Golden State Niketalk Dudes: Is Life In California As Great As TV/Movies Makes It Out To Be?

hahahaha funny you mention that, I just got an email from LA DWP the other day talkin bout the quality of the water supply. Supposedly it is drinkable?

I guess to each their own. I'm not tryin to raise my family in the hood. I'd rather bust my *** trying to get by in a good part of town.

That was all jokes tho
You can fine nice little communities where houses are decently priced and you aren't in the hood.

But if you are trying to live in beach cities or Hollywood or silver lake yeah you ain't cutting it unless you earn millions.

man this is so true its depressing. I dont know how anyone is buying a single family home in a beach city unless their household income is at least $350K/yr, and thats for the smallest house on the block.

100% true. If you're well off you will have a blast. If you struggle with your finances well... at least there's the weather.

One other thing I can mention is that at least here in LA you can't drink the tap water :smh:
Just run it thru a filtration system and you're good. The primary, secondary and tertiary treatments are ample for potable water.

I love LA and SD. I wouldn't make the move unless your job pays at least $60k a year unless you plan to have roommates.

I live in San Diego and I absolutely love it. Expensive as hell though but I knew that was apart of living down here. Come visit me DC

But on a serious note, is California really going to eventually run out of water?

NY > California

i still want to visit san diego some day... i hear the weather is amazing all year around.. i been to the bay and LA and they are pretty cool and i would say i enjoy both equally as much but i feel like theres more to do in LA but the traffic sucks... i wouldnt mind living in the bay area but the cost of living is no joke :smh:

Lived in LA, SD and now SF.  These cities are expensive but some of the people here in this thread are over exaggerating it about needing to be a millionaire or what not which is far from the case.

Out of state NT'ers should come for a summit [emoji]128153[/emoji]

I live in SF, 2nd most expensive city in the US. I started living on my own here at $40K a year after college and I managed perfectly. I drove my 02 Honda Accord, only bought clothes when I actually needed them, refrained from eating out every day, etc until I started making more money. The only way you @#$@ up out here is if you want to live in luxury when you really can't afford it. This is NT though, based on what people type on here, they're not willing to sacrifice their image a little to live in a nicer city

best city imo is San Diego, the people are great there and the weather, girls, food is awesome

I personally hate LA, only time I go there is to see Dj's at 1 venue I like

Born and raised in the Bay Area. I hate it here now. I would leave and never come back. La and SD are

. But I'm moving back to NYC this year, I need action. However, if you are a transplant the Bay Area might be great for you. You might not even notice the stuff I dislike (lack of broads, nightlife sucks, hella dudes now
sick.gif
etc.)This is through the lens of a bitter baydestrian.

but what youre describing is just maintaining and basically living paycheck to paycheck. I mean, whats the cost of a basic 1bd apt in SF in a decent clean part of town. $1,800? $2,000? Even if youre making $60K a year, your rent alone is going to end up being 50%+ of your net pay. How are you ever going to save up to buy your own place when youre just treading water on a month to month basis?

I love my state. Great women, weather, places to visit, so much to do. And the best greenery :smokin

That's what I'm saying too. I'm not about living that check to check life. Let's say $60k and you're putting 5 percent into 401k and if you're single and claim 0, that's about $3k net a month.

You factor rent, in SoCal it will be at least a grand for a studio even in the hood. Add utilities, car payment, insurance, gas money, grocery, it goes real quick.

People do make more here though...

Anyone making 60k should have a roomie regardless in LA/SF area.

You can easily rent a decent room in a 2 bedroom apartment for $1-$1.2K out here (which is what I did/do). My expenses while making $40K out of college were

$1100 for rent
$100 for utilities
$140 for car insurance
$300-$500 for going out/gas/public transportation (Which I could've easily cut down on, but I love to drink/party too much  )

Which allowed me to save basically an entire paycheck every month. Not ideal but nowhere near struggling at all. I bought a car All I'm saying is that you don't have to have $$$ to live out here, you just have to budget and set realistic expectations.
