Alejandro Inarritu's THE REVENANT (starring Leo Dicaprio, Hardy)

Don't you dare come at MBJ :pimp:

Yeah MBJ is the man. Pretty amazing how far he's come since the Wire but people on here hype him up so much you would think he's a DDLewis type talent . I like MBJ don't get me wrong, just think he's overrated (On NT)

I think people are more excited about what's to come with MBJ. He's one of the new class. It's exciting to watch an actor grow through their roles.

IMO The Oscars come way too fast they should be like the Olympics - every four years. Oscars are great, and have sentimental value - but at the end of the day you were simply judged the best of what dropped the last 12 months.
This doesn't make sense to me.

You're gonna wait 4 years and then tell them to compile the nominees for best performances by actors, actresses, best screenwriters, directors, film, etc.? Are we expanding how many nominees there can be? Would that even be fair to have like 15 nominees for every category? There'd be more robberies than normal. Especially when you don't know how many strong years in film you'll have.

Given the amount of movies that come out in a year you can argue for having the Oscars twice a year. I don't see how judging the best in a 12 month period is a bad thing when you factor everything in.

Oscars twice a year? Come on that's a tad out there. I wasn't being 100% serious about olympic way but I think it would be cool and a bigger deal

Movie was pretty good. Cinematography was incredible. Makes me wanna go for a hike and bring my camera.
Leo was a savage. :x

I finally got the chance to see this and I was not disappointed. The cinematography was simply beautiful. That bear scene was something else. I really hope the academy rewards Leo with an Oscar for his performance.

Saw this last night. Story had flaws but acting was superb.
This direct and cinematographer can do no wrong at the moment. Watched on a good screen and want to see it again in imax blazed

Finally saw this movie yesterday

It was a masterpiece.

Everyone involved in this movie should get an Oscar

Cinematically a great movie.

Close to historical accuracy - not so much.

Gleeson had an awesome 2015. Ex Machina, Star Wars, and The Revenant is a great trio of movies to be in.

What's so great about it is he's a chameleon in each of these. Took me a sec to realize the main character in Ex Machina is the commander dude in the First Order and the leader of this fur trapping group in TR.

He was in Brooklyn too which is probably the best movie of those mentioned
Brooklyn which I believe is a love story is better than Ex Machina and The Revenant?

I wouldn't say better but I enjoyed it more.

Just noticed Domhall was that fake robot dude In one of those Black Mirror episodes too

Just finished watching this. Hell of a film. I usually don't give a **** about cinematography, but the visuals were like nothing I've ever seen. Absolutely stunning. The acting was a sidebar to how beautiful the film was. Speaking of the acting, I also thought Tom Hardy stole the show. Him and his accent were fantastic.

*I was  when Fitzgerald got his fingers chopped off, he looked at the damage, and then sounded like Peyton Manning (yelling at Donald Brown) when he said "God Damn It."

I remember a quote that went something like a great film shows the pain it took to make it or the love/joy it took, but nothing in between, and this film certainly allowed you to feel the pain it took to make it. However, it was also painful for me to watch at times. I don't know maybe it was a tired/lazy day and I also worked up an appetite while watching it, but I dozed off countless times and zoned out into completely different frames of thought. I didn't feel attachment or investment in the characters.

It definitely deserved the Oscar for best director, but I was expecting more of the film as a whole. I'll probably watch it again some day, but it reminds me of 2 other films that received major buzz from critics but left me disappointed. One is the assassin which came out recently (although supposedly the film assumes the audience knows the ancient Chinese story behind it beforehand which I didn't,) but it was a lot of long drawn out visually stunning scenes without enough compelling dialogue.

I was a bit alarmed recently when I said I was looking forward to watching this soon and my cousin who loves there will be blood said it's amazing. It reminded me of many of the things I didn't like about that film either.

And I get it. That in order to properly catch the cold desolation and holding on to survival that Leo's character endured, it's best presented through silence and drawn out scenes that even make you question if the room you're watching it in got chillier. But it doesn't change the fact that in doing that you can accidentally make something boring and difficult to pay attention to. Of course fans of the film will say that it reflects more of my lack of maturity as a viewer, and it'll make them feel great for being able to appreciate things better than I can. But yea this movie just couldn't keep my attention well enough.
