You can argue that the Chargers were apart of the original AFL too. Hell, all AFC West teams were apart of the AFL.  Al would never leave the AFC for any stadium, which is why this is such a Mark Davis move...

If anything, I see it playing out like this - 3 teams in LA. Rams get their own stadium. Raiders & Chargers share a stadium. Rams move to AFC West and either Raiders or Chargers are moving to NFC West.

Raiders to the NFC?! Naw man. That would be a kick in the gut. I understand and can deal with relocating but switching conferences I can't deal with...

Cooper also had a few surprising drops during Camp

But Crabtree with this one year deal actually looks solid

Raiders in the NFC all wrong man all wrong Oakland gotta make something happen, the timing of all this is terrible to especially with the Real Estate boom taking place out here :smh:

Mark Davis lookin like an alien out here tho

LA couldn't support 2 NFL teams in late 80s/ Early 90s, that's why they left but NFL is going to give them 3 teams?

Hope it's ram and chargers

watching the game on delay.

Surprised CARB hast tried to shut down the Al Davis memorial flame.

like what I see so far. A little miscommunication/bad decision in that second drive. But like what I see.

Raiders top Rams in exhibition opener

The people who pay their hard-earned money to come to a preseason game don’t ask for much. No injuries, star player appearances, a couple of reasons to get excited, and a new face or two to tell the guys and girls at work about.

Raiders fans looked at their list after Friday night’s preseason opener and check, check, check and check. And their team won as well, beating the St. Louis Rams 18-3 at the Oakland Coliseum.

New receivers Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree showed some flash during first-quarter appearances, and defensive end Khalil Mack ran circles around St. Louis blockers. Backup quarterback Christian Ponder looked very good on his touchdown drive, and rookie tight end Clive Walford and linebacker Ben Heeney showed big-play ability.

“It’s just a start, and we know we have things to correct,” first-year coach Jack Del Rio said, “but we were physical in the trenches and we weren’t penalized a lot.”

Only two times for 22 yards, in fact.

“It was a crisp night, and that’s what we’re looking to have,” Del Rio said.

Del Rio is 1-0 and had to be pleased with his coordinators, Bill Musgrave (offense) and Ken Norton Jr. (defense).

Musgrave dropped the hammer with running back Latavius Murray gaining 35 yards on six carries, put also mixed up his play-calling. He even threw in an end around to Cooper, which had fans holding their breath a little bit.

As for Norton, he hopes the defense takes on his personality, and some of that nonstop aggressiveness and joy for the game did come out a little bit.

Second-year defensive end Shelby Harris was smiling ear to ear after he got a sack, thanks in large part to the efforts of Mack.

“We had an inside stunt and (rookie) Mario (Edwards) set the tone and shot that inside gap,” Harris said. “Khalil then took the tackle all the way back up to Napa. They deserve all the credit.”

Coaches love talking points for their players, and there were some of those. Starting quarterback Derek Carr and Ponder each threw an interception, with Carr staring down Cooper and Ponder basically throwing the ball up for grabs on a 4th-and-8 play.

Carr finished 6-of-9 for 43 yards, with his longest pass a 15-yarder to Crabtree.

“I thought Derek was really sharp, just a communication breakdown on the interception,” Del Rio said. “We’ll get that cleaned up. I thought all the quarterbacks did a good job.”

On defense, the Raiders gave up first downs on two 3rd-and-1 plays, with starting defensive tackles Dan Williams and Justin Ellis — “Meat and Potatoes” — getting eaten up on the first one. Oakland also gave up a first down on 4th-and-1, and coaches probably aren’t going to love backup safety Jonathan Dowling celebrating his big hit after a 9-yard gain.

Ponder had a lot to celebrate after a shaky couple of weeks at training camp. The former Viking must have been saving it for the lights, as he completed 6 of 8 passes for 59 yards and ran once for 10 yards. He fit in a nice 22-yard pass to Walford and later completed a 3-yard touchdown pass to Andre Holmes.

Matt McGloin, not to be outdone, fired a 16-yard touchdown pass to Brice Butler. Butler had a nice night, with six catches for 57 yards, as he tries to hold off Kris Durham and Seth Roberts for a roster spot.

The race for the backup running back spot didn’t get off to a rousing start. Trent Richardson had 18 yards on five carries, Taiwan Jones had 15 yards on three carries and Michael Dyer finished with 11 yards on five carries.

3 of note

1. Khalil Mack: The defensive end was a dominant force, and backup end Shelby Harris can call home and say he got a sack because Mack ran the Rams OL ragged on the play.

2. Latavius Murray: The Raiders’ bell cow running back showed the ability to bounce a run outside for 17 yards, and also showed his power and balance inside. Moving up fantasy football boards quickly.

3. Ben Heeney: The undersized rookie LB stopped a run, chased the quarterback for a sack and showed a sideline-to-sideline roaming ability that might make those above him on the depth chart a little nervous.
