Patterson was going to be my next pick if he made it to me. Good pick for sure

midas whale talk about why i picked who i did

1st pick: Chris Paul; considered Demarcus Cousins

Probably the last current superstar talent left based on where I picked. I was considering Cousins, but felt like getting a guy on the perimeter that I could rely on to make big shots and big plays was more important. Plus, with the type of team I was looking to construct, I needed a definite leader and a guard that didn't commit a lot of turnovers. If I took Cousins, my 2nd pick was going to be (of course) Mike Conley.

2nd pick: Jusuf Nurkic; wanted Khris Middleton

I think this guy is the goods. He's a monster on the boards, a beast in the paint defensively. My only concern with him is foul trouble, but he's very young and I think a guy like Paul will only make him better. I could've probably waited and picked a center in one of the later rounds, but the guys I wanted with my 2nd pick were all gone. I went with the 20 year old. I knew once I selected him, I needed to add more versatility in the frontcourt which leads me into my next pick.

3rd pick: Rudy Gay

I think he gave me good value in the 3rd round. A 20ppg scorer and has improved his efficiency since joining Sacramento. He's a beast in NBA 2k and gives me another go to option in crunch time. He's also capable of playing the PF position, which he will probably see a lot of next season in SAC. He would also fit well with CP3

4th pick: Amir Johnson

I needed a glue guy. Any knowledgeable basketball head will know what Amir brings to the table. He basically does a little bit of everything at PF and can play the 5 in stretches. He's not going to wow you in the statistical department, but he's going to make smart plays and help cover the paint.

5th pick: Kentavious Caldwell-Pope

I feel like he's capable of being my 2nd or 3rd best player. I'm expecting big things out of him next year and consider him a guy similar to a Kerry Kittles. He's an underrated defender and I'm expecting him to improve his jumper. Definitely one of my favorite players on the squad. Only 22 years old as well.

Star, 3D guy, secondary scorer, glue guy, defensive anchor

Once I solidified that, I wanted a bench of guys I know could put the ball in the hoop. Nick Young can definitely shoot the rock and in the right role off the bench on a winning team, I'm expecting him to shoot a bunch of 3's at a good clip (37-39%). If we are using real coaches, Brad Stevens should use him correctly. He also gives me another scorer that can come in and light it up.

Patrick Patterson can also shoot it from deep. Made over 100 3's last season at 37%. Complements both of my bigs well. He can rebound, defend, athletic and can shoot the 3. I've actually been thinking about starting him over Amir, but I'll wait and see how the rest of the draft plays out. Patterson was also apart of one of the best bench units in the NBA last year.

NBA 2k ratings based off what I saw last year...

Paul - 90
KCP - maybe 78
Gay - 82
Amir - 78
Nurkic - 76

Young - 78
Patterson - 75

Mostly if your guy is in the high 70's, that's starter range.

with the 189th pick, the Detroit Pistons select Cory Joseph - PG.

Why I took Splitter:

He was my 1st choice in the 4th round, but Robin Lopez took his spot because he was a better fit with Russell & Blake. Also Henson overtook Splitter due to defense, but FF took him. So back to my original idea for Round 4.

Splitter is a good efficient player. Doesn't do one thing extremely great, but a lot of different things that he does well.

In transition he's a 1.31 PPP, 9% of his offense, 86 percentile
Post Up 1.07, 20% of his offense, 92 percentile.

Quality passer.

His defense is above average, 3% better FG% from less than 6 feet, and less than 10 feet.

His offensive per 100 is 104.7, defense is 93.9.

Why I took Joseph:

Not number one on my board over the 5 positions, but the position is more of a need, and not sure how much I like the available PGs in 40+ picks. Just like Center was biggest need off the bench based on my starting 5. PG is 2nd biggest need because of Russell's youth. Joseph is a quality backup. Smart player. Makes the right plays.

Each year he has improved.

He's right at the average point in transition, which is fine, spot up shooter 60th percentile, as a ball handler in the pick and roll he's in the 75th percentile, and in isolation he's in the 88th percentile.

His defense is above average, and he's pesky.
