$100million on alcohol addiction and failed restaurant is now working at STARBUCKS

starbucks doesn't currently offer franchises in the united states to individuals, maybe he's becoming a store manager or this is something special that howard shultz is doing for him because of his personal relationship with him?

Pretty sure he's getting taken care of by Schultz on this one. Or else he wouldn't be mentioned so prominently in the stories.

damn. I still can't believe how some people can blow 100 +million.

I'd do wonders with just one million.

Stupidity

I remember I read something about a dude winning the lotto (not even that much honestly) and he did something foolish like build a one bedroom house with like a 6 car garage. His mom lived a few states over, and he would regularly fly her over in a private jet.

Then wondered how he was broke just a few years later...

If you aint never had *** and someone give you 50 mill....its like all the money in the world to them.

crazy...my brother was addicted to alcohol and prescription pills for about 10 years before he got sober...he works at starbucks as well...my brother didn't have no damn 100 mill though...jeez...

He's making an honest living. Nothing wrong with that. He still has potential to increase earning power due to his experience as a pro basketball player.

Yea def, and I'm not throwing shots or laughing at him at all hopefully he can bounce back on a decent level.

I think he can too.

I wish you a full recovery man.

I hate the "If I were him..." kind of people because they rarely take into account the person's circumstances and most of the time you really can't say what you would do unless you were in that situation.

BUT...how hard is it to just take you 100 mill, buy a nice 2-5 mill house, and just lay up with the wife and just chill. Have some kids, go play some ball in you free time, find a chill hobby, a cool tv show. I mean damn you could blow 50 mill on expensive toys, cars, a house, etc and still have another 50 mill as a cushion. I really just don't understand how this happens. You literally have TRY to go broke at that point.

@Olympus  he probably had other factors like family and friends in his pockets as well, might've had to pay child support for years and invested into some failed businesses.

I think we're gunna see a lot less of these stories going forward at this scale

Was it $100 mil before taxes and other fees? The contract amount is always confused with what's actually left tho. Regardless of all that, it could still be much worse.

As much as people bash the Internet and social media generation's lack of life experience, the access to knowledge and just overall shrinking of the world from being interconnected to everyone has in a sense broadened a lot of people's horizons and outlooks to think outside of where they were from, even before they leave their hood. So there's a lack of certain experiences in life, but it's more than made up for with the wealth of other knowledge people get. I think the world outside of someone's neighborhood is much less of a shock nowadays to these athletes and they come in more aware and ready to deal with this life. Obviously it's still crazy, but imo it tempers it a little.

Also, using the dudes who came before's mistakes as sort of the template of what not to do, and the fact that this stuff can actually happen will keep less of these things from happening at this scale.

All that If I had 100 million talk is all hypothetical and doesn't mean much.  You never know how you'll react until it happens.  So until any of you comes into money on that level you can't really make a statement like that

he got 100mill total through his career...

taxes probably put him around 55mill take home.

if you factor in property taxes, living the high life, excessive drugs and alchohol... It's easy to run through 55mill in 10-15 years

matter of fact... you idea that you could spend 50 mill on cars, house, etc. and live off 50 mill is EXACTLY how cats go broke...

the proeperty taxes + maintenance + living expenses + insurance etc. will eat through your money if you have 50million worth of static and depreciating assets
