Nike has conditioned us to believe that flyknit is a premium material. It's pieces of yarn woven together to be a support for a shoe.
Let's be real.. There's nothing premium about it. It comes down to what looks better. Flyknit looks better than a piece of mesh because it's different.. But both materials need to be reinforced correctly for basketball purposes.
I like both in their own ways. Hopefully I'll have the chance to get some EM IDs this summer.
Until there is proof or study that flyknit is all a gimmick, I will pay the $40 premium. It's like leather in a car, sure you can still sit in the seat without it but if it feels better to you then that's all that matters, you pay the premium. To me $40 isn't a big deal. If I'm spending 160 on a shoe then what's 200? I'm curious to know for those that have said the EM is superior for playing in, in what way? I've seen a pair of XI EMs in hand and also noticed that the ankle collar padding is about half as thick as the Elite version. So, flyknit, heel zoom and more padding around the ankle, what make the EM better other than being $40 cheaper?
