Bhz you're my man and I ain't tryna be a jerk but man you're squad is so unappealing bro

no offense taken

i think my squad got everything needed to win now and be good enough to contend over the next 2-3 years. just a quick run down of my starters...

Chris Paul - #4 in WAR, #7 in RPM and #7 in PER
Kentavious Caldwell Pope - probably the next guy to get paid big money and will probably be a little better than just a 3D guy
Rudy Gay - #8 amongst SF's in ORPM, had an efficient season last year and will be a nice complement to CP3 (will avg 20ppg)
Amir Johnson - analytics love him. great in the pick n roll, can protect the rim, will play a lot of C for me
Jusuf Nurkic - was #3 last season amongst centers in DRPM. a beast on the boards. still learning some things, but definitely good enough to start and protect the rim

nice combination of youth, athleticism, veterans and i'm not even done with the team, yet  . you need an elite rim protector, a star capable of taking over (not to mention rudy can score in the clutch), a good defense and good offense. i got 4 good defenders in the starting 5 and rudy. but, a lot of people don't care much for cp3 and rudy on here, so its understandable

rudy is a top 20 player on NBA 2k too :nerd:

Really agonized over this more than I should, but I'm a risk taker so what the hell.

PG Zach LaVine

Yes, playing him at PG. For now.

with the 129th Pick, the Detroit Pistons select, Kevin Martin - Shooting Guard

If you want a stat filled explanation of each pick...

1st Round took Blake.. Best Available Superstar. Wanted Boogie or CP3, but they were gone 7 & 8, Blake was 9th on my draft board, I had the 9th pick.

2nd Round took Middleton.. He really was the best player on the Bucks last year. Effectively guarded the 2, 3 & 4. But putting him at a 3 because he was better offensively. Shot 40% from 3 the last 2 seasons. He held SFs to a 9.8 PER, and a 40.4 eFG%. That's ridiculous defense. I had Russell in mind for Round 3, and two things I saw that I was extremely happy about.

In transition 1.21 Points Per Possession, 17% of his offense, 72nd Percentile

Spot up Shooter 1.2 Points Per Possession, 25% of offense, 93rd Percentile

Khris shoots 47% & 56% from left and right corner, respectively.

3rd Round... I needed a PG. Wanted someone who could push the tempo, pass, find Blake from anywhere on the floor, and wasn't a liable when shooting. Could have taken Dragic or Lowry, but I see something in Russell that will work well with Blake. Have concerns about his defense, but mainly against the elite guards. Think against non-elite guards, he can be really good on defense. Also he had the 2nd highest per-40 rebounding rate among guards in DX's Top 100 Prospects. He could easily be a 12-5-5 guy first year, and shoot a solid percentage. First couple months would be rough, but he'll learn. He has a good Basketball IQ.

4th Round.. Absolutely had to had to had to get a Center. I originally was going to pick Roy Hibbert because I needed the defense, and he's a Top 3-4 Rim Protector in the league. But the lack of offense was too much for me to ignore. So I went with Robin Lopez. Lopez is a good defender, when defending shots shorter than 6 feet, and shots shorter than 10 feet, shooters shoot 5% worse. He's a solid offensive player, and works best in the Pick & Roll. Where D'Angelo Russell was in the 91st Percentile as Pick & Roll Ballhandler. By far most polished guard in P&R in the draft. For Lopez, the Pick & Role is 27.6% of his offense, he gets 1.17 PPP (Points per possession), that's the 86th percentile.

Although it's a extremely insignificant part of his offense, only 3%.. In transition, 1.35 PPP, 90th Percentile.

Final thing I liked about Robin was he's a very solid offensive rebounder. In the past couple of years, Blake has slipped as a defensive Rebounder due to DeAndre, but before DeAndre came into becoming a defensive rebounding god, Blake was a very good defensive rebounder, as DJ got more play, Blake's defensive rebound opportunities decreased. Lopez is a mediocre Defensive Rebounder. Blake is a mediocre offensive rebounder. So they'll have to play off each other on the glass.

And if I took Hibbert, I'd have better rim protection, but a worse offense, and the same rebounding conundrum.

5th Round... Kevin Martin... Only drafting him because injuries are off, and you guys won't allow me to put Blake Griffin Ultra (Julius Randle) with Blake Griffin Lite (Actual Blake Griffin). Same premise, I was drafting who fits. Kevin Martin 1.25 PPP / 79th Percentile in Transition, 1.09 PPP / 80th Percentile in Spot Up Shooting.

He can score his asterisk off. He's a weak defender, but I could always just swap him and Middleton if need be on defense. Not sure how many times I'd actually need to do that. Maybe 4-5 players at the 2, who I'd be concerned with him guarding.

Kevin shot 62% from the left corner, but only on 32 shot attempts

Heavy Pick & Roll team a solid Pick & Roll Ballhandler, a solid Roll Man. 2 shooters waiting one in the corner, one floating on the wing. And Blake can catch easy lobs when Russell draws in the defense.

This is a Stan Van Gundy team.
