They said we didn't have a chance to top the group with Juve in it, they said we didn't have a chance in the quarters, they say we don't have a chance in the semis...lets hope this luck continues then.

Yea but this time it's different, it's Real Madrid - like ya'll really don't have a shot  Ya'll were some deer in headlights when you played Barca last year, believe me, it will be just as intimidating with Real. Juve and PSG don't have that type of "effect". Plus the Ronaldo "effect", on another note, I think Gareth Bale will feast even more so. Playing in England again, he'll be comfortable.

But who knows, I'll gladly take the quotes and gifs and eat my own words. Anything can happen in football, Chelsea won the CL in 2012 and they weren't the best team - but this is the semi's, two matches, I just don't see it happening. If it was one game, yea sure. Plus you know, Real playing at the Emptihad, I don't see the fans lifting City like the Wolfsburg fans did

But screenshot me anyways

Are you forgetting how Chelsea had to get through Barcelona that year? Pretty sure they had to play two matches.

That "affect" comment is laughable, City have players at the same caliber as Real Madrid. Their manager used to coach there as well. It took a Ronaldo performance for the ages for them to get through Wolfsburg, if Wolfsburg wasn't starstruck then Manchester City sure as hell won't be.

Chelsea weren't really a underdog against Barca that yr IMO. I know I sound crazy but Barca is the one club that I would want Chelsea to face in the knockout stages. The Chelsea teams of 02-15 were always too physical for Barca. That's why they needed they need Uefa to make sure they advanced in 09

They were a massive underdog. An unfavorable matchup for Barca? Yes, but an underdog nonetheless.

They were definitely a huge underdog, that was when peak Uefalona was in full effect for most to see word to Drogba

NOt sure if that was peak Uefalona. I think the peak was when that got that bs red card during a corner vs AC Milan. The Chelsea match was just the coming out party for Uefalona. That's why I don't rate that Pep team. They way they won the first CL was disgusting to the game

Our fans did a great job lifting the team in the return leg against PSG at the Etihad  so i don't think that will be a factor. But like I said hopefully our luck just continues then.

No I remember those semi's perfectly. Chelsea has always played Barcelona tough, for years they became familiar with each other, and so I wasn't surprised Chelsea made it thru. They were always a headache for Barca. They weren't the best team but they still won it.

But what does that Chelsea squad have to do with this City squad? City aren't familiar with Madrid, City don't delve out that typical English intimidating home crowd, they've choked and been star struck before with Barca. What the hell makes you believe City can pull a Chelsea 2012? Because they're the lone English team?

Experience is huge in situations like these, City don't even come close to having Chelsea's 2012 experience.

But Barca dominated both matches and it took a miracle for them not to score a couple goals to knock Chelsea out. I don't know if there's some place where you can still look up chances or shots on goal for those matches but Barca definitely had lots more than Chelsea.

I only mentioned Chelsea because you did. My main point is that City have plenty of players that could be on clubs like Barca, Real, and Bayern if not for that oil money enticing them to play at the Etihad. You're treating them like they're Leeds United, and are going to go out there asking Real's players for autographs and selfies.

I could see Jesus Navas or Raheem Sterling asking Ronaldo for a selfie halftime any day bruh, you couldn't?:nerd:

That's besides the point tho, of course City have world class players. But as a team from top to bottom, they lack experience. They've been shellshocked and choked just as recently as last year, so why would I give City the b benefit of the doubt? - maybe in a couple years, yea sure. But that effect and experience is real in the semi's man.

Chelsea new that they weren't gonna beat Barca buy out passing them. They also knew that Peps Barca team only played 1 style of football regardless ifit was working or not. If you watched that match again, yuou can see that Chelsea were basically allowing Barca to shot from distance or to attempt corners. They knew Barca wanted to play direct and they are to short/weak to try to play the ball in the air against Chelsea. As much as Barca "dominated" they lost the first leg 1-0, and lost tied second leg 2-2 against 10men even after being awarded a pk. Without Uefa refs they couldn't pull thugh

lets npt forget one thing, aside from when they won La Decima, Real have a history of screwing it up around in the knockout stages against lower teams

Yup especially against Lyon (for the Ligue 1 heads)...

But Real pushed thru that and overcame it - gained experience, fought some battles, and since then - they've have been good. Real have been in the Semi's now for like what, 5 straight years?

Which is exactly what City needs to do (they're sort of doing it now), they've been thru some growing pains but they're not even close to ready yet. They'll get it tho, they should win a CL trophy within the next 3-5 years.

But nah bro, not now.

I'm not saying Chelsea shouldn't have won or that the match didn't somewhat go according to their plan. But in my memory Barca created a lot of good chances they didn't take and all in all performed as well (some might even argue better) as Chelsea. To my delight, Chelsea basically did the same thing in the final against Bayern.

I remember those Lyon squads with Lisandro Lopez, Toulalan, and Michel Bastos :pimp:

I visited Paris at the time and bought a Lyon scarf. They dominated Ligue 1 before PSG came up on oil money.

Come on Trey Bantz Trey Bantz ,

You can't see Jesus Navas go up to Ronaldo and ask him "Porfavor ensename cruzar la pelota, no se. Mis cruzamentos nuncan van al Box..." (sorry if I spelt **** wrong )

Translation: "Ronaldo please teach me how to cross the ball, I don't know how"

I'm convinced if Jesus Navas could put in a good cross or finish he would be unstoppable dudes got pace and enough technical skill to beat a player and create space but once he gets that space he doesn't know what to do with it

I think this would be a great time for psk to chime in.

Villarreal are my "underdog team" I like to root for (and have been doing FIFA manager modes with since 2008  ) but I don't catch them often. They hung with Barca recently though and I believe with Atleti as well, drawing with both. They have the second best defense in la liga, with Bruno running it defensively in the midfield. So don't think think this is a la liga side with just a lot of flair that Klopp can counter attack against once they have lapses in possession game. I wouldn't say either side is a favorite though, since 'Pool is talented, knocked out BVB, and has the Klopp factor. If I had to pick one team it would be Villarreal though. But 'Pool has players that can bring individual brilliance imo and get them over.

Astute post. I'll add I'd consider the yellow sub's manager Marcelino in the top 20-25 managers in the world. His team has been pretty consistent the last 2 season in particular despite losing key players every year (Denis Cheryshev last year & Gabriel in January). I love how Marcelino's yellow subs are always attacking/counter attacking using the likes of Leo Baptistao, Cedric Bakambu, Denis Suarez, & Manu Trigueros... Soldado is even starting to play well consistently under Marcelino.

Bruno Soriano is a beast of a pivot. Homey has a knack for breaking up the oppositions play even before it starts. He's one of the best FKers in Europe too. If the opposition somehow gets past Bruno, they gotta contend with the likes of Mateo Musacchio & Victor Ruiz who anchor the yellow sub's D.

If Liverpool was more of an consistent team, I'd have them winning but with apologies to our boy Tommy, I don't see the Reds repeating that "heavy metal" performance.

With regards to Barca bowing out of the CL, c'est la vie... They achieved Super Saiyan form again last year. Getting to the quarter finals this campaign, still being in the league title race, & being in contention for the King's cup is still respectable.

Edit - Rooting for either Bayern or Atleti to win the CL.... Cholo really needs to stop playing so defensively though & unleash the hounds... He has one of the best back lines out there to protect his team if they attacked more aggressively in the final third... He's been too set on trying to protects leads & such...

 Navas

I think Bale putting pressure on City's back line will open up things for RM, I expect them to win.
