Are Video Games A Waste Of Time?

Yes and no.

In my opinion, games with long single-player story modes for the most part are wastes of time. You'll get nothing aside from achievements or some kind of in-game or in-system award. The exceptions are games that are either extremely good or games that are a part of popular culture. By playing those games you can engage in conversation with friends about the game or the continuous storyline. It's sort of like going to see a popular movie. Similarly, games with multiplayer capabilities are a lot like a social activity which is not a waste of time.

To be clear, when I say "waste of time," I mean for cases where there are several more productive uses for your time through other hobbies AND it does not offer any other benefits such as social ones. I don't think something that offers diversion and an outlet during downtime can be called a pure waste of time, just that there are better alternatives.

I have some special memories with video games. I remember times my mother and I would take turns playing Super Mario Bros Deluxe on Gameboy Color, Tetris on the OG Gameboy, and plying Super NES with my grandma. I want to share the same experiences with my children when I have them.

As for video games being a waste of time, there's always something more productive you could be doing. I wish I could go back to middle school and put down the controller to do a bit more studying.

"if you're older than __ and play video games, you're a loser" :x

Dude completely exposed himself

The clearly insecure type who values others opinions of him more than he should. I doubt he knows who he is at the moment in his current quest to appear cool to them.

Ok read back and he was joking. Still tried to front with the "from time to time". Chill b.

If you're saying gaming is a waste of time, do you think people are suppose to just work?
Everybody has a preferred way of spending time. There are wayyy stupider ways to spend your free time.

Ive been playing video games since the first nintendo
Same here. I'm old enough to have had an Atari, but moms was not cooperating with the plan. Finally got the NES on my 10th birthday, and been on and off ever since.

I only do fighters and sports games now.

To say video games is a waste of time is like saying watching movies or TV or listening to music or any other form of media entertainment is a waste of time

I'm 29 and I still play video games. I came up playing games and with how realistic they've become in our time, why stop?

It's no different from watching reruns for a few ours if you ask me.

I'm so tired of the I'm too grown for this steez :smh:

I was expecting the average video game player to be in their late 20's. It's a trip knowing that it's 35.

Don't see anything wrong with video games at all. I don't play them really now just cause I've gradually got diverted away from them. I think it's mostly cause the last time I really played them, it was 09/2010 when I was still rooming with 3 of my best friends back in college. Video games just weren't the same when we all left college. Also, I'm just not really big on current gaming. Dropping $50 for games became a drag when I thought about other stuff i could've been buying. Add on the controller costs and other random stuff (buying DLC content for every single aspect that would've originally been in previous gen games....really?) Give me Best of the Best, Zombies Ate My Neighbors, Def Jam Fight For NY, or Marvel Vs Capcom 2 on SNES/PS2 anyday over current stuff.

I love video games. Always have, and don't see myself stopping for any foreseeable reason.

When I first moved to NYC, I got a lot of flack from people saying there are a million things better to do in this city than sit in front of a TV and waste those hours. Never felt bad about it. I honestly believe every single person living dolo in this city busts their a** in one way or another to stay afloat. I personally work as an independent Art fabricator and a bartender. I'm out there 90% of my life.

The other 10%, I don't want to go "chill" with an overpriced mimosa at brunch with your friends cause they want an IG photo. Or go hang out in Central Park with a Budweiser playing frisbee with your friend who works for Facebook. I want a dub sack, air conditioning, Fifa and the sound of my own voice. People always say this city never sleeps and it's true, but everyone who lives in this city does. We all wind down in different ways, and getting away from the masses and getting into some Halo or FIFA suit my taste to my liking.

You could find a friend that buys every game and have him game share with you, you only buy controllers once and you get one with the system. DLC is optional. Most of the systems now are one stop entertainment centers. I'm sure you can cop one and be happy with the purchase.

Like Slamcity, 27 y/o, working a full time job, 2 per diem jobs, I find myself working 5+ days of the week. Helps me wind down and shut off the brain playing video games/netflix. Me and some friends get together about once a week and play Smash on N64, smoke, beers, catch-up. Just beat The last of Us, and Dishonored on PS3, enjoyed every minute.

Back in high school, I used to play Diablo and Warcraft all day. Nowadays, roughly half of my work is computer-based. I'm one of the fastest, if not the fastest in charting on the computer and I attribute it to the video games from then.
