Bredren, been biting all my life. In fact, I had a nasty habit of biting the skin around my middle fingers and the palm side of my thumb. That embarrassment is long gone, but the incessant nail biting keeps me self-conscious around people.

I've gone cold turkey for exactly a week and this **** really feels like mild withdrawals. Fidgeting, uneasiness, craving, and I may be delusional, but I think I shake a little thinking about it.

How'd you quit? And if not, do you want to or give zero dambs about it?

I've tried the bitter nail coating and band-aids. Too much to keep up with.

You make it sound like your biteing n gnawing 24/7 B.

Is it just when your around people or ?? Next time you feel your cravings chat with yourself n find out what triggered you.

Once you recognize those triggers you can make that conscious choice to bite or not bite.

Its all self control bruh..Harness it.  I used to nibble alot when in thought, then it went chewing my inner cheek tissue and im comfortable with that.

But OP, think about all the things you touch daily and how many times you wash your hands. That should immediately get you to stop biting your nails.

I was a nail biter starting back when I was probably like 4.

You know what got me to stop after nearly 15+ years???

Buying a nail clipper.

No joke

Honest to god, this solution worked for me: wear a rubber band around your wrist. Anytime you feel the urge to bite your nails, snap the rubber band instead.

Within a couple weeks I was done biting my nails.

Hahahaha
I give no damnZ about biting my nails.
I don't see anything wrong with it.
My dentist said I shouldn't do if. I tried stoping and it felt crazy wierd.
And no I ain't snapping no damn rubber band

I've been doing it my entire life since i was 5. I've stopped for about 2 weeks a couple times, but all it takes is 30 minutes for them to go back to the way they were.
I just get nervous, anxious, and worried. I just don't know about what exactly. I am fine. I'm in good health. My family is good. My life is good. I just don't understand it.

Im going to try the rubber band method.
i've tried the coating but I wear contacts so Im always touching my contacts everyday and don't want to risk my eyes in any way w/ that stuff.

it's an unconscious, doing nothing state, that triggers my biting. I usually realize I'm biting and either stop or just keep going depending on my mood.

The rubber band seems easy enough to try. Thanks dmbrhs dmbrhs

joe cool23 joe cool23 , was it the actual buying of the nail clippers or simply having it? I have one and well yea, no success.

Now see....when that usuallly realize step happens ya gotta walk backward in your thoughts n envision your trigger.  If you burn it should be even easier to accomplish, youll feel it when you see it.  Once you see it and if you really want to stop its cake from there on out.  Real talk this aint no hipnotizm n ****.

Same here been doing it since 4 my mom says. I've stopped a few times but it's been years since the last time. Me and my younger brother do it (same father different mothers) my mom blames it on our bad nerves *shrugs*. It's a very bad habit that I need to stop. Will try the rubber band method, I have also been thinking about getting a stress reliever to use at work.

I used to bite mine really bad, as well as the skin on my finger tips. Got worse when I started smoking cigs.

I essentially quit for a long time and now I do it very very rarely, and mostly only in the shower.

I just stopped one day. Honestly that same day I did a fat mushroom dose. The dose also made cigs taste like poison and made me throw up when I smoked one.

My kid bites her nails and I'm working on helping her cut back at the least. Started getting her manicure supplies and stuff. Maybe you should try getting a manicure every so often.

It's a nervous habit for me.
If I'm deep in thought or anxious about something, I bite my nails.
Every time my wife sees me doing it, she slaps my hands[emoji]128557[/emoji][emoji]128557[/emoji]
But when she leave, I be doing it again[emoji]128518[/emoji]

I feel ya OP, been a nail biter for as long as I remember. I put this clear nail polish that makes it taste nasty and it has help. I hate the habit.

I just bite em like every 3 weeks when they need to be cut. Broke the daily habit. I bite better than the clipper

I used to be a biter but nowhere near as bad as the pic bendover bendover posted. Idk how but I just stopped and now have nice manicured nails :pimp:

S/O if you were biting on your nail when you came upon this thread

Mines look fine though.. Pull back the second I feel contact and I bite extremely lightly.

Nails still look fine, luckily.

Do need to kick this habit.. Noticed I only do it when im at work and sitting at my desk bored.

And occasionally at home if im reading a long article.

buy a file and clipper....

and always have them with you

or...

find a super hot chick that doesn't tolerate it and gives good wop

thats what motivated me to finally stop. chick was a nail tech lol

I don't bite my nails, but I have a bad habit of biting the skin around my nails.

I bought one of these small Victorinox knives with scissors off eBay and carry it on my keychain. I have this silver one:

The scissors are tiny and perfect for precision trimming of nails and skin around nails. Since I got it, I always use it ahead of my teeth because they it does a better job, so that would be my #1 advice for kicking the habit.
