Alejandro Inarritu's THE REVENANT (starring Leo Dicaprio, Hardy)

movie was amazing.

i was in awe the whole film and i swear i started feeling cold during the movie.

the camerawork was absolutely breathtaking.  that first scene where **** got real with the native americans was genius.

When he got attacked by the bear and shot the gun but missed :x :x :x :x :x :x :x

Watched this friday with my girl, glad i didnt pay to see this lol. It wasnt bad but def wasnt worth the money to me

I'm really hoping Leo gets the oscar this time, the performance(especially scenes lacking in dialogue) were amazing. I'm always rooting for dude and try to hold back when awards time rolls around but then I get hyped after seeing his movies.

-Eating raw bison when your a vegetarian
-learning 2 native indian languages
-building an actual fire onscreen
-learning those healing techniques

sure there are actors that do their research for films, but to make it that believable takes an incredible amount of talent and imagination, breaking down that 4th wall is no joke.
I was gonna ramble on, list his filmography, but now I'm just thinking how sick I will feel if this man again does not win an oscar, and I'm even sicker thinking that even then, he will still continue to give us such a high standard of performances until his time on this earth is done

:smh: damn shame

missed the head, but hit him in the neck. bear had enough life tho to put more paws on leo before leo clapped back with that hunting knife.

:pimp:

leo was okay in the movie

NT overrates him as an actor

if anything he's underrated?

Son, tell me that gunpowder on the throat scene wasn't raw af though.

:nthat:

this. interesting method of cauterization, never seen it portrayed with gunpower.

Probably told tom hardy to act like he was bane and attack him. Then the sfx guys just made him look like a bear.

Here's the list of Globes nominees for Drama and Comedy
I haven't seen all these movies, but I think DiCaprio stands a good chance

Feel free to add your commentary for movies I haven't seen

Drama
Will Smith - Concussion: bwaahahah no chance, this movie was laughable, should've been included in "comedy"
Fassbender - Steve Jobs: Didn't see it, but even though Fassbender is a god, this movie got weak reviews
Eddie Redmayne - Danish Girl: Probably DiCaprios best competition if the Acadamy wants to be predictable and reward the gender-bending performance
Leo - Revenant
Bryan Cranston - Trumbo: didnt see it, is it even out yet?

Comdey
Pacino - Danny Collins: Ive never heard of this
Ruffalo - Infinitely Polar Bear: Never heard of this
Bale - Big Short: Excellent movie, but this is a minor role, supporting actor at best
Steve Carrel - Big Short: Same as Bale, great movie, but ensemble cast
Matt Damon - Martian: Didn't see it, but people seemed to love it, my money is that this is DiCaprios biggest challenge if the Academy doesn't cave in to Redmayne

His "dramatic" acting consists of either yelling or whispering. That's pretty much it.
You can say this about anybody if you want to simplify their acting career and prowess to two things.

Leo didn't do much of either but was EXCELLENT in Catch Me If You Can.

Leo's competition is Redmayne. Although I guess you could call Cranston a darkhorse.

If the GG is placing Damon in the comedy category chances are he doesn't end up in the same category for the Oscars for Leo's group or might not get nominated at all.

Yes, this is good point

I will say, based on the Globes nominations, that this doesn't seem to be a year with any obvious Best Actor favorites, like a Day-Lewis/Lincoln
A lot of big names doing roles in smaller unknown films, so its anyone's game

Fassebender was great in Jobs, the movie got weak reviews because of its structure(it centers around 3 of apple's biggest releases) so it only deals with his keynote speeches and what went on behind the scenes of them, and within that we get snippets of his personal life, had it been a true biopic(since its based off of his autobiography) Fassebender would've been a steeper hill to climb for sure. Ironically, Leo dropped out of this to make the Revnant, bale also dropped out of Jobs, they probably didn;t like the story structure either

Eddie Redmayne, Really betting against him, if he wins it'll be his 2nd one in the row, already placing him in very good company. I liked the Hawking film but hate when the subject of biopics are still alive.

I feel like carrell def stood out in the big short, and stole alot of great scenes, he's def in the running for sure for best supporting come oscar time, it may come down to him and Walter Goggins from Hateful 8

Might watch Trumbo tonight just to see cranston in something else, since Godzilla didn't deliver. I'm sure he gives a solid performance though

no love for idris elba in beasts of no nation?

That's why I don't think Redmayne will win this time. That and cuz of the role he plays. I dunno if the Academy will go with a performance like that (a type they've acknowledged before) to win it all.

 I forgot Leo dropped out of the Jobs movie. If he had the time it would've been something else if he had those 2 movies in one year. He probably should up his output if he does win this year.
Elba is a supporting actor in that movie
And it'll be a robbery if he doesn't win for best supporting actor.

There's just been something about that movie, just the story that has been sticking with me for months now.
Bale and fassbender are head and shoulders better than Leo this year
Not really seeing it with Fass but I'll watch Jobs again.

And Bale? Really? For The Big Short? That's not even a top 10 Bale performance. I gotta assume you think that low of Leo's performance. I don't think Bale will get nominated and he's not gonna get placed in the best lead actor category. That'd jus be confusing why Carrell doesn't get that. Hard to even say who was the lead actor in a Big Short given how it's evenly split.
