Anyone live a minimalist lifestyle?

I realize I sort of push to live in a minimalist way. I'm against consuming for greed and not necessity. I'm contemplating downgrading to a keyboard blackberry from my note 4 tomorrow and It would be my biggest step in the direction I feel I want to move. It is extremely scary though, I'm fairly addicted to my phone and just hope I don't regret it.

Anyone taken any leaps to live this lifestyle?

Blackberry isnt minimalist. Its just a smartphone phone with a hardware keyboard.  This wont accomplish anything but make you less productive and efficient in life.  Many others way of cutting the excess.

Are you having trouble with the ladies?  Odd choice to make here.

I do not live a minimalist lifestyle by any means, however when I spend time on weekends or for a week at our cabin (no tv, very secluded, no AC/Heat, no wifi, sketchy cell service, etc.) I get a sense of the lifestyle and my tolerance for how long I can go without certain things I take for granted in my day to day life.

Just moved into my new spot and I've been living without television. Haven't missed it one bit, although i don't know if you'd consider that being minimalist

I have 0 trouble with women these days.

start off with deleting your niketalk account

I come on here pretty rarely.

 at the biggest step being downgrading to a blackberry.

I think its good to cut things off for a week or two if you feel like it's become so habitual that you feel you might be addicted to it.

Well I ride a bike instead of a car. I don't watch TV. I haven't bought new shoes for 6 months and those shoes were for my job. New clothes like once a year. This isn't my only step in the minimalist direction.

It's an old blackberry phone. My problem is browsing the Web on my phone not texting so yes it would be a step in the right direction. Browsing youtube and websites on a blackberry is horrible and the one I have only receives 3g.

Nevermind the thread figured this was the wrong place to discuss. The materialism and judgment on this site has always been ridiculous. I'll see you guys in a few months when I'm back.

Caught feelings quicc as hell...dudes just messing w/ you OP.  I'm sure it's a handful of folks on here living a semi-minimilastic lifestyle.  But you can't expect to post that you getting a blaccberry as a downgrade is you on your way to minimalist.  Try getting a burner, only put minutes on it when you need to make a call.  Or better yet see how long you can go with no phone

while downgrading to a blackberry might not be "minimalist" it is a step in the right direction if you're looking to get rid of constant web browsing on your phone.

i have been trying to live a more ecologically responsible lifestyle, which i think corresponds with what you're looking to do. to me, our culture of consumerism is somewhat nauseating.

things that i have done
- walking instead of driving when possible
- conciously reduce the amount of products i buy with unnecessary packaging
- eating fresh, non-processed foods

would like to start growing my own produce and getting some chickens for eggs too

good thread OP

Nah b I feel you OP. I had an iPhone 6 but broke it and began using my old Blackberry Curve as a replacementand I love it. I'm not always on my phone or consumed by IG, Twitter, and snapchat and it keeps me sane. I get to spend time doing other **** like reading books on my ipad or actually having a convo without being consumed with my phone. I only use my BB for texts and calls like the old days

Whenever i get back from the motherland it makes me appreciate the things i have more.
Makes me realize that i don't really NEED any of them.
I would sell my phone, sell my shoes, sell my laptop.
But then after some time of living like that. I had the need to get it all back.

I'm sorry but is there anything more minimalist that an iPhone? (smartphone) It literally eliminates the need for so much clutter in your home with 1 device. I prefer my iPad for ebooks, but it can replace a lot of things like books, apps email. I feel the better move would be to get rid of your computer.....

I have been pursuing the minimal lifestyle for several years, and it is not easy , but it is satisfying. I'll share a few of my processes and feel free to pm me if you feel the need...

EVERYTIME I do wash, I question whether or not I need the item I am washing after it is cleaned. This helps keep my clothing total to a minimum.

I purchase more universal, well-made. Expensive clothing. Lets be honest, we all where 4 shirts and pants in our closets. Its just a matter of acknowledging the items you actually wear. The more expensive your clothing, the better care you take, and the longer they last, and the less you need.

Workspace/living space always clean. This has had a profound effect on my thought processes. I was always a clean person, but not the most tidy. I had to train myself to clean my apartment everyday for 15 or so minutes. This helped to create the feeling of order all the time.

Functionality over fashion. Functionality has to take precedent over how something looks. For instance, I went shopping the other day and found an Armani shirt on sale for 140$. I'm talking perfect fit, my size, could wear it to work ect....I instead bought a pack of undershirts and socks because I knew they were far more functional for me at this point in my life.

It's tedious, boring decisions like this that are far more important to living a minimal lifestyle than your cell phone choice.

I respect the minimal life but i mean you only get 1 life(maybe) so why not live dat maximum life.

Trust me opee i have lived dat minimal life and it really really really sucks.

I'm living a lifestyle to retire early. I want to enjoy my youth instead of working until 65.

Got rid of 80 percent of my clothes. Pullin bops with no cell the last month, even before that no smart phone straight burner phone. Gave up drank. As i've gotten older less=better. I mentally can't handle hella things, if I could maybe this minimalist thing wouldn't matter. But its helped me mentally.
