Ask any person anywhere on Earth who Michael Jordan is and you'll most likely get an answer almost instantly, ask them who Sachin Tendulkar is and you might need to wait a little longer

while I get your point, I think Michael Jordan transcends basketball, and is basically a world/pop icon. People who don't follow the sport will know his name. You could find places where no one watches or plays basketball, and they'll know Jordan's name from pop culture.

Btw, something interesting, Multichoice (Africa's largest satellite tv provider) only recently started covering NBA games and broadcasting across the continent.
in todays age, Ronaldo/ Messi names might have more recognition than lebron james

correct...

european countries show a lot of love towards basketball, even women.

same goes for Asian countries too
That's why for me NBA>NFL. Didn't grow up in an NFL town and I refuse to root for anything Seattle even if they are in the PNW. NBA could be as big as soccer in 20ish years. Imagine a Champions League between the US and Spain or something :pimp:

Not a chance basketball comes anywhere near soccer in any of our lifetimes.

Soccer is still growing at an exponential rate. Not just in America, but other massive countries like China, Pakistan, India.

Regions like the Middle East, the entire continent of Africa, much of Asia. In pretty much every developing and third world country soccer is still in its infant stages. Basketball won't even begin to close the gap any generation soon.

Like the olympics? You realize USA easily BTFO any international emcimpetitor right? European basketball is not on the same level as America's league. It would be a joke. Like the concacaf champions league.
No not like the Olympics. I said in the future so of course the US would dominate any country right now.

The Spanish league is as close as the NBA gets around the world. Club vs. Club just like the Champions League format. Top 4 NBA v Top 4 in Spain and trickles of other clubs around the world...Argentina? France? Australia?

Great talent around the world and the sport is still just growing. Easily the 2nd most popular sport in the world. USA has its share of under performing in Olympics/FIBA play too. Don't wanna go into further detail since this is a Futty thread, but in my lifetime, I would love to see the sport of Basketball flourish like Soccer worldwide.

no, just no.

Cricket is the second most watched sport in the world behind football.

I wouldn't put it past Tennis taking the 3rd spot.

Yea dude, USA really underpoforms man. 14 gold medals to the rest of the worlds 4 all together?

Yea man, really underperformed right there.

You clearly don't watch basketball or follow the US Men's team. Bronze in 04, Bronze in 06 FIBA, and a Gold Medal in 08 delivered by a one man Kobe show in the 4th quarter. Would of gotten Silver if it wasn't for Kobe.

The rest of the world is catching up, some of the most prevalent up and coming talent are from foreign countries. One thing the US will always have is athleticism and that's winning it so far. Spain and some European countries develop fundamental skills far better than the AAU teams in the States. You wouldn't know so I don't even know why I'm bothering. Carry on.

I find it hilarious that Manchester couldn't sign Pedro after trying to get him for weeks LMAO.

It makes it hilarious that some Manchester United fans seriously believe they're Real Madrid or something and sign any player they want. Haha wow.

Rugby> basketball

This.
Man U fans have been feeling themselves too much lately.
Yall got greedy and gassed without the merit.
Y'all's biggest signing is an unproven youngster.
And honestly the transfer season was busy for Man U but really wasn't that good.

Madrid had a better summer and didn't even splash like they normally do.

Cool stat...in the last 5 seasons only messi and Ronaldo have scored and assisted more goals in la Liga.

Is it unanimous that people think aguero would be an upgrade for Madrid as opposed to Benz? Cause I'm not so sure. He bullies Spanish defenders.

I'd love to see the source of the "soccer is growing at an exponential rate" statement.

Welcome to Pedro :pimp:

Bad news for Cuadrado and Wilian
I think the midfield will ether be:

Hazard Oscar Willian

Hazard Willian Pedro

Pedro Hazard Willian

Depending on if Jose actually takes Pedro seriously. Now with Cesc being a cardboard cutout on the pitch and due to my own personal beliefs I think we might actually be best if Oscar plays next to Matic. He's scrawny but he's tough for his size and always struck me more as a CM than a CAM. Jose gets his guys who track back, Pedro can flourish as the guy who makes timely runs behind defenders and everyone can play a position where they can thrive cause I'm sure there will still be times where either Cesc is playing as a 10 or deeper.

The source are the growing TV ratings and the growing exposure soccer is getting in those countries he listed smart ***. It's clear as day the effect it has had on America by the EPL TV ratings for the past two years. That many Americans would have never tuned in to watch EPL 5-10 years ago.

Idk how Man U dropped the ball on this deal for Pedro bu they really ****** up man. Should've closed this weeks ago. I don't even see him playing that much at Chelsea due to
Mou and his favorite players already there

interstingly enough, the countries that competed against the US in basketball don't even exist anymore. Still a 14 gold medal difference? lol.

Still doesn't make the second most popular sport in the world, FYI which is what this whole argument was about to begin with.

Too quick to jump at Cesc, imo. I watched the Swansea game he didn't looked bad as people said he looked against city. That was a ****** match for the whole team, specially Terry from what I'm seeing. I'd be more comfortable if Chelsea signed another RB because Ivanovic got rektd by Montero and apparently the same happened against city. Maybe use Cuadrado there :rolleyes

Hmm, I think the most plausible option is alternating Pedro and Willian. Oscar has looked good.

I'm guessing something like this.

Costa
Hazard-Oscar-Willian/Peter
Matic-Cesc
-Back 4-

If Chelsea manage to get stones then he'll be rotated in there as well, not too sure about that signing to be honest. Chelsea is desperate to get him and if they do bid 40mil pounds then Everton will surely take the bid, I think. It's late in the transfer window so idk.

They said the same thing about a young Portuguese kid a few years ago too...that turned out pretty well for United.
