Who's your cable/internet provider? Vol: Fed up with Comcast

Yea looking at the Verizon. It looks like a winner to me with the 100mps for $60/70.

Do you have to pay the installation fee or can you do everything on your own?

it depends i use to have comcast so it was easy to do it my self. just had to replace the comcast box with verizon boxes lol

Comcast here, I hate them but there's really no competition in my area. Uverse is trash.

Praying Google fiber comes to my area one day, but I doubt it. Representatives are bought and paid for.

comcast is about as bad as big oil companies, the gun lobby, and ISIS. i ******* hate comcast. their customer service is bad by design, it can't be otherwise. and X1 is trash. comcast acts like they are offering breakthru technology, man foh. streamlined guide at responsive speeds should've been released 10 yrs ago. AND they charge an HD fee. LOLWUTIS THAT

i've found that fios is the best move. its true fiber, better customer service. and they don't charge a bs HD fee. price wise they are better tha comcast, but nothing groundbreaking. they will still hit you with the price increase after that promo but their promos can last 2 yrs depending on what you get.

the internet connection is solid too. comcast dropped a lot on me. haven't had an issue with Fios.

MAJOR KEY. with verizon or comcast, BUY YOUR MODEM/ROUTER. it will pay itself off in no time at all. don't rent. FYI modem for comcast doesn't work with fios, since fios is fiber.

also if you are internet savy, fios is offering internet only deal, 50/50 $45 for first year, $55 for second. (you gotta have your own router, so just buy a verizon router off amazon, verizon charges too much).

go internet only, then cop nexus player, and get kodi app. congratulations. you just became a successful cable cord cutter.

Comcast, but only because it's 29.99 a month total. 25mb down. It's just me using it so its fast enough.

That reminds me, I gotta get me a router. I rented one when I signed with Verizon. Anyone with their own wanna recommend me one? Preferably one that can blast my signal. I have FIOS if that matters.

the fios quantum gateway is sold on amazon. buy it. don't go buying anything else, fios is different tech than regular cable. saw it on amazon for 140 bout to cop myself, and its dualband so 2.4 and 5ghz

*and when i say quantum gateway i mean its the ONLY thing you can buy.

I had verizon for phone/internet, paying $75 a month, random outages, a two week span of no service and 4/5 techs/service calls who couldn't solve anything. Living in unincorporated LA didn't make the service choice easy. They recently sold to a company called frontier and that's when i found out Charter had just started being offered in the neighborhood. Moved to charter for $42.XX a montth, 65 mbps down 5 up.

Crapcast and I play $60 for 100 mbs

Feels like im getting 50
Do a speedtest, how old is your router, modem? When was the service installed?

Had Fios and though it was coo, I was paying about $40 to rent everything, they're not offered in every area so I wasn't tryna buy the modem to have no use for it afterwards. Random outages, would be playing 2K and then say no LAN connected when it was, would lose all my progress :smh: Cut the cord a min ago and plan on getting Comcast but right now don't feel like adding another bill

Who's your phone carrier? If you're w/ T-mobile, they offer the Asus router (retails for about $150) for lease. You pay $25 and it's yours to least, when you're done, return it.

I was going to buy one like u posted above but didn't wanna drop the money, figured for $25, I can lease it and if it gets messed up or dies, they'll replace it.

just moved into my first house and im tryna find alternatives to cable.

im into sports. need showtime and HBO.

anyone got any ideas?

and whats this fire stick im hearing about?

Unfortunately, Comcast is a monopoly in Boston so I have no chance to sign up with them. Unless, I want DSL which I don't.

So, I do everything I can to keep the bill down as low as possible. I am on a plan for phone and cable for $59.99 but with taxes and whatever kind of "Comcast fees" they have, it totals up to about $70/month.

In order to keep it to the minimum of $70/month, I bought my own modem/router instead of using their crappy equipment. I have the combo modem/router and it cost me about $150 or so. It works well but if you want the fastest speeds then consider purchasing both separately.

I also do not have HD and it is an absolute BUZZKILL! It does save me $5.95/month as Comcast calls it the "HD Technology Fee". Go ahead next time and see that name on your bill. I get the most basic of the basic channels and I seriously don't even watch TV because of it. I am a huge sports guy but I usually use other "sources" to get HD sports. I am deciding on buying an HD antenna but I also feel that's stupid because I already get basic channels by Comcast.

All in all, Boston sucks when it comes to ISP's and I am just paying for Internet basically for $70/month.

I switched from fios to TWC because of the frontier merger. Frontier did not finish the fiber wiring at the new complex I moved to so all they offered was DSL. I had 75/75 and the router I had bought was working fine.

man att dsl  is so weak where i live. 6mps . 55 dollars a month with a data cap of 150 gb. my internet bill was 120 this past month. i finally got fed up and switched to time warner.

60 bucks a month for 200 mps and unlimited data. i dont know why i put up with att for so long. make the switch to something else. att is overpriced and horrible.

I have trash *** Century Link, paying for 25 MBs and getting closer to 12. Problem is I live in the suburbs or else I would pay a little more and get Cox Fiber Optic

True story. I've had xfinity internet for 4 years. I moved into my first solo apt. a couple months ago. I call up xfinity to switch addresses, figured I've done it a couple times and comcast is huge. No way a big city wouldn't have it. Dude on the phone is like "uhm.....we don't have support for your building". Caught me way off guard. I figured whatever I'll just switch. Call up Century Link, the only other provider in the area. The sales guy on the phone tells me the best he can get me is 7Mbps.... I use to be getting 130 with xfinity

.

Guy on the phone proceeded to feed me some bs about xfinity is a shared connection so you're not getting all that speed while we give you all of your 7Mbps. I'm like bruh, I could have lost 94% of my xfinity internet speed and still have faster internet then you, so wtf are you talking about. He was silent, but I signed up anyway. I didn't have a choice.  Best believe I'm keeping an eye out for comcast trucks around my area. Word is they're wiring up the building soon.

a couple months ago att dug up peoples yards and installed fiber without talking to the HOA.

we only had comcast and i was getting those stupid emails for downloading since comcast owns/nbc/universal.

we just got the notice that ATT fiber is available in our part.

its 100 Mbps for 50 a month and 1000Mbps for 70.

comcast SUCKS.
