2015 NFC North Trash Talk Thread: GB loses Div Rd, MIN loses WC Rd, DET/CHI N/A

How's it sound like that 651?

The only player that the towel would be thrown in for is Rodgers.

You're a gambling man, take a look at whether or not Jordy's knee exploding changes Vegas' lines for Pack over/under for wins this year or early season games.  I bet it doesn't even move.

Not because Jordy isn't a key part of the offense but because the only WR I know in recent years that would really affect that kind of stuff would be Calvin when he was putting up numbers with Dan Orlovsky types at QB.  Without him I don't think they would have scored at all.

It just does through the computer screen.

I doubt you're too concerned in reality without any other NFCN having stepped up thus far and you still have Rodgers, as you say.

Their offense will be okay. However, it could hurt in a few games against teams that have an above average secondary. That's one less guy you need to worry about, which dedicates more time for Cobb and now Adams.

Yea I'm not at all saying Jordy isn't a great player, but Davante has earned Rodgers trust, clearly and most report that hes been a stud at camp. So I expect him to step up.

Rodgers going down is the only player I'd panic about being injured.  It won't be the same offense, surely... But I think they'll manage well enough if his knee is indeed Jello.

Bears legit might have the #1 pick.

If Jay Cutler goes down there's a high chance they'd be in the Top 3. Team's already packing a dreadful secondary that will be eaten alive again this year, and if Jimmy Clausen is tasked with throwing them back into high-scoring games... :x

Really don't know how they're going into this season without a better backup quarterback than him.

Clausen might be starting by Game 3

John Fox went out and got Jimmy Clausen, somebody he had in Carolina... but doesn't it feel like he went out and got the backup QB who will guarantee them a pick in the top 1-3 by playing his best football if the starter goes down?

Same with Cleveland. You don't go out and get Josh McCown and HAND him the starting job... after he quarterbacked the worst offense in the league the year before. Like, how the **** do you throw 11 TD and 14 INT with Vincent Jackson and Mike Evans? HOW is that possible?

Clausen was with Chicago last year, Cutler got benched and he got the start in the 2nd match up against us. He played straight too, he would've finished the season as the starter if he didn't get that concussion

Yeah, I was thinking that. He got some action with Chicago last year and was decent in the game he started. It wasn't a wow performance, but definitely what you look for in a backup. Kept them in the game and had a couple TD tosses.

****, my mistake. For some reason I had only David Fales and Jordan Palmer in my mind for their backups last year.

In 2010, Clausen was top 10 in the NFL in # of times sacked, sack yards lost, fumbles, and the best one, fumbles recovered (a lot of QBs are in the top 10 for that, but it's always  )

Glover Quin: Don’t blame the preseason, God meant for Jordy Nelson to get hurt

When Packers receiver Jordy Nelson suffered a serious knee injury in Sunday’s preseason game, it intensified the already prevalent questions around the league about whether it’s time to cut back on the preseason. But one NFL player believes that there’s no point in doing that.

Lions safety Glover Quin said today that God will decide every player’s fate, and changing the NFL’s preseason schedule can’t change that.

“I hated Jordy got hurt, but in my beliefs, and the way I believe, it was — God meant for Jordy to get hurt,” Quin said. “So if he wouldn’t have got hurt today, if he wouldn’t have played in that game, if he wouldn’t have practiced anymore, and the next time he walked on the field would have been opening day, I feel like he would have got hurt opening day. So in that sense, now they’ve got three weeks to make adjustments and prepare before opening day, as opposed to it happening opening day and now you’re in the season and now Jordy gets hurt. It happening in the preseason, you hate that it happened, but that gives them time to make adjustments and try to find something.”

Quin is entitled to believe that God decides everything that will happen on a football field, but if we follow his logic, where do we stop? Should the NFL not bother with any player safety rules because God will decide which players get hurt? Should NFL teams not bother having doctors on the sidelines because God will decide which players to heal?

Although Quin made clear that he respects Nelson and feels badly for any fellow player who gets hurt, his comments don’t make a lot of sense. The NFL has an obligation to take steps to keep players safe, and it would be wrong for the league to simply shrug off injuries as God’s will.

As usual, the first-team offense is starting indoors. Jeff Janis is not with them. He's outside with scout team. Montgomery with first shot.

Tempers boiled over in #Vikings practice today when CB Josh Thomas apparently got mad & wrestled WR Donte Foster on ground until 2 separated

@ProFootballTalk: Ndamukong Suh: Dolphins have more defensive talent than Lions did last year http://t.co/nj5GmrapUl

They do have the SneakerPro's DPOY pick...

Because you somehow think that he will flourish enough to become DPOY in the first year after leaving Detroit...

... and you believe Detroit won't be majorly impacted by his departure.

at da same damn time. that's why.

If Haloti Ngata wasn't a Lion this would be make sense

Ngata was elite when playing the 3 tech and versatile enough to move around

Is he Suh? No

Are him and Walker good enough to keep the Lions a top 8 defense?

Yes

Letroy Guion’s three-game suspension is upheld

Posted by Mike Florio on August 27, 2015, 3:59 PM EDT

Packers defensive lineman Letroy Guion was suspended three games by the NFL under the substance-abuse policy. He had appeal rights under a procedure that, as of September 2014, removed final say from the league office and exported it to an external panel.

The panel has now spoken, and the appeal has been upheld — only three days after a hearing on the situation.

The league has announced that Guion will miss the first three games without pay of the 2015 regular season. He’ll be eligible to return after the September 28 game against the Chiefs. The suspension begins following the preseason finale.

Guion was arrested in February on marijuana charges. He eventually reached a plea deal in the case.

Packers linebacker Datone Jones also has been suspended for the first game of the 2015 season for violation of the substance-abuse policy.
