paid way too much.  I know nurses making $185k a year.  Oncologists making $300-400k a year, Surgeons billing $2,500-$5,000 an hour and it goes on.  No wonder healthcare is so expensive in this country

Is this actually correlated to the ACA? so you're telling me better salaries for the healtcare workers, more money to the hospitals for resources, more/better staff to eliminate strain... what's the healthcare workers opposition to this again? what's Ben Carson's issue?

Most md's deserve every penny they make.

If I were a md I would work in clinical r&d, and eventually try and get into a top leadership position vp, cso, whatever. Those guys make much more than a practicing md and don't have to deal with the patients and other bs that comes with practicing medicine.

Then again, I don't have what it takes to be a md.

Whats wrong with an oncologist making 300-400K

What is the surgeon billing that amount for?

Again many specialties are seeing significant drops in pay and working harder in the process. Its good to see primary care physicians salary going up though

Even if you have the mental capacity to absorb all of the information it takes to make decisions during an operation on another person, you have to be a special kind of person to get over that hurdle of CUTTING SOMEONE OPEN in order to do your job.

Dudes must think you can be a Brain Surgeon and lurk on NT.

Think of your last bad day at work... Did anyone die under your supervision? I doubt it.

Most Drs. don't get outta school until 30+ years old with 6 figure debt.

I'm a nurse and a few of my co-workers are making around that 185k. They work 2 full time jobs, 6 12-hour shifts (72+ hours/ week) with only Sunday off, or they work in the prison/jail, or in Intensive care. The $ is mostly made in OT and double time. Nurses are on the floor with the patient 24/7 and are the most trusted profession for like 20 years running (only in 2011 when firefighters won 9/11).

In addition, the affordable care act taxes the top tax bracket (200k+ income earners) an additional 3.8%, Obama also raised taxes for top bracket earners from 36% to 39.6%. If you're making that top tax bracket $, over 40% of it is going to the Fed.

Wait are dudes seriously question healthcare workers salaries? Imagine the toll seeing death that often takes on you.

Certainly is at the top of the spectrum, sure.  But that advances the point... If you're the best brain surgeon, then you should be making that much money... Probably more.

Vet Min in the NBA is like $1.5M.

Yea I was just backing up your point that even if they did make that routinely it is deserved.

I hear you.

I bet if you asked some of the same dudes complaining about these salaries what they thought about David West going to the Spurs for Vet min of $1.5M they'd praise him.

How can you compare to NBA players?  the NBA has millions of viewers around the world so these NBA players are in a rare profession where what they do actually have viewers on a global level.  People watch NBA games they don't watch operations

So how many people watch your profession determines your worth?

How many people tuned into see Shawn Marion ride the pine for 1.44M with the Cavs this season?

Im all for athletes making what they do esp high profile athlethes but you cant tell me that Drs are overpaid but someone who sits on the bench isnt.

Basketball is a team sport so even the reserves makeup part of the product which are the teams however large or small their role may be and their pay is negotiated between their agent and the teams.  My whole point was that NBA players just like movie stars etc. can't be compared to most other professions because they're in a rare profession where what they do is being watched by millions around the world

For the love of God man, stop all this pocket watching and yearning for other people's lives. It's starting to become pathetic. Again, whatever it is, just do it.

I don't even know what you're talking about.  I was just saying this is probably the reason why healthcare is so expensive in this country compared to most of the world.  Healthcare workers in other countries aren't paid like this.

if a staff nurse is making 185k do understand they are working a full time job and damn near full time hours PRN at another facility........

Like I stated on page one if you're going to be mad then get mad at the people RUNNING THE HEALTHCARE SYSTEM.......the one running ours got like a 5 million dollar bonus last year and that's after they cut a couple hundred jobs
