River Plate can win both continental cups this season....not bad

Primera Division used to be only 20 teams and consisted of two annual tournaments named the Apertura and Clausura (literally translates to opening and closing). Each tournament was 19 games where everyone played each other once. If Boca Juniors played River Plate at home in the Apertura, they would face them away in the Clausura. Two tournaments meant that Argentina had two champions every year.

This year they decided to change the format where there is only one long tournament annually. Instead of just combining the Apertura and the Clausura and playing a 38 game tourney like most of the world does, AFA decided to automatically promote 10 teams from the Primera B Nacional (the 2nd tier league) and create a 30 team tournament where everyone plays each other once, in addition to a second match against your historic rival. So in this new format, Boca Juniors plays 29 games against every team in the league, plus a second match against eternal rival River Plate. Independiente plays their extra match against Racing Club, Rosario Central against Newell's Old Boys, San Lorenzo against Huracan, etc. Where it gets complicated is with clubs like Velez Sarsfield who don't really have a traditional derby.

We hated the change at first. Most of us just wanted AFA to go back to the 20 team, 38 match tournament that was in place before the Apertura-Clausura format. We didn't understand why they decided to extend the tournament by promoting 10 teams and increasing the size of the league as opposed to the size of the schedule. But football is religion in Argentina and everyone tuned into their televisions anyway, and the tournament was pretty damn entertaining (aside from the fact that Boca won).

Wow, has he even been playing well in Italy? Doesn't hurt to see though if he can revive himself in these next two friendlies, not that Germany necessarily needs it but a true striker or two on the squad isn't bad, if only King Lewa was German.

he's in turkey now at besiktas. 8 goals in 10 games so I guess it's worth the shot like you said. watching germany throughout the euro qualifiers the lack of a true striker has been hurting. hopefully he can come through

Reus and especially Muller would be more than enough as a striker, but Reus is injury prone and has a hamstring issue right now, and Muller is more valuable to them in the midfield since Mesut wasn't called up.

muller in midfield? he hasn't played MF with germany at all recently. gundogan, drax, schurrle, reus, schwein, kroos, khedira, bellarabi, kramer have handled the MF as well as gotze and ozil when healthy.

im interested to see how sane looks with the senior team on his first call up. I really like his game
