When I look at some of these ridiculous comments about the likes of Rooney or Hazard..it just reminds me of why I should only enter this thread around match days.... :smh:

You think this is bad?

Go in the NBA season thread during the playoffs on an off night.

Not just the playoffs, the off-season NBA thread gets just as bad

I lurked like most before joining NT and I know enough about the NBA threads to know i'm not commenting in any NBA thread until the season starts

Oh word? If we consider players like Drogba, Henry and others to be legends, what's wrong with calling Rooney one? (Not taking anything away from those guys, they are legends imo) Dude is gonna end up as the all time scorer for both club and country on top of winning literally everything in club football...cmon Coupe . I'm not arguing that he's ever been at the Ronnie/Messi level,I never believed that myself but he was top 5 at one point imo. A countries best player in a generation usually ends up being considered legend status...no matter how much you hate the country or what it stands for .

He's scored 20 more than twice though ,you probably meant 20 in the league. His goal numbers could've been higher imo but he played in attack with some of the best attackers of his generation (RVN,Ronnie,Tevez) so the goal scoring duties were always shared during most of his prime.

I know I don't have much of a leg to stand on given the current incarnation of Wazza that we see but still...

So I guess our definitions of the word "Legend" is different then. I'm looking at it from a "world of football" point of view, you're looking at it from a club/country point of view.

Henry is a Footballing Legend, one of the greatest to ever grace the field in the EPL. Rooney isn't, but I guess he is a United/England legend from your opinion? I guess I can't argue that, but I can argue it from a world-class point of view.

I don't even know how Hazard got into the conversation, he's not on the poll. It was a healthy debate with Rooney and the rest of the dudes on the list but then it got overboard.

I don't mind it tho, if you have an opinion share it, bring it to the table - but all this "he's trash" talk is childish, I'm with you there.

Damn meant to post that goal last night,so filthy :x . He carried them to the playoffs for the first time in their history and is the leading scorer and assist maker in the league right now...won't surprise me if he's called up on loan by a big Euro club this Winter. He's also been killing it for the Azzurri internationally so I'd say it'd be well deserved

Giovinco's already the MLS GOAT

I hope he stays. He is good for the MLS.

We need more players like him over here

"Legend" to me is someone that has accomplished lot in terms of silverware/individual honors and has played at a high level for most of their careers. Club legends vary from just Legends imo. Club legends can be players that might not have been generally considered world class but they accomplished a lot and had big moments for a given club. They're usually the ones that fans create songs about after they're gone.

Given all he's won on top of being one of the best talents in the Prem of the last decade, Roo is a legend to me but I might be biased

. I truly believe that prime Wazza is one of the better players the premier league has seen. Guess that's where we agree to disagree

Klopp mania's starting with a limp...Gomez and Ings are out for the year

Found some telling comments from Romario on the state of Brazils #9's...
Romario on great Brazilian strikers: “It’s all in the past. Romario, Ronaldo, over. I can’t even name a good Brazilian striker these days.

At least, there wasn’t one in the last squad. To be honest, I don’t think there’s anyone fit to wear the #9 shirt.”
I sort of agree, the legit have no strikers right now compared to when they used to have some of the best around. Bet they really wish they had called up Costa for the confed cup last time around...
laugh.gif

He also went on to roast Thiago Silva claiming that he doesn't have the character to play for Brazil

This. He's still getting called up for his National Team and probably is having the time of his life in Toronto. Already broke the MLS all time record of goals+assists total in a season with 35+ last time I checked. He's probably close to 40 by now. I don't see why he would go back to Italy unless it was for more money and being homesick or something.

Wish Portland could attract some of these big name overseas talent. Our weather is like England and we have the Nike and Adidas HQ over here, does that not mean anything? :frown:

Overrating is relative.

I never said Hazard was trash.

But when your manager rates you in the level of Messi and Ronaldo, when fans say you're top 3 in the world......

You can be a very good player, but if people call you the goat but you're not, you're overrated

I get that, the silverware, the history of Rooney at United - he will be a United legend. They'll sing the songs and hang the banners. No denying that, he can never score a goal again and still be a United legend.

But try not a United fan for one second, is Wayne Rooney (all-around) a football legend? - The answer will have to be no, that's the point I was making. The same would go for Drogba since you mentioned him, he's a Chelsea legend. Henry is the perfect example tho of my definition - He is a footballing legend. I will tell my kids about Henry - we all should.

On to the present tho, Wayne Rooney is not even 30 yet. So talking about his prime makes it feel like we're talking about a dude whose 40 years old. This dude needs to start producing now!!! Be the United legend you need to be right now

I think Brazill will have to keep playing Neymar as a false 9, Costa on the left and Hulk/Willian on the right. I honestly cannot name one really good Brazilian striker outside of Luiz Adriano

Felipe Anderson and Coutinho deserves to get a call up too.

And shoutout to Deigo Costa, would of been his spot if he would of overlooked all the drama and politics that happen behind closed doors in the National Team Committee.

He could literally pull off everything skill wise at his peak though so I'd say yes. Long cannon shots, calm clinical finishes, acrobatic goals you name it. Plus he had a ridiculous motor  back then and never stopped running full speed it seemed
laugh.gif
.

No need to tell me
laugh.gif
,yea man you don't know how much it pains me to see his current form
mean.gif
. Think all that mileage and his playing style finally caught up with his body. I still want to see him snap out of it but we might be better off if he got dropped for Ander tbh...
ohwell.gif
.

Sucks to see his decline but it's not unprecedented,we all remember how fast 'Dinho fell off after being probably the most skilled player I ever saw before Messi. Sucks to see but it happens,it makes me appreciate the likes of Zlatan,Totti,Tevez and Ronnie that much more since they haven't really suffered a drastic decline in form as they've gotten older.

Think he'll need to wait a bit since Felipe Anderson has been anonymous this season for Lazio

,he was being linked to us constantly over the last year too

Neymar is that team and it kind of sucks tbh
laugh.gif
. Brazilian teams have always been just that, teams not just a group of individuals like they are now. They stink as a result, there's no cohesion or real team spirit it seems. Also don't know wth Dunga is doing back in charge...

Costa might not have made the smartest decision though,he rarely gets called up by Del Bosque as it is and Spain have some young talent at that position

Still my fav player but man it sucked seeing his downfall. Dude needs to sign up for MLS at this point...

Okay we'll just have to agree to disagree on Rooney being a footballing "legend" then , but I think the general consensus would be with me .

Dinho man, now that was a falloff. If he just kept his head on straight :smh: . I don't think it was the CoCo, I think it was the Coca-Cola. Dude gained so much weight and was so out of shape.

Rooney still looks good tho physically, IDK wtf is wrong with him. I'd start Ander in the number 10 position as well. You almost have to because the schedule is going to get real, real soon. But I got a question, Fergie didn't hesitate to bench Rooney when he'd underperform. Why doesn't LvG do the same? He's as old and arrogant as they come, it's like he's scared to drop Rooney, even for a game. That's weird to me.

Fair enough
laugh.gif
*shrugs*

Fergie gave no damns whatsoever when it came to underperforming stars
laugh.gif
. Thought LVG was the same given his treatment of ADM/RVP and others last season but most of the squad seems to be under a meritocracy except for Rooney. Guess he feels he has to stick with his captain but that probably just gives him a false sense of security knowing he's almost undroppable no matter how he performs. Dropping him would be a powerful message/wake up call sent to the dressing room and Rooney. Give the armband to Carrick/Mike in the meantime.

Given LVG's usual pragmatism,I'm quite surprised that he's stuck with Roo this long...

Yea I'm extremly surprised also. I thought if anyone was to get star treatment it would have been RvP since he's a countryman, but LvG shipped him off and didn't care.

Def would be a powerful message if he did drop him and we all know LvG loves his powerful messages. But it's still odd to me, knowing LvG - that it hasn't happened yet, could it be the hierarchy at United that are telling LvG they'd prefer if Rooney played? (due to marketing?) idk, I'm probably reaching but this has had me perplexed.

Carrick should be captain regardless, I always thought that - even if Rooney plays. Rooney to me never seemed captain worthy. Same way Ronaldo isn't. But let's be real here, the armband doesn't mean that much  and it def shouldn't stand in the way of Rooney getting benched.

Drogba, Rooney, and Henry lol.... Henry is the best striker in the premier league era... Guy was banging in 20 plus goals but also assisting in the teens... Henry has the record for most assists in a PL campaign. I know I'm biased but those two aren't legends overall, they definitely are at their respected clubs though.

Who gets a statue at United first

cristiano or wayne?

Not who should, who will.
